2023, SOUTH-SOUTH PRESIDENCY WILL UNITE NIGERIA FOR GOOD.

Stephen Oyesinga
20/09/2021

As the 2023, General Election draws closer, key Political Actors have started warming up for the highest office in the country, some desperately ,to advance their interests of producing the next president of Nigeria.

Prominent amongst them are South West, South-South and South-East. The North is also making subtle moves of retaining the presidency , come 2023.

Taking a cursory look at the leadership trend of the counyry is compelling.

In 1999, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from South West was elected as President of Nigeria. He was re-elected in 2003, to continue in office till 2007, without interruption, making it eight years in accordance with the 1999, Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended before handing over to Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'adu in 2007 who unfortunately died after serving for only over two years. May God grant his soul eternal repose. Goodluck Jonathan was elected and did only four years and was denied second term inspite of his impressive governance style and economic prosperity.

The only region whose leadership tenure as president of Nigeria being truncated is therefore that of the South-South in 2015, denying the region to also benefit from the constitutional provision of a second term to make eight years in office. Therefore, it would be fair and equitably justifiable for the South-South Region to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023, to balance the political equation in line with the constitution of our dear country.

We all know that, a divergent and multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria needs a man of peaceful disposition, humble, cultured, loving and loyal to Nigeria and Nigerians.

Infact, we need a unifier to bridge the gap between cultural and religious sentiments.

It is a known fact that, the South-South is committed to the unity, stability and overall interest of Nigeria.

We should therefore do the needful. Consequently,it is apt to appeal to the South West, South East and North to drop their ambitions and support the South-South region to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023, to complete her eight years which the Constitution graciously gives to every Nigerian and region

In as much as it is an inalienable right and the exclusive preserve of every Nigerian and region to contest for the office of the president of Nigeria, we must also not jettison fairness, equity and justice as the pathway to peaceful coexistence in all our actions.

It is my conviction that, a South-South president in 2023, would undoubtedly douse the agitations currently going on in some parts of the country .

When you see something say it. Consequently it has become imparative to commend the efforts of President Buhari in improvising the tempo on where president GoodLuck Jonathan stopped in the areas of railway and power. The completion of the forensic audit on the NDDC is a positive step which now warrants the inauguration of the board to facilitate the development of the Niger Delta Area.

A stitch in time saves nine.

BAYELSA STATE AND LESDERSHIP PROBLEMS

Nigeria would have been a better place if our political leaders have the interest of the masses. But a very few of our leaders have human sympathy and feelings for those who voted for them.

Just tell me why almost all the leaders especially the governors steal the resources of the people instead of using it to develop the infrastructure of the state.

Yenagoa is the worst state capital that I have ever seen in Nigeria.

All roads have been left to decay, nothing is working here. Even the reconstruction works going on in few streets are all manual. The workers are using shovels and work under primitive conditions.

This is not how cities are developed, but let us pray for Diri to have a change of tactics and empower the youths especially in long lasting schemes that will make for future growth.

As for the past 2 Governors of Rivers state, Honourable Rotomi Amaechi and Wike, I raise my hands for them. Right here in a nearby state, they have over the years transformed the state into a modern city.

When will God give us God-fearing leaders like these two gentlemen in Bayelsa State?

I pray he does so and very fast too before the future of the youths and the elderly ones continue to degenerate more and more.

My father used to inform me when was in the diaspora that from the time of Alamieyeseigha to Sylva, pensioners were the first to be paid as senior citizens who served their father’s land during the useful and vigorous periods of their lives, infect, he sends me money as early as 21st-25th almost every month because those governors had respect for age, but from the time of former Governor Dickson the pensioners started to experience punishment from his and sometimes, it was reported that for protesting that their legitimate dues are paid, thugs were hire to beat up our aged parents.

As if that was not enough, the former Governor arbitrarily reduce as much as 1/4 if over 3000 pensioners in the state and now our parents who were managing with their pensions have been reduced to beggars as their take home is nothing to write home about.

This is one thing Diri should do to readjust this injustice done to our senior citizens. He should be bold to do that before his name too will be counted among those governors who hate the aged and has place them under severe hardship for years now.

Those who don’t have respect for age has nothing to enjoy during their old age as old age is a consequence and no Mather the wealth you amass through the sweat of the citizens, age will not be easy for such people.

Let me purse and see how the people of Bayelsa state will react.

I know that some paid Data boys and girls will abuse me. But ai don’t mind that if ai am talking about what my aged parents are going through because they have no one to speak for them. Attack me and zi will say thank you for attacking me.

But remember that if you do not have aged parents, you may have uncles, aunties and even yourself, your old age is a surety.

Thanks for reading this piece which may seem boring.

BAYELSA NEEDS A GOOD LEADER TO SALVAGE IT...BAYELSA IN HEAVY DEBT BURDEN

STATES’ DEBT BURDEN RISES TO OVER N3.342 TRILLION-NEITI.
The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) says that the debt burden of the thirty six states of the federation has risen to over N3.342 Trillion as at 2016.
Lagos, Delta, Osun and Akwa Ibom topped the debt chart with a total debt profile of N1.262 trillion representing about 38% of debts owed by the 36 States of the Federation.
The break down shows that Lagos was indebted to the tune of N603.25 billion, Delta owes N331.95 billion, Osun and Akwa Ibom are indebted to the tune of N165.91 billion and N161.23 billion respectively, as at 2016.
This information was contained in the third edition of NEITI Quarterly Review, a researched publication of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative which focused on Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursements in 2016.
The publication with facts and data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, FAAC and Debt Management Office, is consistent with the mandate of NEITI on monitoring of fiscal allocation and statutory disbursement of revenues due to the three tiers of government.
NEITI’s legitimate interest in the debt profiles, revenue generation and management in Nigeria is as a result of the fact that over 70% of the revenues involved are derived from the extractive industry.
From the NEITI Quarterly Review currently in circulation, states with high debt burden include Benue indebted to the tune of N49.15 billion; Edo N94.54 billion; Enugu N57.56 billion; Ekiti; N67.3 billion and Kano; N81.05 billion. The Publication further disclosed that Katsina was indebted to the tune of N30.03 billion while and Ogun owes N103.75 billion, as at 2016.
A table containing the total revenue, the internally generated revenues and debt profile of the 36 States of the federation is accompanied.

Sources: Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, National Bureau of Statistics, Debt Management Office, Budgit
Notes: * Total Revenue = Total FAAC Allocations Received + Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)
** Total Debt = Domestic Debt + External Debt. Domestic debt is as at December 31, 2015. External debt is as at June 30, 2016

The NEITI Quarterly review shows that Yobe and Anambra states have the least debt burden of N11.74 billion and N20.60 billion respectively as at the end of 2016.
The NEITI publication also expressed concern that the total indebtedness of N3.342 trillion by the 36 states represented 55.15 per cent of the 2016 budget of N6.06 trillion and 45.8 per cent of the 2017 budget estimates of about N7.3 trillion.
On Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Lagos and Rivers states ranked highest with N301.2 billion and N82.1 billion generated by the respective States in 2016. Nassarawa State was the least in internal generated revenue with N2.09Billion.
This was followed by Ogun, Delta, Kano and Edo states with IGR records of N56.3 billion, N44.9 billion, N34.5 billion, N20.7 billion respectively.
The review noted that ratio of IGR to budget was very low in most states except Lagos state that recorded more than 45% of its 2016 budget from IGR.
The review also showed high dependence on revenue from federation account except Lagos and Ogun states that recorded higher IGR than FAAC allocations within the period under review.
The NEITI Quarterly Publication is designed to bring this information to the public domain with a view to promoting informed debate on strategic options to promoting efficient revenues management, improved internally generated revenues and lessen the dependence on oil, gas and mining revenues.D

IS BAYELSA STATE UNDER A SPELL?

For 7 months, one man is holding in bo***ge a state without any sign of development but has collected huge sums runnning into hundreds of billions but everyone is just looking blindly to wickedness perpetrated on the people.

What is wrong in appointing people who worked with the Governor. After 6 months as a Sole Administrator, I was informed, the Governor reluctantly approved the appointment of 26 Commissioners, one Special Adviser and 3 persons into the Local Government Service Commission.

Is it rockets science to appoint people who are part of his team to enjoy the dividends of democracy?

Well, if the people want to remain under spell-like condition and suffer without making any efforts to condemn and tell the one man show of expending billions of their money on a very private note, what do I do? I pity my people for this burden they are put under.

I know that if the people are afraid and can’t protest or tell the government to quit, God will do it, like the court has done its best to annul the election. What man cannot do, God can do. so those who think that oppressing the helpless is giving them pleasure, no problem, God’s day of judgement will surely caught up with them.

The same government has induced the IG of police to detaine an innocent man without charging him to court nor allowing him on bail. Is this the kind of thing Bayelsans are build to suffer? God forbid.

I know that the cries of the poor, oppressed and mismanagement of the state treasury will one day come to an end.

Let the people who think that all is well beware that God is not a man, but will judge and disgrace the oppressor.

JUST IN

Attempt to get Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama kept further incarcerated fails, as court turns down plea from his prosecutors to keep him detained till the end of November 2020.

After a call from the IGP to Vijah, he was eventually charged to court, where fresh frivolous charges were proffered against him.

Interestingly, all the charges from the petition of the Chief of staff to the Bayelsa state governor, Benson Agadaga were dropped.

The police is alleging that Vijah fought them when they came for his arrest. Why they came for his arrest and kept him behind bars for weeks is no longer of relevance.

Good news is, Vijah's bail is currently being processed, thanks to the judge who would not allow his sacred chamber be desecrated by purveyors of injustice and oppression.

Those who see power as an instrument of oppression and their cheerers should have it at the back of their mind that power is transient.

You informed his Lawyers and his friends who were lurking around Maitaima Division of the Nigeria Police Force to have a glimpse of Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama II that the Inspector General of Police wants to have a meeting with Vijah Inowei Eldred Opuama and brought him out of the dungeon you incercerated him for more than fourteen (14) days only for you to Nicodemusly take him to an Area Court in Zuba to arraign him without the knowledge of anybody. Not even his Lawyers.

If not that Vijah Opuama is an intelligent young man who knows his rights as a citizen of Nigeria and demanded to inform his Lawyers of his whereabout before taking his plea, we would have flanked the Force Headquarters in vain thinking our Mr Integrity was indeed having a meeting with the Inspector General of Police.

I was in court when Pius Danba called and informed me that Vijah Opuama was being arraigned in far away Zuba on trump up charges including resisting arrest.

None of the charges as contained in the charge sheet reflects cloning of voice of Benson Agadaga on whose petition you arrested the young man to persecute him for rejecting bribe.

You misled the court and never informed the court that there is a High Court Order for you to produce the young man only to remand him in prison.

You have only succeeded to embolden us and make us believe in the Movement more than ever.

We cannot be cowed or subjected to apologize for an offence we never committed.

You can only succeed in your tactics to strike fear in the hearts of feeble youths never to rise up to the occasion and question your government because we are the avant-garde and the slaves who hate their chains.

May posterity be kind.

FREE VIJAH ELDRED INOWEI...

PLANS BY BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT TO KILL VIJAH OPUAMA UNCOVERED

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

18 AUGUST 2020

Vijah Opuama Campaign Organization (VOCA) has uncovered the sinister move by the Government of Bayelsa state to kill the candidate of Liberation Movement, Mr. Vijah Opuama who is illegally being detained under unfavorable human conditions by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit at Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This discovery comes after the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal decision in ANDP vs INEC & 2 Ors which nullified the election of 16th November 2019 in Bayelsa state.

Mr. Opuama was arrested on the 15th day of August 2020 by men of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit within the premises of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on the instructions of the Bayelsa State Government Chief of Staff, Benson Agadaga while judgment was being delivered in his matter with INEC & 3 Ors.

The powers that be in Creek Haven have perfected plans to kill our Principal at the 16 November 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa state so as to frustrate the appeal in his own case seeking to disqualify the People's Democratic Party (PDP), His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and also frustrate Mr. Opuama participation in the fresh election due to his growing popularity and acceptability in Bayelsa state which is now a threat to the PDP and their unpopular candidates in the event that they are not disqualified before the fresh election.

We wonder why a respectable institution like the Nigeria Police Force will allow itself to be used by politicians to frustrate a law abiding citizen like Mr. Opuama by refusing to grant Mr. Opuama bail despite several applications and meeting his administrative bail conditions and have equally refused to charge him to court.

We maintain that Mr. Opuama has not committed any crime known to law to warrant his continued incarceration.

We call on Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari to call men of the IGP Monitoring Unit to order.

We call on Bayelsans and well meaning Nigerians to hold the current administration of Bayelsa state and the Nigeria Police Force responsible should anything untoward happen to Mr. Opuama as his team of lawyers continue to explore all legal means to put an end to this show of executive rascality by the Bayelsa state government.

Tuebi Sapere-Obi
DG, VOCA.
