Cholera

Cholera is an infectious disease that causes severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated. It is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae.

Cholera was prevalent in the U.S. in the 1800s, before modern water and sewage treatment systems eliminated its spread by contaminated water. Only about 10 cases of cholera are reported each year in the U.S. and half of these are acquired abroad. Rarely, contaminated seafood has caused cholera outbreaks in the U.S. However, cholera outbreaks are still a serious problem in other parts of the world. The World Health Organization reports that there are 1.3 million to 4 million cases each year.

The disease is most common in places with poor sanitation, crowding, war, and famine. Common locations include parts of Africa, south Asia, and Latin America. If you are traveling to one of those areas, knowing the following cholera facts can help protect you and your family.

Cholera Causes
Vibrio cholerae, the bacterium that causes cholera, is usually found in food or water contaminated by f***s from a person with the infection. Common sources include:
Municipal water supplies
Ice made from municipal water
Foods and drinks sold by street vendors
Vegetables grown with water containing human wastes
Raw or undercooked fish and seafood caught in waters polluted with sewage
When a person consumes the contaminated food or water, the bacteria release a toxin in the intestines that produces severe diarrhea.
It is not likely you will catch cholera just from casual contact with an infected person.

WHAT ARE ONIONS

Onions are part of the allium family of vegetables which include garlic, scallions, leeks and chives. Besides adding flavor to dishes, they provide therapeutic and antibacterial properties that cleanse and detox our bodies.

ARE ONIONS GOOD FOR YOU

Yes! Onions are a powerful superfood! According to a study found in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, onions provide powerful benefits against certain types of cancer cells. Whether you eat onions raw or cooked, they offer tremendous health benefits by consuming them. Eating one small onion a day equals about a cup of chopped onion. You can add onion to soups, stews, salsas and salads.

BENEFITS OF ONIONS

Rich source of antioxidants
Rich source of sulfur (amino acids needed for protein synthesis)
They strengthen immunity
May help to lower cholesterol and blood pressure
Inhibits hardening of the arteries,
Enhances elasticity of blood vessels
Prevents certain types of cancer
May help to regulate blood sugar levels
Detoxifying
ANTIOXIDANT BENEFITS

Red onions contain a higher amount of antioxidants and flavonoids than the yellow or white onion, and they’re a rich source of quercetin. Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that may help fight chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer and it is beneficial for eliminating free radicals in the body. It may also prevent the release of histamine, making onions a natural antihistamine.

CANCER PREVENTION

Due to the high amount of antioxidant properties found in red onions compared to white or yellow, red onions provide stronger protection against certain types of cancer, such as stomach, colorectal, oral, laryngeal, esophageal and ovarian cancer. For the most benefits, it is recommended that we eat at least 3 onions each week (or half an onion a day). The quercetin abundant in red onions have been shown to reduce inflammation and is beneficial for both the prevention and treatment of cancer.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

Onions act as powerful antioxidants which stimulate immune responses and reduce inflammation in our bodies.

DETOXIFYING

Onions are a rich source of sulfur, which helps to facilitate the detoxification process in our bodies by removing toxins and heavy metals.

IMPROVES IMMUNITY

Onions are a rich source of both vitamin C and phytochemicals which helps to strengthen our immune systems. Vitamin C is an essential water-soluble vitamin that our bodies need to make collagen. Collagen is a type of protein that plays a role in wound healing and immunity support.

REGULATES BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

Onions are a rich source of biotin. Besides being good for healthy skin and hair, biotin has many positive impacts on our health, one of which is combatting symptoms associated with type 2 diabetes. A combination of biotin and chromium may help to improve regulating blood sugar levels and even decrease insulin resistance.

LOWERS CHOLESTEROL

Raw onion also promotes production of HDL, which is the good cholesterol that’s needed for optimal health, and reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

The sulfur found in onions acts as a natural blood thinner and it prevents blood platelets from clotting, which may help to lower blood pressure and the risk of heart attack or stroke. The powerful antioxidant Quercetin found in onions may also help to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke by preventing plaque buildup in our arteries.

There are many Health Benefits of Eating Onions such as anti-carcinogenic, antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant properties

WHICH ONION IS BEST FOR YOU

Red onions are superior to other types of onions! Generally yellow and white onions contain more fiber and a higher amount of sulfur, but red onions contain a higher amount of antioxidants (quercetin and anthocyanin) and cancer prevention properties. According to a 2017 found in Food Research International, red onions are far superior to other types in onions in killing cancer cells in humans due to the high content of antioxidants.

HOW TO COOK WITH ONIONS

A great way to add flavor to almost any dish is by adding onions. They can be sautéed, roasted, grilled or caramelized. They’re also great when added raw to sandwiches, salads and salsas. Mix chopped onion with celery and carrot to make a flavorful mirepoix as a base for soup (which is a staple in my house). And during the summer months, they’re a popular addition to grilled chicken burgers and kebabs.

HOW TO CUT AN ONION

The most abundant part of the onion containing antioxidant flavonoids is in the outer most layers of the onion. So try not to over peel.

Cut the onion in half from root to root.
Cut about half an inch off the top of onion discarding the root
Peel off the papery layers and discard
Slice the onion vertically
Take one half and lay it flat on a cutting surface
Slice and chop horizontally
HOW TO CHOP AN ONION WITHOUT CRYING

Slice the onion in half leaving the roots intact
Peel the thin papery layers away
Slice the onion vertically in rounds until you near the root
Discard the root
Chop the rounds
TAKE THE BITE OUT OF RAW ONIONS

If you’re eating your onion raw, here’s a little tip you can use to take the bite out of raw onions

Soak sliced or chopped onions in a bowl of chilled water for up to 10 minutes
Drain well and pat dry
Add to your dish
TYPES OF ONIONS

YELLOW ONIONS

Yellow onions are probably the most commonly used onion. They’re great grilled or simmered in soups and stews.

WHITE ONIONS

White onions have a slightly more sharp flavor than the yellow version. They are a little more tender with a thinner skin. They’re also great simmered in soups and stews and added to a salsa.

SWEET ONIONS

These are my favorite!! I love the flavor of sweet onions. Maui onions!! Either Walla Walla or Vidalia are the most common kinds of sweet onions. These onions have a little less of a bite to them than the yellow or white onion, and they taste a little on the sweet side.

RED ONIONS

Red onions are similar to the rustic yellow onion. They’re great added to salads and salsas. I always soak my slices of red onion in a bowl of water for about 10 minutes before serving. It mellows the flavor tremendously.

GREEN ONIONS (ALSO KNOWN AS SCALLIONS)

Green onions are typically added to salads, salsas and stir-fried dishes.

SHALLOTS

Shallots are typically added to salads and vinaigrettes. They’re also delicious when roasted (whole in their skins like garlic), or caramelized or sautéed slowly on low heat.

Stomach ulcers (gastric ulcers) are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach.
Ulcers can also occur in part of the intestine just beyond the stomach.
These are called duodenal ulcerssystem
mach and duodenal ulcers are sometimes called peptic ulcers.
Symptoms of stomach ulcers
Although the most common symptom of a stomach ulcer is a burning or gnawing pain in the centre of the abdomen (tummy)
Not all stomach ulcers are painful.

Some people experience:
indigestion
heartburn
nausea (feeling sick)
you're vomiting blood
– the blood can appear bright red or have a dark brown, grainy appearance like coffee grounds
you're passing dark, sticky, tar-like stools
you feel a sudden, sharp pain in your tummy that gets steadily worse
What causes stomach ulcers?
Stomach ulcers occur when the layer protecting the stomach lining from stomach acid breaks down. This allows the stomach lining to become damaged.
This is usually caused by:
an infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) bacteria
taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or aspirin
– particularly if they're taken for a long time or at high doses
There's little evidence that stress or certain foods causes stomach ulcers.
Treating stomach ulcers
You'll be treated using antibiotics if your ulcer was caused by a H. pylori infection.
This kills the bacteria and should prevent the ulcer coming back.
You'll be treated using a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) if your ulcer was caused by NSAIDs.
Your doctor will prescribe these and discuss whether you should keep using NSAIDs. Alternative medication to NSAIDs, such as paracetamol, may be recommended.
Most stomach ulcers take a few months to heal after treatment. However, stomach ulcers can come back after treatment, although this is less likely to happen if the underlying cause is addressed.
Complications
Complications are rare but can be very serious and potentially life-threatening.
The main complications include:
bleeding at the site of the ulcer
the stomach lining at the site of the ulcer splits open – known as perforation
the ulcer blocks the movement of food through the digestive system
– known as gastric obstruction

Health Benefit of Eating Cucumber
It's high in beneficial nutrients, as well as certain plant compounds and antioxidants that may help treat and even prevent some conditions.
Also, cucumbers are low in calories and contain a good amount of water and soluble fiber, making them ideal for promoting hydration and aiding in weight loss.

It's High in Nutrients
Cucumbers are low in calories but high in many important vitamins and minerals.
One 11-ounce (300-gram) unpeeled, raw cucumber contains the following (1):
Calories: 45
Total fat: 0 grams
Carbs: 11 grams
Protein: 2 grams
Fiber: 2 grams
Vitamin C: 14% of the RDI
Vitamin K: 62% of the RDI
Magnesium: 10% of the RDI
Potassium: 13% of the RDI
Manganese: 12% of the RDI
Although, the typical serving size is about one-third of a cucumber, so eating a standard portion would provide about one-third of the nutrients above.
Additionally, cucumbers have a high water content. In fact, cucumbers are made up of about 96% water
*To maximize their nutrient content, cucumbers should be eaten unpeeled. Peeling them reduces the amount of fiber, as well as certain vitamins and minerals

What is a Migraine Headache?
A migraine is a powerful headache that often happens with nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. Migraines can last from 4 hours to 3 days, and sometimes longer.
The American Migraine Foundation estimates that more than 36 million Americans get them, women 3 times more often than men. Most people start having migraine headaches between ages 10 and 40. But many women find that their migraines improve or disappear after age 50. They generally last between 4 and 72 hours.

What Causes Migraine Headaches?
Migraine headaches are a symptom of an overall condition known as migraine. Doctors don’t know the exact cause of migraine headaches, although they seem to be related to changes in the brain as well as to genes that run in families. You can even inherit the triggers that give you migraine headaches, like fatigue, bright lights, weather changes, and others.

A stroke occurs when part of the brain loses its blood supply and stops working. This causes the part of the body that the injured brain controls to stop working.A stroke also is called a cerebrovascular accident, CVA, or "brain attack."
The types of strokes include:
Ischemic stroke (part of the brain loses blood flow)
Hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding occurs within the brain)Transient ischemic attack, TIA, or mini-stroke (The stroke symptoms resolve within minutes, but may take up to 24 hours on their own without treatment. This is a warning sign that a stroke may occur in the near future.)A stroke is a medical emergency. The affected individual, family, friends, or bystanders need to call 9-1-1 (activate EMS) to access emergency care. From onset of symptoms, there is only a 3 to 4 1/2 hour window to use clot-busting drugs (thrombolytics) to try to restore blood supply to the affected part of the brain.
Remember FAST if you think someone might be having a stroke:
Face drooping
Arm weakness
Speech difficulty
Time to call 9-1-1
Causes of strokes include ischemia (loss of blood supply) or hemorrhage (bleeding) in the brain.
People at risk for stroke include those who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and those who smoke. People with heart rhythm disturbances, especially atrial fibrillation are also at risk.Stroke is diagnosed by the patient's symptoms, history, and blood and imaging tests.
Depending on the situation, including the patient’s neurologic examination and severity of stroke, mechanical thrombectomy to remove a blood clot within a brain artery may occur up to 24 hours after onset of symptoms. This procedure is not available at all hospitals and not appropriate for all stroke patients. You can prevent stroke by quitting smoking, controlling blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet, and exercising on a regular basis. The prognosis and recovery for a person that has suffered a stroke depends upon the location of the injury to the brain.

EAT FRUITS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH

This will open your eyes ! Read to the end and then send it on to all on your e-list. I just did !

EATING FRUIT

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting them and just popping them into our mouths.

It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know HOW and WHEN to eat fruits.

What is the correct way of eating fruits?

IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS!

FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH!

If you eat fruits on an EMPTY STOMACH , it will play a major role in detoxifying your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.

FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD

Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit.

The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing because of the bread taken before the fruit.

In the meantime, the whole meal of bread & fruit rots and ferments, and turns to acid.

The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals !

You have heard people complaining that when they eat watermelon, they burp. When they eat durian the stomach bloats up. When they eat a banana, they feel like running to the toilet, etc.. etc..

Actually all this will not arise if they eat the fruit on an empty stomach.

The fruit mixes with the putrefying of other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat !

Greying hair, loss of hair, balding, nervous outbursts and dark circles under the eyes will NOT occur if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon being acidic and causing hyperacidity because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did a research on this.

If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the SECRET of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.

When you need to drink fruit juice, drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans, packs or bottles.

Don't even drink juice that has been heated up.

Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all.
You only get its taste.

Cooking destroys all their vitamins.

But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking its juice.

If you should drink the fresh fruit juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it.

You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse or detoxify your body.

Just eat fruits and drink fresh fruit juice for 3 days.

And you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look !

KIWI
Tiny but mighty. This is a good source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin E & fiber. Its vitamin C content is twice that of an orange.

APPLE
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Although an apple has low vitamin C content, it has antioxidants & flavonoids which enhance the activity of vitamin C thereby helping to lower the risks of colon cancer, heart attack and stroke.

STRAWBERRY
Protective Fruit. Strawberries have the highest total antioxidant power among major fruits and protect the body from cancer-causing, blood vessel-clogging free radicals.

ORANGE
The sweetest medicine. Taking 2-4 oranges a day may help keep colds away, lower cholesterol, prevent and dissolve kidney stones as well as lessen the risk of colon cancer.

WATERMELON
Coolest thirst quencher. Composed of 92% water, it is also packed with a mega dose of glutathione, which helps boost our immune system.

It id also a key source of lycopene, the cancer fighting oxidant.
Other nutrients found in watermelon are Vitamin C & Potassium.

GUAVA and PAPAYA
Top awardees for vitamin C. They are the clear winners for their high vitamin C content.

Guava is also rich in fiber, which helps prevent constipation.

Papaya is rich in carotene, which is good for your eyes.

Drinking COLD water or drinks after a meal = CANCER

Those who like to drink cold water or cold drinks, this article is for you.

Cold water or drinks solidify the oily stuff that you have just eaten.

It will slow down digestion.

Once this sludge reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestines faster than the solid food.

It will line the intestines.

Very soon, this will turn into FATS and lead to CANCER !

It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the longer we will live and with quality of life.

A cardiologist said, "If everyone who gets this message shares it to other people, he can be sure that he will save at least one life."

So, lets do it!
