This afternoon I ended up dipping back into an old fav book of mine, 'This is Your Brain on Birth Control' by Sarah Hill. I was blown away by what I (re)read!! Here's my abbreviated version...
Oxytocin is a hormone that plays a super-indispensable role in regulating bonding and social interactions. When it's released, it tells your brain that the person you are with - whether it's your best friend or your romantic partner - is someone special you love and cherish.
Oxytocin makes your brain's reward centers light up like a Christmas tree to your romantic partner's face, helping reinforce your brains belief that he's the number one guy for you.
It separates your partner from every other man in the world and earmarks him as someone who is different and special.
Unless you're on the birth control pill.
Pill-taking women don't experience increased reward centers of their brain, they don't see their partners face any differently then a strangers face. The normal biological process that goes on in response to oxytocin to help label your partner as someone special doesn't happen on the pill.
There is good reason to believe that this also has the effect of messing with s**x and another potential culprit in the low libido side effect.
OMG! ๐ง that's wild.
It also got me thinking about women that go on birth control straight after they have a baby and if there would be any impact in the bonding process here too?

When I reflected on what I would share, it was tricky, but of course I found things.
And creating this post felt liberating and freeing, knowing that I don't have to hide these parts of me, because I am just bloody human, doing my best, as I am sure you are too!

This app is so fricken awesome - here is why
1. You're the creator of your reality
You get to create your unique chart and decide exactly what you want to chart. From your body signs e.g. Body Basal Temperature (BBT), Cervical Fluids (you definitely want to chart this if you are using FAM to avoid pregnancy), Cervical Position and LH Rise.
You can also chart the moon, your energy levels, mood, diet, supplements, physical activity and much more.
2. Keeping the POWER in YOUR hands - No algorithms, predictions, or interpretations
Because your body is NOT an algorithm or a machine, your fertility is way more complex than that. The other fertility apps that are predicting your ovulation window are kinda scary, no?
Obviously it depends on your reason for using the app, but if you want to avoid pregnancy, then best to avoid predictive apps.
No interpretations or predictions mean, your App wonโt tell you when you are fertile, or when you have ovulated.
Yes, that does mean that you need to understand your body signs but learning about them is the best way to build trust in your body and in the Fertility Awareness Method.
3. Your body is your business
The last reason I'm Fan-Girling over this App is because the not-for-profit organization doesnโt have access to your data!! Only you can see it.
This is amazing, it means they wonโt sell it or accidentally leak it (like some of the big FEM Tech Apps have done in the past!).

For +15 years, I was stuck in a cycle of restrict my food and calories > exercise a lot > break down & binge eat > feel guilty & full of self hatred.
Repeat Cycle.
Through the practice of yoga, it got better. I was kinder and more gentle with myself. The cycles would occur less often.
But I still over ate and had binge outs resulting in โtrying to be good this weekโ mentality.
It wasnโt until 3 years ago, when I immersed myself in a 3-month Somatic training and learnt HOW to sit with my emotions (sensations) that I noticed I stopped over and then under eating as a coping mechanism. And as a consequence, I lost +10 unnecessary kilos.
Learning how to lean in and be with those uncomfortable feelings (sensations) and allowing them to move through the body, through sound, touch and movement, was the key to accessing freedom from within.
I can now catch when emotions arise, choose to be with them and process the emotions much easier and quicker than ever before.
โก๏ธ meaning less suffering, less coping mechanisms and less zoning-out of life.
โก๏ธ and more enjoying life from my authentic alignment, and feeling freedom from within!
I can assure you, over eating wasnโt my only coping mechanism, there were plenty more (eg smoking w**d, drinking, binge exercising) but they also fell away!
