The social justice movement on social media is just another movement that has become white washed and appropriated. It is another outlet that centers white narratives while making white people feel like the “good white person” or “ the woke white person”. A lot of their content and offerings have been co-opted and appropriated from the lived experiences of people in black and brown bodies, which they have used to make a profit and increase their social capital. Often the original black and brown creators are not given credit, and are pushed further into the margins of social justice work as white people continue to center themselves.

Look at your favorite white social media content creators, they most likely have thousands/millions of followers and endorsements. Meanwhile pages of black and brown people are being policed, reported, and targeted by trolls while their work is stolen and repackaged by these top names on social media. It is past time to re-center the voices and narratives of black and brown folx. It is time that black and brown folx are paid for our emotional labor and given due credit for our content. It’s time to pass the mic to people that actually need to be amplified, versus more privileged voices advancing themselves while oppressing others. We challenge you to participate in the “Amplifying Melanated Voices Challenge” this week, and silence the white narrative.

IT’S HERE!!! 🎉Over the past few years, I have been on a journey to first complete a certification as an Ayurvedic Wellness Coach and now an Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC).

In the last 2 1/2 years, I have never felt more in love.

More connected to my body
More accepting of who I innately am
More held by this sisterhood

This pleasure, this acceptance, this awareness, this love.

Ayurveda is about moving from a place of love. This is not about the diet, this is not about the amount of exercise, or herbs, but it is about falling so deeply in love with yourself that you start to make the choices that make you feel so held and in fact deeper in love.

When we tune into this balance, it gives our bodies space to do what it does best, ADAPT! heal, adjust.

I am so grateful for my clients and students it is such a gift to share this wisdom and my oh my this is only the beginning.

In the past 24 hours, it’s come to media attention that Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT, was killed by police. At almost the exact same age and in the same two week span, both and Breonna were killed by senseless anti-black violence. In the middle of the night on March 13 in Louisville, KY, two police officers and one sergeant entered the wrong home without knocking or announcing themselves. They claim they were executing a search warrant for a suspected drug dealer, but this person did not live at Breonna’s address and had actually already been arrested. Breonna’s boyfriend fired a shot when he thought people were trying to break in. The police then fired 20 shots, 8 of which hit and killed Breonna. This is angering and heartbreaking. Breonna selflessly saved many lives as an EMT, only to have hers taken away so senselessly by police violence. May Breonna get justice somehow. Rest in Power, queen. Say her name. Take action now. Hey sweets! I am taking a pause on social media. ⠀

Lately, I have been called to take a major step of surrendering, softening and listening to what is emerging. I have been afraid to step away from the constant stimulus of social media to listen because if I do, I WILL NOT BE IN CONTROL! hah. I am sure there are many who can relate out there. 🙋🏽‍♀️⠀

The more we surrender, the more our truth emerges. When we try to control our lives, we can miss out on life's indescribable beauty. ⠀

Some very incredible A-HA moments are coming up and I am taking time to honor this, spend time in nature, spend time with people in person and be a witness to the magic of listening. Here to be a channel, a vessel so that I can be the best witness and teacher for myself and this incredible community. ⠀

So if you have been hanging around here for a little bit, you know I love to talk about digestion. ⠀

My journey with digestion has not been an easy one, from acid reflux to gas, to constipation and loose stools. NOT FUN! ⠀

Here is the thing, Ayurveda says that digestion is the root of disease, meaning that if our digestion is poor, we can be unable to absorb the nutrients of our food, therefore creating imbalances in the rest of the tissues and systems of the body.⠀

What is the story we tell ourselves daily? What is the story we repeat subconsciously? The brain has this wild ability to believe whatever we think to be true!⠀

So that means when we think we are unworthy, we believe it to be true.⠀
When we think we will always be stuck in a pattern, we believe it to be true.⠀
When we think that we can't find love, we believe it to be true.⠀

I mean really, the list can go on! Somehow our culture has become really good at this. 🤔⠀

So how many of us get caught in our story?🙋🏽‍♀️⠀

The best love we can give ourselves is awareness. Awareness of what is real, what is true, what are the stories, and what is coming from a place of wholeness. ⠀

When I am caught in a spiral, I ask myself, is this coming from the highest version of myself (what I love to call, BIG SELF) or from the lowest version of myself (little self). ⠀

More times than not, it is coming from the little self and I ask myself, what would BIG Malia do? How would she act, how would she process, how would she feel?⠀

So, friend, move through your story and ask yourself, "What would BIG me do?" comment below so we can lift each other up! ❤️

What is Ayurveda REALLY about? 🧐You may have learned a little about Ayurveda, you may have a list of foods that are supportive to you, you may have just scratched the surface. But in reality, beyond the diet, beyond the doshas, beyond the yummy oil massages, Ayurveda is about, ⠀

RADICAL 👏 SELF 👏 LOVE!⠀

The love that is so strong that you begin to make choices to support your body from that place of LOVE! Not because someone says you should, or you think you should, but because there is a part of you that just KNOWS what you need. That is radical self-love, awareness, and truth of what you need.⠀

My sweet, this weekend we are strengthening your intuitive listening skills, returning to the foundations of Ayurveda in truth and uncovering your wild ability to radically love yourself.⠀

G O I N G : I N W A R D ⠀

Oh woman! Do you feel all of these energetic shifts? I do! 😬And let me tell you, it has not been the most comfortable. ⠀

Lately, I have been feeling an immense need to go inward, to be quiet, to process, and to allow emotions that have been blocked, come to surface. ⠀

At times when the rules of life get a handle of us, it can be challenging to surrender to going inward! ⠀
What will happen if I don't show up? ⠀
What will happen if I take space for myself? ⠀
Will people still be there to listen? ⠀
Will my loved ones still be around?⠀
The answer to all of this: LIFE HAPPENS!⠀

For me, this has not always been easy, to let go, listen and allow life to happen. To shift from control and lead with love and surrender. When I am feeling this tightening, I ask myself, what am I holding on to and why? What is my belief that I need to keep showing up even though I know I need space? Loving inquiry. ⠀

The truth of you starts to happen. During this retrograde, it is an incredible time to go inward, get creative, trust deeply what life is trying to show you and listen to your heart. No one is going to know what you need more than you do. ⠀

Be soft, listen, take it easy. Some practices that have been incredibly valuable for me are in the Wild Wisdom Membership. Give yourself this space to go inward.⠀

Oh my sweet love of fennel, this cooling veg is AMAZING for this heat that has stormed over Los Angeles. Try grilling or adding to a sandwich. I love to use the fennel fronds as garnish or to chop up finely and put in ANYTHING!

REAL TALK! I have always had digestive issues.⠀

I remember in high school, having acid reflux after every meal and just thought I was going to experience that for the rest of my life. In college, added on immense stomach cramps, gas, irregular bowel movements and that pretty much continued through the years. ⠀


I figured, "well, body, I guess this is the norm!"⠀


So there I was with daily discomfort, good ol’ Malia with the digestive issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️⠀

The start of this digestive wake up call journey was when my voice teacher asked if I had acid reflux because it might be the harm that was being heard in my voice.⠀

She asked if I would consider eliminating coffee from my diet and at that moment that seemed like the scariest thing I had heard.⠀

NO COFFEE?!?! 😫⠀

But at that moment, I cared about my voice, and very slowly I weened off of coffee. When that happened I noticed that my acid reflux reduced IMMENSELY! It was the first time I realized that wasn’t normal. ⠀

Years had passed still having discomforts and it wasn’t until I learned about Ayurveda that really changed having “good” days and “bad” days, to having an understanding of how to listen to my body and know what it needed.⠀

All of these symptoms were signs that there were other imbalances in my body.⠀

In Ayurveda, the first sign of disease in the digestive system, in the colon, the small intestines, in the stomach and any disturbance is our body saying “hellooo!!! look at me!! listen to me!!!” ⠀

The amazing thing is that in Ayurveda we learn how to pacify these symptoms and imbalances!! YAHOO!! 🥳⠀

This changed my view of my life. Instead of being a bystander, following the path of my life, I had the choice to listen to what it needs. What I need.⠀

These flowers were from a recent trail hike with a sweet soul sister. We stopped every 5 minutes or so awing the flowers! We dressed our hair with flowers and it was just magical. Now they have died but still smell incredible and give me this little joy remembering that magic! ✨
