Mdu Masilela, also called The Godfather or Chomi Yabana, is a South African musician who specializes in the Kwaito music genre. He is best known for his work as one of the pioneers of Kwaito music together with the likes of Boom Shaka, Trompies, and Mandoza back in the 1990s. You may also know him from the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award he won at the South Africa Music Awards.
Early Life ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ
Growing up in the streets of Soweto, Mdu used to play around with his grandmotherโs piano because of his love for music. In school, he created a number of music groups until he completed his matric. After school, he formed the group MM Deluxe with the fellow artist Mandla โSpikiriโ Mofokeng in 1988. Two years later, in 1990, he released his debut album called LA Beat. Currently, he lives in his upmarket house at Morningside near Sandton.

Since releasing his debut album, Mduduzi has been actively involved in the music scene in various capacities, not just as a singer. He has also been known to compose as well as being a bassist and keyboardist. Mdu has also been instrumental in giving opportunities to upcoming musicians such as Sharon Dee and MaWillies.
