Congrats to my violin students Henrik and Declan for their acceptance into Junior SEMSBA! This was Declanโs first audition and he worked HARD for this much-deserved win. And Henrik nabbed the assistant principal second spot with some fine playing and excellent scores. Bravo, gentlemen! ๐๐๐
Congratulations to my violin students Henrik, Liv, and Amelia for their acceptance into Junior District! This was a very competitive year and I canโt wait to hear the concert. Bravo to everyone! ๐
Congrats to my viola student, Sam, who not only made senior District, but also earned the principal viola spot as well as an All-state recommendation. Bravo, Sam! ๐ถ๐ป ๐

Bass-ically, the end of summer ...
Hi friends! At this time of year I get lots of inquiries about violin lessons for kids so I thought Iโd offer some advice for those of you who are looking for private lessons (on any instrument or voice) for your child.
1. Ask questions! Some questions you may want to consider asking a teacher are: Do you hold a degree in music or did you study music at a university level? Have you completed any teacher training courses? Do you use a particular method when you teach? What age student are you comfortable teaching? What are your expectations for the parents of the student? What are your expectations of both the student and parent outside of lessons? How long have you been teaching? Where have you taught in the past? If you are a new teacher do you have a mentor you can turn to for guidance?
2. Take a trial lesson. Most teachers offer a trial to make sure they are a good fit for your student.
3. Talk to other families/students who work with that teacher. Ask for referrals.
I hope that is helpful! Music teachers, feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.
Happy music-making ๐ถ๐ป๐ธ
Congrats to my mandolin student (and daughter) Klara, on placing second on solo mandolin at the Mid-Atlantic Fleadh! This earns her a spot competing at the Fleadh Cheoil in Mulingar, Ireland in August ๐ฎ๐ช ๐ถโ๏ธ
Congrats to all of the students who performed at todayโs Winter Recital! What a nice mix of violin, viola, mandolin, and fiddle repertoire. Next time Iโll remember to get a group pic before 1/2 the students leave ๐คฆโโ๏ธ Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season. ๐ถ โค๏ธ ๐ป
Congrats to my student, Henrik, for qualifying for the Southeastern Massachusetts Junior District Orchestra! Although heโs only 12, Henrik has been playing the violin for 8 years! Heโs one of my hardest working students and Iโm so pleased to see that his hard work has paid off.
