Not all pots go to plan… some are happy accidents and some… well…look better with a few flowers in them…
I had a pot give-away at the beginning of lock down… some said I should raise money for charity but sometimes charity begins at home and I felt everyone needed a little lift… a gift. Many of my ‘sh*tty pots’ found lovely new homes and don’t feel so ‘sh*tty’ anymore.
Next weekend I will be having another clear out of my pots… but I will be asking for some small payments, funds raised will go to charity…
I will join my sister Jess .barn.nursery next weekend for the open nursery weekend.

You will be able to to purchase some beautiful plants nurtured by Jess with the help of our mum… who is chief of slug police!!
Judith of will also be offering her delicious wares also raising funds for charity… so you can enjoy guilt free cake!!
Hope to see you there

A second bird bath... this one is for my mum.. during making I turned the slab built piece upside to attach the base, the piece was a bit too soft still but I went with it letting it bow and slump, which when turned back on itself is convex which helps to keep the piece shallower. I poured and swilled the silky black glaze.. where it missed I filled in with the bronze. These two glazed play nicely together. I made pebbles and a little perch for the birds too.

When I’m not totally happy with a pot I offer it up for a reglaze... not many of them turn out quite as successfully as this one.... wish I’d taken a before photo... I layered the opal glaze over the unsuccessful cobalt crystal glaze... I wasn’t expecting this soft yellow tone but I’ll take it... the base is the bronze glaze.

So delighted that this third mug has been selected by a friend to give as a gift for Christmas. I’ve not even thought about Christmas yet but if you have family living abroad you have to plan ahead.

Super happy with how this pourer came out of the kiln this morning.... had such a busy day trying to catch up with myself before we go into lockdown that I didn’t get to post it earlier...

John Britt’s ‘Lynnette’s Opal’ from his book
with copper Selsor interior on ES5 fired to 1225C

Well that worked out nicely...
pot thrown by and glazed by me with John Britt’s ‘Lynnette’s Opal’

This little vase looks like it’s been dug up... bronze on reduction clay body in an electric kiln

17/10/2020

New opal glaze working nicely with my bronze.... may need to hold back a bit on the bronze...

16/10/2020

This is the top pot of the firing.... it’s just a tester pot but I am really happy with how the new glaze has reacted with the new clay.
The clay body is but fired in an electric
The glaze is ‘Lynnette’s Opal’ from John Britt’s with the bottom of the pot the glaze is a but too thin but you can see the clay really well, the top has been double dipped. I love the separation of the colour at the junction.

You’ve gotta take the rough with the smooth.... I know I should have mixed up more of this silky black glaze to get a more even dip.... that’ll teach me for taking short cuts.... the dreaded bubbles are back.... maybe some of the pieces weren’t completely dry.... again.... my impatience does get the better of me... but at least I know not all is lost.... they should re-fire just fine... 🤞

The kiln went off on Thursday evening with a glaze firing.... I’ve been trying out different clays with my tried and tested glazes but added a new glaze in the mix too...
I managed to resist opening the kiln late last night for a sneaky peak and waited patiently until this morning....
