Pototato harvest time! Potatos are super easy to grow and they actually don’t take up much space for the amount of food they produce! I had these guys growing in a small section of my front yard. I highly recommend trying your hand at potatos, even if you’re a beginner gardener!

If you haven’t already done it, now is a good time to give your tomatos some well balanced fertilizer!

Strawberry season is in full swing! I use my strawberry plants as a decorative border plant around my flowers and other beds and we’ve had 20lbs of strawberries so far! You don’t need a lot of space to grow food! Just be creative!

If you’re interesting I trying your hand at growing your own veggies, the zuchinni is great plant to start with! It grows super fast, starts producing early, and one plant produces a lot of zuchinni! Did you know that a zuchinni plant produces a male and genial flower and you can insure zuchinni’s by using a q-tip to move the pollen from the male flower to the female flower. On the left is a female flower. On the right is the male. The female flower looks like a mini zuchinni.

Hey friends,

I’ve been fielding some strawberry questions lately since that is what is growing right now! If you just planted your strawberries this year then the official line is, pick off all the flowers so your plant doesn’t make berries it’s first year. Your plant will then put all its energy into growing roots and produce a bigger plant and more strawberries next year. But between you and me, I didn’t do that and this year those plants have produced 15lbs of strawberries from about 30 plants this year so far!

This is snail and slug damage. You can control them by laying down some Sluggo snail bait. It’s safe to have around dogs and works a charm!

Hello friends! I’ve been growing vegetables in my backyard for years, but a year ago I turned my front yard into a beautiful flower and vegetable garden! Last year I produced hundreds of pounds of food in my front yard! With the current pandemic people are looking to increase their food security and turning your yard into a vegetable garden can offer that. I’ve been helping a lot of people start veggie gardens in their front and back yards of late and I’ve had a lot of great questions and have learned a lot myself while helping others. I thought I would start a page where I can answer questions and others can learn from our shared experience. Additionally, it’s good for the soul and the earth. No matter how small you think your yard is, you can grow food!
