FOR WONDER FULL PEOPLE :: BTRT is evolving into Mountain Ash Fiber Arts--
with a focus on natural, h

Mountain Ash Fiber Arts (formerly Beneath the Rowan Tree) began in 2007. After many wonder-filled years making artful toys and hand dyed items, we are evolving towards more art and decor. We remain rooted in natural fibers and hand dyed loveliness and look forward to bringing you a bit of our world from the woods of Northern Ontario.

🌟🌟Nativity SALE🌟🌟

$175 CAD + shipping
Message to see specific sets available.

This is the first year in 15 that I have done holiday markets. I have always made to order for online sales. It was a big learning curve, stocking a whole shop without really knowing what to put in it! As a result, I have several nativity sets unclaimed.

As a handmade artisan I rarely do *sales* because my supplies don't fluctuate and it takes me the same time to do each item regardless of price point. BUT, I have these lovelies ready to go, I didn't make them to be stored for a year at my house. 😁

Let's help each other out!
I was retailing for $225 CAD and I would like to offer 4 sets at $175 CAD (+ shipping-- $18ish Canada and US).

❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

✨Are you looking for a safe, educational and hands on Nativity Set for your family?
Would it be even better if it was 100% natural, handmade and lovely to look at, too? ✨

πŸ—ΊοΈA BTRT tradition for 15 years, found in homes around the world!

Your custom-made set will include:

β€’ Mary with Jesus in arms.
β€’ Joseph
β€’ Angel
β€’ Three Wise Men/ Kings
β€’ Two Shepherds
Ranging 3-5" high.

It will come back in a cotton drawstring bag.

{Looking for something smaller? I will be listing 'Holy Family' sets (Mary, Joseph and Baby) later in the season.}

Made from 100% new, clean wool these sets are handmade completely with needle felting.
They are firm to withstand years of play and display, but soft and so touchable!
No frames or wires, mean no risks for toddlers.

All figures stand on their own and wool warms up beautifully in a child's hands for a natural and lively play experience. Children learn best when they can engage the story with their hands, and these pieces give them a chance to hold and imagine the story, and act it out, too. The figures have featureless faces (in the Waldorf tradition) so that children are open to all possibilities of emotion and experience when they play.

Not recommended for children who still mouth their toys (or not without close supervision).

Sets will be delivered no later than November 15th.

READY TO SHIP
Will arrive in time for Christmas, US and Canada.

((Message me and I will send you images of the four available sets.))

Payment by eTransfer or PayPal

Good morning!
I've been working away on some new ideas and skills. I've committed to several holiday markets, which is a new experience for me. And I've been avoiding working on my website because ew. πŸ˜‚

I am always strongly drawn to houses as a motif or symbol. This season it seems, as days get shorter, I am drawn to houses and light. So most of my winter collection I'm preparing revolves around light shining through.

These little houses are made from wool and silk and I love how they look. So simple and warm with with an LED tea light. What do you think?

What's your favorite? Orange or white? I can't decide either!

Each pin is made from layers of wool, silk, and cotton fibers. These layers are felted together by hand and then embellished with machine and hand embroidery, as well as glass beads.
They are backed with hand dyed green felt and a secure locking bar pin.

Each is one of a kind.
Sizes are approximate.

Poppies are for remembrance.
If they are cut back or removed from a garden, they have the ability to lie dormant in the soil until it is disturbed even years later... When they will push through and display their beauty and strength once again.

Hey folks!
After a long break, I'm looking at returning to making things :). I miss it.

Beneath the Rowan Tree was named for my daughter in 2007 (she was two). She is now a remarkable young woman, and at 17, would rather I not use her name... oh, but I love the BTRT legacy. So many friends, so many connections, and fond memories!

As I'm moving more to creating fiber art (rather than artful toys) , and sharing in my local community, BTRT is becoming 🌿Mountain Ash Fiber Arts🌿.

See what I did there? Mountain Ash is the North American version of the Rowan ;) and the teen approves!

I hope you will follow along and see what emerges in this new stage.

(( For the summer, I'm doing a little tie-dye for some local artisan markets ❀️))

I'm tentatively looking at re-opening the shop for November 1. ❀️

I won't be offering custom work at this time, I'm still undecided on that front. I plan to have new art -- prints, cards, postcards... and some ready to ship winter/holiday felted work.

The long version 😁 because it's good to know the people involved, right? And I'm so grateful that some of you have been with me for more than 12 years!

I'm still trying to puzzle out new directions & ways of working, so I appreciate your patience & interest. The demanding nature of custom orders (ok, and customers!) has become difficult for my anxiety, while endless felting is wearing at my joints (I have connective tissue issues and chronic pain). So I need to change things up 😁 Add that Etsy is no longer a good space for the small handmade artist business and my child is in high school (no longer homeschool) and my creative thoughts are less and less in children's things... but several months off hasn't really made a clear path for me. I'm still trying to do art most days and just let myself explore this new season!

But I'm going to start back in with some new things in November and see how it goes! πŸ’š

Eek! September!
Between summer stuff and home renos, I've been working on some art. I'm deep into inspiration by the colours and forms of the natural world.
Here's a peek at a few pieces...

My goal is to re-open the shop this month πŸ’™

09/08/2019

Hey! I hope your summer is going well!! We're dropping into "prep for school" gear as my daughter leaves homeschool for high school in September. I'm aiming for a shop reopening mid-September with some new art and felted faves. I'm on a bit of a geology kick right now, inspired by Rowan's work at Crystal Cave Canada this summer. So many colours in nature!

07/07/2019

I'd love some feedback about how *you* like to buy art... prints (size?)? PDFs? postcards? originals?
If this piece called to you... what format would you prefer to buy it in?

Thank you for your input!
I've made "functional" items for so many years I'm having a hard time getting my head around fine(r) art πŸ€—

21/06/2019

I've been dreaming about Day of the Week cards for years... these will be postcard sized, perfect for your learning space or nature table. πŸ’š
Pen & inks, hand drawn & coloured.

I'm working in a project I've had in mind for years... I just hadn't found my way to the right skills and tools to implement it. I think I've got it now! ❀️

BTRT just celebrated *12 YEARS* as a 100% natural, handmade business.

We are in the midst of lots of changes. This has necessitated the first shop closure in a dozen years, and we're feeling the crunch, even as the break is truly needed to restore our balance. I'm using this downtime to deal with chaotic life stuff, but also re-vision BTRT for the fall -- lots more art!

This is the *last chance* for many of these items I've loved making for so many years.
All are ready to ship.
Prices are up to 70% off.
{{Please read the instructions in the very first image "HOW TO SHOP" for full details.}}

My summer goal is to become a better draw-er and get a handle on watercolours. I looove a new art challenge and I'm looking forward to using some of my felting designs & dyeing chops in new ways on paper & fabric, too.
This is my first original piece emerging from lots of experiments!
What do you think?
