The way you make wudhu is very important. Your wudhu must be according to the sunnah of Nabi sallAllahu alyhi wasallam. If you waste water during wudhu, instead of gaining noor in your soul, you'll gain darkness. Your wudhu will still be valid if you perform it properly, but you'll be deprived of the full spiritual benefit thereof, and it will undoubtedly affect the quality of your salah. Don't rush for salah. If you're a guy, be sure to get to the masjid early. Reply to the azaan. Be attentive and focus on the words. This will be an excellent way of preparing for salah. By getting to the masjid early, it gives your mind time to wind down. A little meditation goes a long way. If you're all caught up in dunya and then just rush for salah, you'll never be able to concentrate because your mind will still be full of dunya. You'll be thinking about what you just did, or what you need to do, etc. The trick is to live in the moment. When you raise your hands for takbeer and say “Allahu akbar”, the mercy of Allah rushes towards you, and it's as if you are now standing in the court of Allah. There's a reason why salah is called the miraaj of a believer. Perform salah as if you can see Allah, and if you're unable to do that, then know, without doubt, that Allah sees you. Pray as if it's your farewell prayer.
