๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑFarm to table date night in 30 minutes ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฑ

1. ๐ŸThai Basil Pesto Sauce๐Ÿ
When it comes to making food, I like to think about what the ingredients are doing in the food. I had a healthy thai basil plant that was thriving in the hot weather and more basil than I can use in a stir-fry. And every vegan pantry has lotsss of cashew. I made a delicious pesto meal with Thai basil, wok-roasted cashew nuts, lemon juice, and oil simply blended. Also got my hands on some FREE Herbyvore Cheese from .foods so I had the opportunity to add some delicious vegan Parmesan in there.

2. ๐Ÿ…Leftover Pasta Sauce Tomato Soup๐Ÿ…
Have you ever had a strange amount of sauce not enough for 2 pax but too much for one? Make some z'nged up soup with leftover jar sauce and some onions and fresh tomatoes, and a little stock. Super delicious and easy, and it is as simple or complex as you want it to be.

3. ๐Ÿ“Raspberry Mousse Dessert๐Ÿ“
This can be made of anything you want + Blended Silken Tofu + Lemon Juice (or something that adds tartness). Raspberry isn't very cheap in Singapore, but you can get a huge 1 kg bag of frozen ones from Malaysia for 10 SGD. Alternatively, mangoes are in season now for as low as 50 cents each. Top with anything, leftover lotus from your last vegan cheesecake, digestive biscuits or fresh fruit. The choices are endless.

4. ๐ŸนTamarind Mocktail๐Ÿน
If you cook any form of Malaysian food, you probably have tamarind paste/sauce at home. Mix this with a little bit of brown sugar, and top it off with some mixer like soda water. If you want alcohol, to make it a cocktail, I think Rum or Vodka should work with this drink. The takeaway is to play and experiment with your food. I first fell in love with Tamarind drinks while in Bali, so it was fun trying to recreate some version of it.

For first-time cooks, making a large amount of food can be overwhelming, especially when you arrive home at 7pm after work and have very little time to cook. I also created a simple Gnatt Chart to show the process of preparing this meal in under 30 minutes. (Slide to last slide)

Anyway, hope this post has inspired some of you to make your own food!

Recipes from โ€œThe Vegan Chinese Kitchenโ€ by Hannah Che

Itโ€™s not everyday a cookbook wins a James beard award! And a vegan one at that. When I saw this cookbook won an award I was so excited to try it out. Deceptively simple looking recipes with gorgeous photos and stories to boot.

Rather than mock meats, this book seems to have a focus on bring out the best in a variety of vegetables. And there is nothing one canโ€™t find easily in Singapore!

๐ŸฅฌStir Fried Napa Cabbage with Vinegar Sauce๐Ÿฅฌ
The author claims itโ€™s her dadโ€™s favourite and I have some cabbage at home. This deceptively simple recipe is elevated but the slight prep work mentioned like salting the vegetables. While it seems like an acquired taste, it tastes nicer and nicer the more I eat it. Will probably reduce the vinegar to taste in future but def has restaurant quality taste!

๐ŸณPan Fried Tofu with Pickled Greens๐Ÿณ
So I did not actually have any pickled toppings but the tofu already tastes sooo good. (TECHNIQUE) The magic was boiling the tofu in salted water for 3 minutes. What it does it that it pulls out excess moisture and tightens the proteins on its surface. Definitely adding one more step the next time I cook pan fried tofu, it makes a huge difference imo! The savoury sauce was also super simple and delicious.

Definitely encourage aspiring cooks to check the book on Libby or pick it up from Amazon SG for around $41! Very achievable, delicious and cheap to make recipes plus pick up some techniques along the way. Not recommended if you are already a pro but if youโ€™re not definitely got stuff to learn!

- Sake and Rice wine is an easy substitute (I don't wanna buy both haha)

๐ŸฒPanza ไฝ ๅ•ฆ Salad & ๐Ÿž๐ŸŒถVegan Mala Dip with Golden Mantou .livetoeat

Came across a shop recently with a pretty extensive vegetarian/vegan menu (See slide 2), where 40% of their menu is vegetarian. It has definitely piqued my interest, as I'm always excited to discover more food options.๐Ÿ˜

Every 45 days, .livetoeat explores a new menu concept, which revolves around different themes crafted by co-founder and celebrity chef โœจโœจ. They primarily sourced their menu locally with a focus on healthy foods made sustainable. In fact, their packaging is supposed to be fully compostable. They also have a pretty cool monthly food distribution effort, where they serve fresh cooked meals straight from Live To Eat's kitchen, only at night, since they have found their beneficiaries normally only get lunches.

This time, they have a bread-based theme, and I had the chance to try two menu items.

๐Ÿž๐ŸŒถVegan Mala Dip With Golden Mantou๐Ÿž๐ŸŒถ
My first time trying Mantou air fried and it is delicious while being way less sinful. My fiance said he has found a new love for airfried mantou. It tastes amazing coupled with their mala dip, which was a delicious blend of mushrooms, greens and locally produced mala paste. Not very filling on its own, but a great side for sharing with friends.

๐ŸฒPanza ไฝ ๅ•ฆ Salad ๐Ÿฒ
Panzanella or panmolle is a traditionally a Tuscan and Umbrian chopped salad served with soaked stale bread, onions and tomatoes that is popular in the summer. In this version, they make it with their house-baked fresh Italian summer bread, with roasted squash, brinjals, olives, caramelised shallots, homegrown Thai Basil, and tossed in balsamic reduction. My first time trying such a dish, and I loved it. They roasted the squash and brinjals to perfection. I also loved that they used more Asian centric ingredients like shallots and thai basil for a unique yet complimentary fusion. A must try!

๐ŸŒŸTheir current bread menu will only be around till 10 August, so come down soon to B1 enjoy the dishes featured here. If you miss it, I hear exciting things in the works from them for their new menu, but I will not spoil it for now.๐Ÿคญ๐ŸŒŸ

Super loved this burger, and told my fiance I am 100% making a return trip for these. I'm not the biggest fan of the Kibbeh texturally, but I think that is just my opinion. It doesn't have much bite to it, and kind of falls apart inside the wrap. But the wrap was still solidly delicious, and the flavours went well. It kinda felt more like a burrito than a wrap. I will also compliment their tortilla, which was grilled beautifully and tasted crisp yet soft.

Gusto - Organic Naturally Slim Cola $5.50
Of course, you have to finish off with a drink. I absolutely adored the cola, which was not only low in sugar, low calorie but made all natural with no artificial sweeteners. I have never tasted such healty tasting cola before.

James White Classic Apple & Elderflower $5.50
This was a refreshing blend, though I mostly tasted apple juice. Nice drink to wash down the meal.

Nasi Lemak with Chicken, amazingly realistic .sg ommelette and mushroom ikan billis and sambal!

Did the Chicken or the Egg come first? ๐Ÿค”
With this delicious plant-based egg and plant-based chicken, absolutely neither. Just protien rich plant-based goodness.

When I first heard that was doing a brunch which featured an ommelette by .sg by (*contains alliums), I was so excited.

I am a sucker for plant-based innovations, as there are never enough ways to innovate and make plant-based foods more accessible to the common person.

And this new .sg ommelette is by far the best asian style plant based ommelette I have tried. It is very remarkable how much R&D goes into making such a realistic plant-based egg using legumes like soybeans and fava beans, leading to a similar protien with low saturated fat goodness.

This nasi lemak also featuredd chicken coated in crispy curry batter. The chicken was the best version I have tasted, and anyone that has not tried , come down to , you won't be disappointed.

If you are reading this, beyond promoting local produce like eggs and meat, I feel it is also important to promote and help innovative companies like our SG-based .sg, whom not only managed to produce a realistic egg, but does so with an 88% reduction in greenhouse gases and 76% reduction in water consumption. Especially with the recent chicken and fish shortage, it is more important now than ever to look into sustainable plant-based alternatives.

Honourable mentions are the mushroom ikan bilis, Nyonya-style sambal and fluffy pandan coconut rice.

A huge thank you to passionate .sg team! Can't wait to see what you guys with cook up next!

๐Ÿฒ Botanict's Nasi Tumpeng

This limited time only set is good for 5-7 pax at $128 excluding the delivery fee.

has recently launched a new vegan and allium-free Nasi Tempeng in celebration of this year's Parent's day! Vegetarian Indo food is hard enough to come by as it is but fully vegan and allium-free is really impressive!

๐ŸŒฑCucumber salad with salmon cubes
This salad was a refreshing mix, and helped cut through the more jelat fried stuff!

๐ŸŒฑAyam rendang
It didn't really taste like rendang, but the mock chicken had a very tender melt in the mouth texture, and I love the coconut flavours!

๐ŸŒฑSambal petai, Tempeh and beancurd
I love Sambal, I love Petai, I love Tempeh and I love Beancurd. This was tasty, though I would personally prefer it to be spicier!

๐ŸŒฑChap Chye
This was probably the table's favourite. Despite not traditionally belonging to Nasi Tumpeng, it complemented the other dishes and was the first to be gone.

๐ŸŒฑFried oyster mushroom
Super nice in the soy dipping sauce. It was the second to be gone at our table

๐ŸŒฑBegedil
OMG, this is vegan? For everyone that has bought food from a Malay store before, you may have come across these delicious morsels. Basically the Malay equivalent of a croquette, traditionally made of mashed potatoes, fried with a coating of egg. A must try!

๐ŸŒฑGaram Assam fish
It was a little tough for me, but the flavours not bad!

๐ŸŒฑYellow rice (Huge portion)
Rice texture is good and very fragrant.

๐ŸŒฑGreen chilli padi with Soy Sauce
This sauce is really nice to dip the fried stuff in! Can be spicier hehe

๐ŸŒฑAyam Penyet Chilli
Anyone who knows me would know I love my sambal. And this may be one of the best vegan alliums free Ayam Penyet Chilli ever. They give you a large punnet included to drown your mountain of rice.

Just had Flavours By Saute recently with my sister prior to watching the show to support my fiancรฉ .thoo. Flavours by Saute is definitely one of the fool proof options that have delicious vegan friendly foods. This is what we had. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

๐ŸŒฟLion Mane Yee Noodle ($11.90)
Love this so much. It feels wholesome, and is the most delicious crispy noodles I've had, abiet the most expensive crispy noodles I've had. Had this four times already ๐Ÿคฃ

๐ŸŒฟPasta - Laksa Lion Mane ($14.90)
My sister got this to try, and I have to say this is one flavourful dry Laksa. It's very flavourful and beats most (not all๐Ÿคฃ) Laksa in terms of flavour. The pasta is perfectly cooked too. Sister thought it was worth a try, but that she preferred soup version cos personal preference.

Also love that this outlet has NO additional service charge GST. Makes the price tag more palatable. Anyway you know I'll be back for those noodles again ๐Ÿ˜‹

Price valid from 1-30 April 2022. Details below.

โœˆ๏ธPorcelain Cafe by Gratefood Co. previously located at The Paragon #04-48 has moved to 55 Market Street, -01, outside โœˆ๏ธ

Went to check out the newly relocated with .thoo. Didn't know smoothie bowls could be so filling! Definitely an ๐Ÿ“ธ IG worthy cafe๐Ÿ“ธ to check out, my feed has been blessed๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

๐ŸŒฑSpirulina Chia (Featured in 1st photo)
Found the spirulina slightly bitter with the rich amounts of the Japanese cermonial matcha powder, which was naturally sweetedn with bananas. The chocolate chia pudding complemented the matcha well!
The smoothie bowl is made with Gratefood Co.โ€™s fresh frozen spirulina, bananas and Japanese ceremonial matcha powder.

๐ŸŒฑAcerola Speculoos (see 2nd photo)
Both of us loved the slightly tart flavours of the Acerola smoothie bowl, which is very nicely balanced by the generous portion(love this!) of sweet Speculoos scooped to the side.
This smoothie bowl is blended with Gratefood Co.โ€™s organic acerola pulp, banana and coconut yogurt.

๐ŸŒฑChix & Tofu Muffin
The crowdโ€™s favorite was really good! This was probably my favourite dish! Using marinated tofu for the "egg" was a stroke of genius, even the non-vegan .thoo is impressed.
This was created to have vegan converts reminisce the taste of a very familiar fast food chainโ€™s chicken egg muffin! Savor the muffin with crispy plant-based patty lightly battered with garlic & herbs, garlic soy marinated tofu aka โ€œthe egg", vegan cheese, and plant-based mayo. Comes with tea!

๐ŸŒฑDark Chocolate Tart
This tart was pretty good, esp for those who love DARK chocolate. Like really dark, and like the taste of coconut milk in their desserts.

๐ŸฒMelecca-Style Laksa ๐Ÿฒ ($6.90)

When we think of Green on Earth, the first thing that comes to mind is their glorious Signature Mala. I always go with my spice intolerant fiance .thoo, who has been successfully converted to the spicy side after his first visit to Green on Earth, back when they were in Phoenix. Admittedly, we still only eat ๅฐๅ•ฆ till this day ๐Ÿคญ

Having said that, me and my sister had a craving for laksa last Saturday, and would like to satisfy our cravings. We wanted to try something near our house other than the usual Greendot or D'life, and stumbled upon the fact that Green On Earth also sells laksa.

Imagine our delight when I got the laksa, which was no only chock full of ingredients, but also extremely fragrant, and different from the usual Singaporean Style Laksa. I am not entirely sure what herbs or spices make it taste different, but it is very aromatic, and did remind me of the laksa I had in melecca before covid. I also love the slightly charred brinjals, the two large prawn pieces, the long beans, tau kua and tau pok that graced the dish.

Definitely worth a try for every laksa lover.

โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿง‡ Afternoon tea ๐Ÿง‡โ˜•๏ธ

Tried the new Mong Cha Cha cafe finally after so long!

Look at how gorgeous the cafe and food is, absolutely no filter on the photos but still so pretty!

Got the usual absolutely delicious Earl Grey Brown Sugar Mylk yet again, and decided to try the new offerings, including the Okonomiyaki Waffles and the Delish Blueberry cake.

The cakes baked by are absolutely out of this world, and I do not think I have had such good cream cakes it a while. A perfect "does not taste vegan" and "not too sweet" cake with real blueberries. Please do follow , as they do update whenever a new cake is out. So far, they have done Strawberry Creme Cake, Chocolate Creme Cake, Uji Matcha Creme Cake and Blueberry Creme Cake.

Also shout out to the amazing team at Mong Cha Cha, who know how to take feedback. While the vegan mayos and flavours of the initial okonomiyaki waffles are delish, I did feedback to have some Okonomiyaki sauce. I then learned how challenging it was to make something both alliums and vegan free. More often than not, it involves personal R&D, as it is not easy to find suppliers. They just added sauce last week! Mad respect, and definitely worth another try!

Definitely up for a revisit again.

๐ŸŒฑLeaf Corner (Sembawang) ๐ŸŒฑ

I was surprised on a date by my fiance .thoo when he told me he was bringing me to a place I have not tried before. To be honent, I have seen this restaurant around but the location was a little inconvenient for my liking, so I have not actually been here before ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ

Anyway, it turns out the food is actually really good, and really worth coming down to eat! My fiance says it is one of his new favourite (not just vegetarian, but general) restaurants now ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ‘

The ambience also quite nice, located right opposite Sembawang Shopping mall in a shophouse next to the landed estate. It's nice to sit facing the non-busy road in the evening and people watch.

Here is my review for the food.

๐ŸฒAssam Laksa ($6) ๐Ÿฒ
If you have ever been near a D'Laksa outlet (think the smell of the entire Malaysia KSL City Mall Basement), you know their penang laksa is damn fragrant. Now take the prawn paste smell out. That is exactly now this penang laksa smells like. Topped with crisp cucumber shreds, and the very light tasting yet fragrant soup.

๐Ÿฅ•Radish Cake (Eggless) ($6)๐Ÿฅ•
The best eggless radish cake I have ever had. Since cutting egg from carrot/radish cake, I have found myself enjoying it less, until today!
It is savoury, very very crispy and fragrant with chye poh, beansprouts and carrots. It is definitely not a health food, but once in a while can lah๐Ÿ˜…

๐ŸขSatay ($6)๐Ÿข
Beautifully seasoned standard mock satay fare. The peanut sauce is too watery for my liking, but also quite fragant! Wished I had rice to go with it, cos a lot was wasted ๐Ÿ˜ญ My fiance likes how charred it is. Victor's veg is still my ultimate, but apparently this is my fiance's new favorite!

๐ŸPenang Char Kway Teow ($5.50?)๐Ÿ
This is glorious wok hey infused kway teow. Definitely a hit!

If you have read this far, just go try only! Thanks for reading!

๐Ÿš๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Double Steamed Vegan Nasi Lemak ๐Ÿš๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

Trying the new vegan lemak set by Chef Shen's latest hawker venture, OG Lemak.

The double steamed rice is really exemplary, with the most flavour I have tasted in any nasi Lemak. The nicely separate grains of rice pack so much flavour it can be easily eaten on its own. However, the star of the show is the sambal, which is vegan friendly and chock full of flavour. Really one of the best sambal I have, and uniquely has Kaffir lime leaves, which I have not had before in nasi Lemak sambal. Really like the fresh taste the Kaffir Lim Leaves bring. ๐Ÿ˜

The dish is coupled with some nice simple side dishes, including Tempeh, stir fried long beans with sambal, Sambal Tau Kwa and my favourite, the grilled eggplant.

All in all, this is an exemplary dish, and while it is the first I've tried by I hope it is not the last! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

The place is open 11am till sold out, so do go during lunchtime to avoid disappointment! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Notes. This is not a pure vegetarian establishment. Also, this dish contains alliums.

๐Ÿฅ˜Mala Vegetables at Cheng Du ๐Ÿฅ˜

Very delicious but the abundance of fries and lack of lotus roots (3pc)and cauliflower (4pc) was disappointing, especially given the high $20.80++ price tag. I guess that's what you get for ordering off menu, as I felt there was zero value for money. I feel it would be better priced at 12.80 for what I'm getting. ๐Ÿ˜…

๐ŸฅจAuntie Anneโ€™s Almond Crunch Soft Pretzel๐Ÿฅจ

Did you know Auntie Anneโ€™s delicious pretzels are VEGAN? Well now, you do!
(No eggs, No Butter)

Baked fresh daily with a golden dough, with crispy sweet almond exterior and soft chewy interior, Auntie Anneโ€™s soft pretzels are my guilty pleasure, at $3.60 a pop.

Other than the price, I have nothing bad to say about it. It tastes phenomenal, and itโ€™s vegan? I have been snacking on it during pre-vegan days and will definitely keep doing so. In fact, probably more so since many bread shops have declared their entire bread collection non-vegan, with the plain baguette as the exception. .

๐Ÿ” Plant Based Whooper๐Ÿ” (f.t. )

Finally, its my turn to try Burger King's plant based whooper. Having heard comments ranging from Cardboard to not bad, I was hesitant to spend my $8.40 here. Having said that, this is the most convenient vegan friendly meal in my area at the moment, so let's give this a try!

I ordered mine without Mayo to make it vegan. Disclaimer that they use the same grill, but since the buns and patty are vegan, I consider this edible ๐Ÿคฃ

>> slide 2 for patty Cross section

At first bite, I was bracing myself for the dry patty, but actually, it's not bad leh. The patty probably tastes "well done" by meat standards, but before beyond and impossible meat, all vegetarian beef tended to be non tender and on the dryer side. It's no premium mock beef, but the pricing also reflects that.

It tastes like mock ham, but chunkier and stringier. I feel that it's actually decent for people used to normal mock meat. I think I'll compare the taste to princess meat (vegetarians know that's the cheap slices in economy bee hoon stores), with a more stringy veg mutton texture. Those who don't mind the cheaper mock meat taste definitely won't mind this.

And it comes with the usual suspects for a normal burger, with ketchup, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes. Definitely tastes like a burger.

>> slide 3 to see the warming station
I suspect since the patty is dry for some people maybe also owning to the low turnover. If the outlet made too many patties, and the patty stayed in the warming station too long post grill, it will be super dry. Plan your meal times accordingly. I think lunchtime is best to avoid this issue.

Anyway, all in all, its a decent burger. I like that despite that the patty is thin, it fills the entire bun. It's a pretty huge bun. And it tastes like a burger. If you want a burger, and you're not looking for a premium experience, this is the best fast food vegan friendly burger you can get now under 7 dollars(ala-carte). And way better than BK Veggie, a sad potato patty they ran for some time. ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿง๐ŸฐRBV Variety Box๐Ÿง๐Ÿฐ

It is safe to say a vegan foodie has not completed their initiation into the world of vegan sweets until they have had a try of Rae Bakes Vegan's baked goods. Apologies for posting this so late (Itโ€™s been two months) but thank goodness she still sells some of these bakes so please check her out at .

Introducing the variety assorted box๐Ÿฅก

The most glorious assorted box with solidly delicious baked goods. We have with me a fluffy cinnamon roll (That I accidentally burnt in the oven), a lemon berry loaf, two carrot cupcakes, and one peppermint brookie๐Ÿช! I also ordered an additional carrot cake and got one free? ๐Ÿ˜Thatโ€™s just amazing!

Anyway, canโ€™t comment on the burnt cinnamon roll, but the carrot cakes were moist and had a lovely frosting on top. I kind of preferred the sliced cake format for the carrot cakes, but I am just happy to have so much cake. The cookie was an outstanding cakey brownie, and it basically tasted like reverse cookie mint ice cream๐Ÿฆ. YUM. I only wished it was less sweet as I have a sweet tooth, but I like my sweets low in sugar hehe.

But the main attraction and the one I expected the least from. That LEMON BERRY TEA CAKE.โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’› Hold up what is that even. It was moist even straight out of the fridge, and a perfect blend of sweet and tart. (Sorry I was lazy to heat I just wanted cake!) It was sweet on top with tart berry bursts in the middle. Super yum! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Side note: Rae is younger than my baby sister.๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Omg so talented please support her while sheโ€™s still on her gap year and still has time to bake for us. Maybe you can even get a little something from her this father's day ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰
