Dinosaur tracks can teach us more about the day-to-day behavior of creatures like T. Rex or the Stegosaurus than their skeletons ever could, says paleontologist Martin Lockley.

From a "dinosaur's lover's lane" in Colorado, where the ancestors of today's birds clawed out giant nests to attract mates, to the rocky shores of South Korea, where scientists have discovered footprints of tiny birds besides tracks of 100-ft-long brontosaurs, Lockley interprets the traces of some of the most impressive creatures ever to walk the earth.

Did you know that in the 1920s and 1930s, when Adolf Hitler and Nazi officials developed Germany's policies towards Jews, they looked to the US government for inspiration? It's true. Where the US and Germany differ today is that Germany has made a conscious effort to educate its citizens about the Holocaust. Americans are afraid to face the gruesome reality of our Indigenous genocide. In this eye-opening talk, Gregg Deal shares a variety of artworks that bring the truth into the light. Deal is a provocative contemporary artist whose multimedia work challenges Western perceptions of Indigenous people. Through painting, graphic design, murals, performance art, filmmaking, and spoken word, Deal examines issues of decolonization and appropriation and their impacts within Indian Country. Through various social justice movements (#changethename, #MMIR), he challenges the silencing and erasure of Indigenous people, and instead works to elevate Native personhood and educate non-Native peoples living on Indigenous homelands. Gregg is a citizen of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe. Watch full talk at youtube.com/watch?v=Haucf0lQ-L0

When you're burned out, caring for yourself (or your family) can feel nearly impossible. Therapist KC Davis gets it, and she's got a message for anyone struggling with daily tasks: you're not lazy. Care tasks, she says, are neither good nor bad — they're morally neutral. Davis offers creative shortcuts and workarounds for everything from using wet wipes when you can't manage a shower to sealing dirty dishes in a giant zip-loc until you feel up to washing them. Because regardless of your mental health struggles, you are a person worthy of functional space. #tedxmilehigh #tedxtalks #tedx

Growing up in Ghana, Francis Agyakwa witnessed the power of communal drumming rituals firsthand. Now, as a social work researcher, he's investigating how this traditional practice can help people heal from trauma. In this eye-opening talk, Agyakwa explains how drumming can promote increased resilience, energy, creativity, and connection – and why Western scientists should investigate indigenous practices. He is joined on stage by Aimee Alcorn, Bethany Kammerer, Dawn Crosswhite, Marco DiFerreira, and Marnesia Bryant. #tedxmilehigh #tedxtalks #tedx

Olga González believes nonprofits often underestimate the communities they serve. They swoop in, she says, with outside resources and money but ignore the assets these communities already possess. That's why she endorses the promotora model, where a nonprofit trains people from the community they serve to provide outreach, advocacy, and services. Here, González shares several success stories of promotoras in action – from distributing masks and vaccines to farmworkers during the COVID-19 pandemic to monitoring air pollution near a local oil refinery. #tedxmilehigh #tedxtalks #tedx

Did you ever notice how kids make all kinds of weird sounds and noises, and then suddenly you're an adult and that's no longer socially acceptable? In this delightful talk and performance, Beatbox Champion Mark Martin demonstrates how he uses beatboxing in speech therapy. Artist Titus Kaphar's powerful paintings and sculptures tell a story of erasure and marginalization, but also of resilience and hope. He emphasizes that we cannot move forward as a society by simply ignoring or erasing the darker aspects of our history. Instead, we must engage with them honestly and with a commitment to change. “I AM ___________________” What is the spectrum of your human experience? How are you living authentically? Last week TEDxMileHigh attendees explored the full spectrum of the human experience through the visual and spoken arts. They told stories of dichotomy and came to the realization that we are all living within a grey area. We are not just our polarizing labels but instead, we are living in that in between state. Fill in the blanks in the comments: “I AM ____________________” Thanks to Britton Murrey and Unbound Photographic!
