Monday morning dawned clear and bright, and we were up soon after. Our non-traditional (but affordable) breakfast was taco soup and the last of the cornbread, and some mandarin oranges. While I caught up on some work, Stephanie made our lunches and then we were off to Hobbs state park! Compared to Roaring River, Hobbs was wonderfully well kept and organized....

Eureka Springs is just eleven miles from the Arkansas/Missouri border, so we went north to visit Roaring River state park. We got a later start with the day, and Eureka Springs was quite loud with a biker event going on. (Side note: When Stephanie and I saw a sign saying "Noise Ordinance Enforced", we concluded that when it gets too quiet in Eureka Springs, the city sends out more motorcycles to get the decibels back up to eardrum damaging levels.)...

We missed our turn off (the sign was way back from the two lane highway), and after a fun bumpy stretch past brilliant green fields and grazing burgers-to-be, down a rusty colored mud road studded with gravel, we found the parking lot....

Stephanie and I took off this morning for a long weekend to hike and explore Eureka Springs in Arkansas, and of course the surrounding area. Last fall in early October we went to the Buffalo River area and enjoyed many trails and the fall colors and temperatures (Arkansas' summer humidity is the equivalent of carrying a fat, sweaty sheep on your shoulders at all times)....
