Love working with kids? Miss your annoying little brother at home? Need an extra unit? Come check out Sage Mentorship, the largest 1-on-1 mentoring program at Cal. We work with 10 elementary schools in Berkeley and Oakland, where mentors can pick their own hours to tutor and mentor.

Want to be a better mentor? Interested in understanding educational disparities your mentee may face? The Sage Mentorship DeCal is a great opportunity to improve your impact on your mentees as a mentor. We will be going over deeper issues that many of our students face such as educational inequality, social development, and self-esteem. Additionally, you will earn ONE UNIT for your time. Monday, September 9th in Hearst Field Annex, Room A1 from 8-9 PM
Tuesday, September 10th in Hearst Field Annex, Room A1 from 8-9 PM
Attendance at one info-session is mandatory for new and returning mentors!
Additionally, there will be a training for all new mentors on Saturday, September 14th and Sunday, September 15th from 12-4 pm in Hearst Field Annex, Room A1. Attendance at one of the trainings for new mentors is mandatory, so please put it in your calendars!

Do you have experience in tech/CS/EECS/web design? Are you looking for a leadership position in your Cal community? The Sage Mentorship Project is looking for a Director of Technology to join our Executive Board.
Responsibilities would include revamping our website and working on the Sage App, an application that allows Sage mentors to log mentoring hours throughout the week. The app is mostly done and just needs some finishing touches.

We have great news for all of you!! We will be holding our rescheduled info session TOMORROW from 7-9pm in Hearst Field Annex, A1. You will receive information about becoming a mentor and taking Sage as a Decal at the info session. Thank you so much for you patience and we hope to see you there if you weren't able to make it out to our Tuesday Info Session! If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
As you may be aware, we decided to suspend the 2nd Sage Info Session tonight due to the concerns for the safety of you all amidst the protest that took place in front of the MLK Student Union. Your safety and well-being are always our number one priority and I pray that everyone is safe tonight.
For returning mentors and prospective mentors who were not able to make it to last night's info session, we are actively working to find a venue so that we can hold another info session asap. Here is what we are working with as of this moment.
We are currently looking for a venue to hold our 2nd info session either Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Obviously Thursday or Friday would be ideal as to avoid any late fee for those hoping to do Sage for units but as of this moment, the most likely scenario looks like Saturday. We have put in a reservation at various locations and I will update you all as soon as we find a venue.
As far as the add/drop deadline without a fee this Friday, we are currently reaching out to the university to see if we can be granted special extension for the deadline due to this unforeseen consequence. From my experience, they are usually very accommodating. We will keep you updated when we get a definite response.
One potential idea we are thinking about is releasing the CCN Thursday night to everyone so that mentors can sign up for the decal without having to pay the add/drop fee. However, the caveat is that we will be manually approving you for the course and will only do so if you show up to our make-up info session.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you all, but we want you all to know that we are doing everything we can to make sure that you guys are all registered as a Sage mentor without having to pay fees.
I realize that this setback may deter you all from joining us this semester, but think about what just happened and how the kids in our community are influenced by these kinds of events on the media. Now, more than ever, we need you guys all to step up as Sage mentors to show our next generation that compassion trumps all and that violence is never the answer.
