This week's photo is an example of a rail-less mounting system. Traditional mounting systems use two aluminum rails that the modules sit on top of and are secured with mounting clips. A rail-less mounting system uses the module's frame as the structural component of the racking system. Most rail-less systems use mounting brackets that attach to the roof's structure and to the module's frame to secure the module to the building. They also use a bracket that bridges the gap between two modules.

In this photo, the silver brackets seen near the ridge attach to the structure of the building and clip to the module frame. The black bars at the junction between two modules connect the modules for electrical bonding and structural integrity.

Another win we'd like to point out on this installation is the well-flashed conduit clips. The installer cut out a shingle section so they could slip the flashing underneath two courses of shingles. This technique will prevent water from getting behind the flashing, which could cause leaks.

We should point out that this installation does not comply with setback requirements enforced in some jurisdictions. The location this array was installed does not use those codes, so setbacks were not required.
