In the UK, 38.7% of all lettuce ends up in the bin, along with 25.5% of every melon, and the average UK family bins a whopping 12 weeksโ€™ worth of groceries every year; thatโ€™s almost ยฃ60 worth of food per month.
This is a problem because most wasted food in the UK ends up in landfill, which in turn adds to the problem of greenhouse gas emissions and, therefore, climate change.
There is also the huge issue of global hunger; around 1 billion ๐Ÿ˜ฎ people worldwide are going hungry ๐Ÿ˜”.

Do you know of any local or UK-wide schemes for tackling food waste? Let us know in the comments โ€“ letโ€™s share our knowledge.

Did you know that in England, it is estimated that annually 1.8 billion plastic-stemmed cotton buds are used and an estimated 10% of it are flushed down toilets and can end up in waterways and oceans.
With the proposed ban, I believe plastic Cotton buds won't be missed because of the diversity in its production from bamboo, to wood and even paper types of cotton buds.

Which of these alternatives to Plastic cotton buds is your favorite??? Mine is the wooden.

Note:- Do not flush cotton buds of any kind.

Water needs to be conserved as a lot of energy is required to pump water into our homes. Conserving water reduces the amount of energy that is needed to filter it.

Few ways to conserve water are โ€“

Take short showers (Install water-efficient taps and showers to minimise heating water โ€“ this will save you money on your water and energy bills, as well as decreasing your carbon footprint),

Keep the running tap close while you brush your teeth,

Recycle water in your home: example:- collect rainwater in a rain barrel to water your lawn,

And
Use water-saving appliances like dishwasher and washing machine with full loads and on an eco-setting wherever possible.

To prevent over-ripening, plastic wrap around the stems that hold your banana bunch together. Ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process, is released from the stems. So when you cover them, it slows the gas from emitting and keeps your bananas fresher longer.

There are days I wonder if bringing in my big grocery bag to the store would make any difference so some times I do not bother. On days I decide to go with my own bag I realized I have less trash in the bin because the size of my bag limits what I can carry hence, I buy only what I need. Also, I do not have to disturb myself about the extra plastic bags I have to add to the collections I have at home.
It may be a bit tiring, but I believe it is worth it!

During the first months of life, an infantโ€™s brain absorbs sounds. By the end of that first year, the brain starts to prioritize, building greater sensitivity to familiar sounds and less ability to distinguish unfamiliar sounds. Based on phonetic perception and brain development research, we believe that regular exposure to a variety of musical sounds is critical during the first year of life.
Research shows this enrichment during infancy development is particularly powerful.

Every litter a bit hurts was an article written by a New York copywriter in 1963 about the importance of proper waste disposal, 57 years later this is still an issue ๐Ÿ˜”.

Littering is the act of improperly disposing of any kind of waste material, littering in the United Kingdom is an especially significant problem. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) revealed that its annual beach litter report has shown a rising trend in garbage on United Kingdom shores over 20 years...

Cleaning up trash is important, but it would be better to dispose of it properly in the first place.

Do you know where your garbage goes? After it leaves your homes? Most people donโ€™t give it another thought; out of sight, out of mind. But our daily habit of throwing things away has a price, especially when there is no โ€œawayโ€.
Once waste disappears, it is not meant to reappear but this is not the case.
