Life is not a Complaint Box!

"Everyone complains occasionally, but an attitude wherein complaining has become a basic disposition may create a depressing environment around us

The Bible demonstrates prayer as a wonderful fix for a grumbling attitude. Prayer can be the outlet wherein we pour our hearts out to God and tell him about our deepest anxieties and complaints.

Start trying this out today!"

Su***de is not an individual action, it is a societal failure!

According to the World Health Organization, we have one su***de that takes place somewhere on the planet every 40 seconds. And if that in itself can give you a shiver down your spine, consider this – for every su***de that actually takes place, there are 20 other unsuccessful attempts and hundreds of others who are actively considering it, possibly thousands who are struggling within themselves and the thought of ending it all in one instance, has crossed their minds.

What exactly is driving so many, especially, the young to consider su***de?

"Over the course of a generation, we have seen the selfie culture on the rise. This is not just in terms of photos, but in terms of the amount of importance we often place on self-gratification, even at the cost of our relationships and our ties with the communities that we are part of. The two-letter word “me” has probably become the most important aspect of most of our conversations and lifestyle choices.

This happens because we often end up seeing ourselves as the centre of the universe. We get so obsessively wrapped up in our own world that we forget about the people around us and their struggles.

So we can either be full of ourselves and have an empty life, or let go of our self-obsession and have an abundant one. What is your choice going to be?"

"We have all been through situations wherein we kick ourselves for saying something we shouldn’t have. The words that come out of our mouths have profound implications. Studies have revealed that they have a deep psychological impact on the listeners. Our words can be a blessing or a curse for others. So, we should be careful with our own mouth and have control over it.

This is easier said than done. But since our words can have a deep impact on the lives of others, we should make diligent efforts to control or tame our tongues. One way to do this is to always deliberately take time to respond with a better choice of words; even silence is better than destructive words.

But even this may not be a lasting fix to this issue."

What and Who can help us make that lasting change? To get the answer read on this short article by Albin Siby on our website and get powered up: https://iopener.today/daily-digest/power-up/me-and-my-big-mouth/

"The world can be a very glittery place, with many eye-catching sights and moments. Often times, by looking at this glamour outside and comparing it to our small world, we become dissatisfied and tend to complain at the slightest discomfort.

There is much that lies underneath that surface of glamour – many homeless people and hungry mouths, many unloved and suffering, many unemployed and financially unstable, many going through terminal illnesses and other crises. Yet, we complain that our rooms are small and the food isn’t tasty, that we are overprotected, that our office culture isn’t up to the mark and that life isn’t smooth. We constantly forget to be thankful for the good things we have."

"Joy isn’t a feeling that is dependent on our circumstances. Happy people know that true happiness is a choice, not a reaction to the circumstances. It is because we don’t understand this that we sometimes tend to seek joy in the wrong places, either looking for it in a better job, or in the next pay-check or in another person who we think we can rely on.

We often find that we are mistaken when we believe that happiness is reliant upon the acquisition of something new or something different."

The Bible clearly tell us about the source of True Joy.

"Our countrymen in the armed forces, police, fire brigade etc., have laid down their lives on several occasions for securing the lives of others. On this National Supreme Sacrifice Day, let us remember them with honour and gratitude. All of these men & women had people who loved them, their parents, spouses, children, and friends, yet they somehow counted it more worthy of giving up their lives for saving somebody, a “somebody” who doesn’t even know them!

On this day, can we remember someone who gave his life as the ultimate sacrifice, but people didn’t honour him when he was alive; rather, they wanted him to die! It was only later that people realised what a grave mistake it was!

He was no one else but Jesus Christ, who came down as a person from heaven and gave his life as a sacrifice for ALL. When he sacrificed his life willingly on the cross, he was doing it for saving the entire humanity from their sins and FORGIVING them."

"Paul Kalanithi, a brilliant neurosurgeon, was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer at the age of thirty-six. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next day he was a patient fighting to live. The future that he and his wife had planned out evaporated just like that. On the challenge of facing mortality, he wrote, ”Seven words from Samuel Beckett began to repeat in my head: ’I can’t go on. I’ll go on’.“

We all have to deal with grief at some point in life. Each of us has different ways of coping with such grief or heartbreak. Some of us try to run away from the problem, while some of us lean on those who love us. But sometimes, in spite of all these coping mechanisms, we still continue to feel inconsolable.

What can help us in saying "It feels like I can’t go on, but I will go on."?

"The owner of a Model T-Ford car once found himself by the side of a road with a broken engine. Being an expert with cars, he refused to call for help and tried everything possible to get his engine fixed. But the car just wouldn’t start. Minutes later, a large limousine pulled up and an old man stepped out, stood and watched him quietly. Finally, the old man advised him to adjust a specific engine part. The guy decided he might as well give it a shot though there was no way this old guy knew more about the car than him. Much to his disbelief, the engine cranked to life. Surprised, he asked the old man, “How did you know what to do?” The old man said, “My name is Henry Ford and I invented this car.”

We live in a world where each day throws new surprises at us! One cannot read a newspaper without ever wondering where this world is heading. Staggering economy, declining health, breaking families, minimal security… Where do we place our confidence when the world around us is but sinking ground?"

"Don’t we all go through days when we ask, “Why do I even exist?!”, or traumatic experiences when we say, “I don’t think I can take this anymore.” Our lives are built on various things and relationships which feel like strong pillars to us, such as family, friends, financial security, education, skills, health etc. When some of these pillars are shaken, it may cause panic in our lives.

Pain and crisis have a reputation of showing up in the most unexpected ways. They may come in the form of financial loss, the death of a loved one, sickness or a loss of reputation. When such things occur, it feels like we’ve hit rock-bottom. Everything we relied on seems like it’s dissolving away, unable to support us anymore, and leaving us feeling totally bent out of shape and almost broken.

But what if we are told that there could be something beautiful that comes out of something like this?"
