Statement by Hon. Inia Seruiratu – LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

There has been a lot of publicity on the recent statement of the President of the FijiFirst and intention of instigating disciplinary action on FijiFirst Members of Parliament who voted for the Motion on the Emolument Review Report last Friday. This is a Party internal process and for now does not affect the work of Opposition MPs.

The Opposition MPs are currently working very hard in the six Parliamentary Standing Committees that they are members of to scrutinize the reports assigned to them from Parliament.

In addition, four very important Bills were brought to Parliament in the last sitting that are required to go through the Committee process and to be tabled back to Parliament in the August sitting.

These are important Bills that need to be thoroughly vetted by the Committee and to be enacted by Parliament at the earliest opportunity.

The Opposition MPs are continuing and working hard on their Committee roles and I would like to assure the people of Fiji that we will continue to diligently do our work as mandated to us through Parliament.

Complete major infrastructure plans, Seruiratu tells Govt

Leader of Opposition, Inia Seruiratu says it is the responsibility of the current Government to continue the good work that was done by FijiFirst and complete the implementation of major infrastructure plans.

He said this includes policies such as the Water Strategy 2050 and the major roads upgrades by Fiji Roads Authority as outlined in the National Development Plan.

Seruiratu said a lot of comments have been stated recently by the Government on the state of our aging infrastructure and this is a fact that no Government can deny, but to accept, and most importantly, act on it.

“Any responsible Government will do just that because not only does it serve the needs of the people, but it also creates the environment for growth and investment.”

“A modern state economy is very much dependent on the state and quality of its infrastructure.”

Seruiratu said the FijiFirst Government was confronted with the same challenges and took some decisive actions to address them.

“The actions taken mainly focused on institutional changes, project identification and prioritization, resource sourcing and allocation, and capacity and capability development.”

“The two main institutions created after a detailed audit of the roads and water infrastructures were the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) and Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), respectively.”

He said huge budgetary allocations were given annually to both FRA and WAF in recent years to fix not all, but the priorities already identified.

“Roads were upgraded, new ones constructed, bridges and jetties were built, and the same goes for water related projects such as the Rewa River Water Scheme or the Viria Project.”

“Additionally, these included the Construction of 52 new bridges, 4 lane highways from Suva to Nausori and Nadi Airport to Martintar, the Hibiscus highway, Nabouwalu to Dreketi, Sawani to Serea, under-the-sea water projects to Moturiki, Malake and Galoa, numerous water projects in rural areas across Fiji and many more such projects.”

“And along the way, there has been upgrading of old infrastructure while at the same time keeping up with the pressures to meet the needs of new customers, especially with the explosion of population into urban areas especially the Greater Suva Nausori corridor.”

He added that a lot of these were brought about by those who left the cane belts after not having their cane leases renewed.

Dear Fellow Fijians,

As we gather to celebrate Easter, let us reflect on the profound significance of this holy season for our Christian faith in Fiji and around the world. Easter marks the pinnacle of the Christian calendar, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, hope over hopelessness, freedom over slavery to sin and bo***ge. Jesus Christ left His throne in heaven to seek and find the lost.

In the midst of our joys and challenges, Easter reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice and unfathomable love that God has shown us through His son, Jesus Christ. It is a time for renewal, forgiveness, and gratitude for the blessings we have received so full and so free.

May this Easter bring peace, joy, and hope to every home in our beloved Fiji. Let us extend a hand of kindness to those in need, share love with our neighbors, and cherish the gift of life that we have been given, through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

On behalf of the FijiFirst and the nation, I wish you all a Happy Easter filled with blessings, love, and happiness. May the spirit of Easter ignite our hearts with genuine forgiveness, compassion, and unity as we journey together in solidarity and freedom towards a brighter future for our beloved Fiji.

God bless you all and God bless Fiji 🇫🇯

Fellow Fijians,

As we unite in celebrating the festival of Holi, let’s remember to allow good to defeat any evil that is in our hearts and to allow something new and positive to spring forth that will help another Fijian brother or sister.

Even though there are many hardships that we are all facing daily with the rise in the cost of living, the rise in crime, and many other things, I encourage us to all hold hands and work towards making Fiji a great nation once again for us and our future generation. Let’s all unite to bring stability, security, and equality to every Fijian and to help Fiji.

I encourage everyone to let go of inhibitions and let us all celebrate life.

Wishing all Fijians, a vibrant and colorful Holi. May the colors of Holi fill your life with joy, love, happiness, and prosperity.

A site visit this morning to the Northern side of Tailevu!!!

Came across the Vatudede Bridge and saw the damaged caused by severe flood in last few days of heavy rain.

This is the the bridge that connects villages like Delakado, Vorovoro and other nearby communities to the main road.

Also accessed by school students daily.

Today, Hon. Jone Usamate & I had the opportunity to visit farming communities in Muaniweni and Waidawara after the passing of TC MAL. There was no visible damage to the crops and roads, although some places were still without electricity.

We were also fortunate to have visited and welcomed by PA Naitasiri and Roko Tui Naitasiri with other civil servants from the Vunidawa Emergency Operation Center (EOC).

During the time of our visit, there was no EFL Power and Internet Connectivity in Vunidawa. However, feedback gathered that water levels are receding.

During our trip, the road from Sawani to Naqali was in bad condition and pockmarked with massive potholes. This, however, is not the doing of TC MAL alone and urgent road maintenance is needed.

Diwali Message

From the Leader of the Opposition – Hon. Inia Seruiratu

Let the celebration of Diwali this year bring about unity, love, and peace to the hearts of every Fijian.

Diwali is a joyous occasion as we celebrate light conquering darkness and good over evil. May we all come together in unity to enjoy the many good things we can all achieve when we work hand in hand in bringing light, prosperity and joy, over our beloved nation of Fiji.

As we move into the festive season with only weeks away from the end of the year, we must all take this time to reflect and be thankful for the year we have had.

It is times like Diwali that bring us all together in unity and love. I pray that we can cleanse our minds, bodies, and souls of darkness and allow the light to be victorious in each of us. Let us all stand up for peace, love, and harmony where no one is left behind. Happy Diwali to everyone and may light continue to conquer the darkness in our beloved nation of Fiji

Wishing every Fijian a joyous and safe Diwali.
