Forty-five years ago, eight visionaries from Columbus, Ohio founded the first Major Taylor Cycling Club to honor the pioneering Black cyclist who set numerous world records in the late 1800s. We are excited to celebrate their legacy and the inclusive spirit of Major Taylor,welcoming everyone to join us.

Gear Up for the Major Taylor Convention! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️
The Major Taylor International Cycling Convention is set to unite cycling enthusiasts in Chicago from June 21st to 23rd. Get ready for a memorable gathering filled with the spirit of cycling!

Tonight’s Email: 🌆�Look out for an email later this evening that will not only provide the full agenda and GPS routes for our rides but also answer the questions many of you have asked.

Major Taylor Convention - Friday Schedule (June 21st) - Packed with Details!

Get Rolling at the Major Taylor Village:

Location: 3701 S. King Dr., Chicago (It's the open space off King Drive!)
Opens: 10:00 AM sharp! Come early, get settled, and soak up the atmosphere.
Need-to-Know Info:
Parking and tent setup details will be available at the village.
Rest assured, security will be present throughout the entire event, keeping things safe for everyone.
Ride Options to Kick Off Your Day:

Major Taylor Trail Ride: (Starts at 11:00 AM at the Village)
Choose your adventure! There's a 15-mile route (perfect for a warm-up) or a 30-mile option for those who crave more distance.
One rest stop is planned along the way to keep you fueled.
Don't worry about getting lost - friendly ride marshals and support vehicles will be there to guide you.
Route Details: The official routes are pending city approval to ensure everyone's safety. A map showing both options will be available soon, and downloadable versions will follow.
Be back at the Village by 3:00 PM to relax and refuel for the afternoon.
Hotel to Village:

Staying at the Palmer House Hotel? No problem! We've got you covered. The distance is approximately 4.1 miles if you take Wabash Avenue, or a slightly longer but scenic 5-mile route along the lakefront trail. The choice is yours!
Afternoon Power Up:

Seminars at the Palmer House Hotel (17 E Monroe St, Chicago, IL 60603):
Knowledge is power! Head to the Palmer House for a double dose of seminars starting at 4:00 PM.
Two sessions will run concurrently at both 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, giving you a chance to learn something new.
Bronzeville Tour by Bike:

Ready for a history lesson on two wheels? (Starts at 6:00 PM at the Village)
Join the Friday evening ride for a cruise through Bronzeville, exploring its rich history and iconic landmarks.
This is a relaxed ride, perfect for taking in the sights (and snapping some photos!). Expect the ride to last around 1-1.5 hours.
Palmer House Hotel guests, rejoice! Ride leaders will be available to take you from the hotel to the starting point of the tour.
Unwinding After a Big Day:

Your swag bag won't just be stylish, it'll be informative too! Inside, you'll find a curated list of recommended restaurants and Chicago hotspots to help you unwind and discover the city's vibrant scene. So grab some dinner, listen to some music, and soak up the atmosphere!

What a great day it was for Karen Brown Donovan, the great-granddaughter of Major Taylor, to see the mural commissioned by On The Route Bicycles owner Joanne McSweeney. The mural was painted by renowned Chicago artists Roger Carter and Robert Lewis Clark. The mural will be donated to The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center.
