A small Theo POV in my Loving Mr. Unlikeable story. For those who read the story, enjoy this tidbit!

Some kids grew up with parents to show on family day and others were lucky enough to have their parents pick them up from school. Well for me, not so much luck. As long as I can remember, it was just me, my kuya, and lola. Since lola can't walk for too long or stand straight for long periods of time, kuya was the one who had to do everything for me.

"Theo, for the nth time, it's MDAS. How are you still getting the wrong answer after all this time?" he would say when we would work through my assignments. He's not the most patient tutor out there. To his dismay, I still get it wrong and I get smacked on the thigh with his slipper.

He was my mama, my papa, and my kuya rolled in one. He made sure I was fed, my uniform was clean, and I was taken care of when I was sick. At times, he was also my best friend. He understood me on a deeper level. But because we were so close, we also had fights like no other. I'd go physical on him and he put me in place with one smack on the face. It was glorious that I wouldn't be mad anymore, I just wonder how my neck didn't break from that award-winning backhand.

"Do you even understand what love is? You're too young to have a girlfriend," he told me once when I opened up to him. I was thirteen and he was twenty-three. He was on vacation with us. I gave him a huff and said to him, "How would you know? You're heartless!"

I left in a storm and as usual, he didn't chase after me. It was his way of tough love - he didn't want me to be a brat and didn't want me to be a 'soft sack of s**t' to quote him. He has an elegant way of putting his perspective to words.

That next day, I apologized to him. I damn knew I was wrong since he made me feel it. Made me savor it. He would look over his shoulder from the kitchen and ask, "Scrambled or sunny side up?" "Scrambled." "Okay," he'd say and I knew we already made up. That was how he showed his love, through food.

"Kuya, when will you get a girlfriend? Aren't you old?" "I'm still in my early twenties, Theo." "That's old." He cocked a brow at my direction and kept his mouth shut. He wasn't having it.

Now that I think about it, maybe my kuya's gay? I remember there were some girls in the past who showed interest but he shrugged them off. He wouldn't bond with anyone from the opposite s*x since forever. I remember wanting to ask him badly if he was indeed gay. I didn't, of course. If I did, I'd have a wok-sized crater on my forehead if I did. If he is, honestly, I support him.

Years passed and I had a few girlfriends here and there, and him? No, no girlfriend. It also seemed he had no interest in getting in a relationship. Lola and I tried fixing him up with girls and he would shut it down almost immediately. He did have a reputation for being short-tempered with an unfiltered mouth. No ladies can survive that.

Well, until we had a new neighbor. She's beyond pretty, a rare sight in our side of Siargao. I thought she was a tourist at first but she moved in a while back. I heard from lola she asked for help one time and had the unfortunate circumstance of meeting my kuya in his exhausted mode. After that meeting, things were never the same. Things were never the same for kuya.

We talked last night and I asked him, "Do you like her? The city girl?"

He looked at me and then the cigarette between his fingers. "She's annoying." "Will she be your girlfriend in the future?" Seth frowned and turned his attention to the sea in front of us. "Will you-"

"Jesus Christ. You're as annoying. Give it a rest," he interrupted and stubbed his cigarette in the sand. Before I could even open my mouth, he turned his head to her house's direction and his expression softened somehow. As quickly as it happened, he turned away and left me alone.

I knew then and there, that I saw the change I waited for for years.

Tatiana de Guzman always knew that she was special. Her family is sickeningly wealthy, attracts people from all walks of life, and is the apple of her father's eye. All she wanted in life is to feel what a normal teenager would feel. It seemed like a far-fetched dream until her father said yes.

Then there's Aiden Santos. He's timid, silent, and probably the most average teenager around. He has the height for someone spectacular yet a face value of a toast. Despite his harmless and boring appearance, he's been trusted to take care of Tatiana. However, there's more to him than meets the eye.

With a series of college crises and teenager problems, Tatiana and Aiden either bicker or escape each other's clutches to save their sanity. Is it even possible for them to work together? Or even fall in love? They don't seem to think so.

"What's your plan five years from now?"

He looked at her blankly but tried to hold on to the smile on his face. Slowly, he opened his mouth and spewed out the rehearsed words he always used in interviews. The interviewer was impressed and complimented his brilliant answer.

However, his answer was far from the truth. Since when was he an excellent liar? Since when did he stop being someone teeming with dreams and hopes? For once, he didn't know. None of his memorized answers made sense to him.

He was holding on to nothing and everything at once. He was as lost as he could be in the sea of endless despondent faces he witlessly belonged to. In other words, he was utterly, devastatingly lost.

What were his plans five years from now? In all honesty, he was just going through the days and took one step at a time. For he never thought he'd survive this long.

Perhaps the correct answer to the question the interviewer asked him was: Live.
