Agree with every word of the Deputy Grand Chiefs letter. I would only add a suggestion that the city could provide a large designated space to build teepees, as was done in Manitoba.
A teepee village would be safer and much warmer than people living in tents.

“Yet less than a year later, this event occurs. What you have is an officer with very little service and a track record of not taking the job seriously,” Walbourne said.
“It is for those reasons the service does not believe Const. Haase is capable of rehabilitation. I think the evidence is clear there is a likelihood of recurrence.”

"Kill the Indian, Save the Man... Fail"
"... I felt the need to paint an image that reflected this era. I chose a school photo of the Carlisle Indian Boarding School... I decided to gradually add color to the faces and ultimately finish with contemporary Native children of today, smiling and proud. Our culture survived. Our children are now being taught the culture and language, and can express their identity without fear of punishment. This painting is a reminder to our own people of the struggles of our ancestors and a reminder to others to never do this to any group of people ever again."

Tonight I attended the first of five lectures that Tanya Talaga will give telling a story that starts out in Thunder Bay, but I am sure will grow to include the story of all Indigenous people. I cannot wait to hear the rest.
Her message was clear, change starts with our youth.
This resonated with me, as it is one of the important reasons I am running. It reaffirmed for me that we MUST be teaching the real history of the many Indigenous people of this land.
How can our children have empathy for their peers, if they do not understand what they as a culture and people have experienced?
I promise to work to include Indigenous teachings and content in our local curriculum. I do not think I will have problems finding partners to help bring this promise to fruition.
