our latest album 'always down' has been out for about 1,5 months now and i'm still so very happy with it 🙃 what are your favourite songs from the album? i'm curious to know!

the album was recorded with a different line-up than the one on the photograph (shot by ) but i liked the photograph so yes.

new single 'CITY' is released now!

'City' started out as a small hushed acoustic song, written at a kitchen table during a particularly dreary breakfast on a particularly dreary morning. i blurted it out faster than i could finish my peanut butter sandwiches and in less than 20 minutes it was done, words and chords and all.

it bloomed when we started playing it with the band later on. 'City' always felt like a special moment during our set, and even when i had trouble feeling comfortable playing live and being on a stage, this song often got me out of my head for a bit.

this song means a lot to me and i can't wait to hear what you think of it.

After ten years of playing with different versions of The Phantoms as my live band, I have decided to call it quits. This was an extremely difficult decision to make and it has nothing to do with my bandmembers: I am very grateful to have played with such sweet and talented people and they are actually the factor that made this decision such a terribly hard one.

The reason for this decision is that for a while now I have lost the joy I used to feel doing shows. It takes up way more energy than it gives. Writing and recording in the studio has always been the situation I'm most comfortable in, and I miss the freedom of working on my own like that, not having to worry about if the song will suit the band, if we'll be able to play it live, etc etc. I just want to make music, record and release stuff. I haven't been nearly as productive as I could have been these last few years, and I'm looking forward to just focus on that. Making crazy s**t.

Thank you, my Phantoms Guus, Tessa and Twan for the time and effort you put in, and for your understanding and your support.
And thank you for reading this, and hopefully sticking with me. Something to look forward to:
The last album with The Phantoms will be released very shortly.

Of course there's the possibility this may change in the future, that I might want to play with a band again. But for now I'll just enjoy this wave of relief and see where it will take me.

yesterday my 12th album, 'Where's The Fire?', was released. thank you so much for listening and sending kind messages and sharing the album.
i'd like to specifically mention my gf, for her contributions to this album. i just love her voice and working together on something like this means the world to me.
(the photograph on display was also made by her, as was the artwork).

if you haven't listened yet, please do! this album feels like a pretty big deal to me and i'm very happy with how it turned out.

the 12th jellephant album ‘WHERE’S THE FIRE?’ is now released!

first of all, thank you:
-my girlfriend Tessa van Raalte, for singing on this album. she also made the photograph i used as artwork for this release. it’s part of her series called ‘unwaning body’ and it is beautiful.

i started recording this album in march ’22. after the last album, which as recorded with the band (and our live album after that), i wanted to record something by myself again and this is the result. i hope you like it.
