The boys' soccer squad had a very busy weekend as they hosted the ADM Invitational Tournament. On a chilly and windy Friday evening they played Glenwood in a very close and tense contest. Unfortunately Glenwood scored the only goal of the game with 15 minutes left to play. Skyler Hammers played very well in the Tigers' goal. On Saturday morning the Tigers played a Van Meter side which featured a number of former team mates. This was also a tense, closely contested match. With twelve minutes left to play the Tigers broke the deadlock when Carson Kay bulleted home a powerful header from a fine Rhylan Stine Smith corner. Dylan Ingram kept the clean sheet in the Tigers' goal. In the Tigers third game of the tournament they played a very well drilled and experienced Des Moines East side. Unfortunately the Tigers lost 0-8. The varsity is now 2-3.

On Monday evening the boys' soccer squad made the short trip to Perry. In the JV game, the Tigers played well and were unfortunate not to score in a rather entertaining scoreless draw. Owen Evans and Skyler Hammers shared the shutout in the ADM goal. The varsity game was a close, fast paced contest. In the twentieth minute of the first half, Perry's Abraham Ruiz scored with a powerful shot from all of thirty yards. Eight minutes later the Bluejays were awarded a very questionable penalty and Ruiz stepped up and scored again. Thus the halftime score was 2-0 to the Bluejays. In the second half, the Tigers dominated possession and created numerous good goal-scoring opportunities. These included hitting the bar and forcing Cornelio in the Perry goal to make several good saves. With six minutes left to play, Owen Kirk won the ball in the center circle and swiftly sent a long pass through to the running Peyton Meier. Peyton lobbed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and into the net. This led to a frantic last few minutes, but unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to score again and the final result was 2-1 in Perry's favor. The Tigers are now 1-1 and next play in the Tiger Invitational Tournament against Glenwood on the ADM Stadium at 8pm on Friday eve.

After a rousing send off at the school, including a police es**rt out of Adel, the Tigers took on the Pella Dutch at Cownie in the state tournament on Tuesday.
The game started at a fast pace and ADM took the lead after just two minutes.
The goal followed a quick throw in from Zaine Madren to Peyton Meier.
Peyton hit a long diagonal pass to Jacob Yanacheak.
Jacob quickly outpaced his defender, drove to the end line and then slid a cross into the six yard box.
Josh Pike immediately pounced and quickly drove the ball low into the right corner of the goal.
What a great way to start the game!
The goal quickly settled the Tigers and they were able to enjoy quite a bit of possession and to create several more scoring opportunities.
However, Pella gradually worked their way into the game, and Logan Krantz was the busier of the two keepers as the first half came to a close.
The second half began with the Dutch enjoying much more of the possession and they eventually equalized in the forty eighth minute.
This appeared to galvanize the Tigers and they quickly created three good scoring opportunities.
The game momentum then appeared to switch back and forth with neither team able to break the deadlock.
Then in the sixty second minute Logan Krantz's long clearance found the speeding Jacob Yanacheak.
Jacob shook off his defender and raced to the end line.
Once again he drove the ball low and hard into the penalty box and again Josh Pike speedily fired it low into the net.
That score then set up a hectic ten minute spell as both teams attempted to score again.
Then it was down to good game management on the Tigers part as they worked to keep possession and prevent the Dutch from threatening Logan's goal.
The game ended as a fine and entertaining 2-1 win to the Tigers.
ADM are now 15-4 and take on first seed Xavier on Thursday at 2:30pm on the main stadium at Cownie.

On Wednesday evening the ADM boys' varsity soccer squad played a tense and entertaining substate final against a very fast, physical and hard working Creston squad and eventually deservedly won 2-0.

The details:
The game started out at a very fast pace with both teams creating early scoring opportunities.
However, the Tigers enjoyed more of the ball and eventually opened the scoring after eight minutes when Peyton Meyer fired a long cross field pass to Jacob Yanacheak wide on the right wing.
Jacob immediately raced to the end line and then cut the ball back to the in-rushing Josh Pike.
Josh coolly tucked the ball into the lower right corner of the goal. A good team goal and definitely typical of the Tigers usual means of scoring.
As the game wore on the Tigers grew in confidence and enjoyed plenty of possession and consequently forced their opponents to defend during much of the remainder of the first half.
The second half opened with a flurry of chances for the Tigers.
And within two minutes they went further ahead.
Chase Grove started the scoring move with a smart throw in to Josh Pike.
Josh rounded a defender and then touched the ball on to Jacob Yanacheak who held off an opponent as he fired a powerful shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Another fine goal from ADM's two most potent players.
The Panthers then spent the remainder of the second half chasing the ball while the Tigers' defense did a fine job of maintaining possession and managing the game.
A well deserved win for the hard working Tigers' squad.
A fifth consecutive shut out for Logan Krantz and his eleventh of the season.
Now it is on to the state tournament where we will play Pella at Cownie on Tuesday at 2:40pm.
Go Tigers!!!!!

The boys' soccer squad started substate play on Monday evening with a fine 3-0 victory over perennial foe Glenwood.

The details: the game started out at a fast pace and the Tigers were quick to create scoring opportunities. ADM deservedly took the lead after just nine minutes when Josh Pike sent a delightful cross field pass to the speeding Jacob Yanacheak. Jacob drove to the end line and then fired a slide-rule pass to Wade Forret on the edge of the six yard box. Wade had the easiest of tasks tapping the ball into the empty net at the far post. A precision move. After that Glenwood came more into the game and Caden Johnson caused the Tigers' defense a number of problems. However, in the thirty third minute ADM were awarded a free kick in the center circle. Zach Schippers well flighted kick dropped in front of Jacob Yanacheak. Jacob quickly out ran the opposing defense and calmly tucked the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net. Thus the halftime score was 2-0 to the Tigers. The second half opened much like the first half with the Tigers controlling the tempo of the game and creating good scoring opportunities. Josh Pike was thwarted by both the post and Casey Godbout in the Rams goal. Then the Rams gradually began to assert more control of the game and Logan Krantz was probably the busier of the two 'keepers. Slightly against the run of play the Tigers added a third goal in the fifty third minute. Peyton Meier's long cross was expertly headed high into the Glenwood goal by Jacob Yanacheak. After that the Tigers did a nice job of managing the game and were definitely deserved winners.
The tenth ranked varsity are now 13-4 and take on Creston at 6:30pm on Wednesday on the ADM Stadium.

The boys' soccer squad had a very successful and goal laden weekend.
On Friday evening they traveled to Carlisle. The varsity and the JV both won 3-0.

The JV traveled to the Ankeny tournament on Saturday and defeated Mason City 7-0 and then Des Moines East 1-0.

The details:
The Tigers warmed up a damp and chilly Friday evening with two very comfortable 3-0 victories. In the JV game the Tigers opened the scoring midway through the first half when Colin Post pushed the ball forward to Rhylan Stine-Smith. Rhylan waltzed past two defenders and then squeezed the ball into the net off the far post. The second goal came mid way through the second half when Ethan Book raced down the right wing before cutting the ball back to Chase Simmons who touched it on to the unmarked Owen Kirk. Owen drove the ball powerfully beyond the helpless goalkeeper and into the center of the goal. The young Tigers completed the scoring six minutes later when Dylan Ingram rose high to head home a well placed corner from Rhylan Stine-Smith.

The varsity game started out as a very even and closely contested affair with scoring opportunities created at both ends of the pitch. Kaden Baxter in the Carlisle goal pulled off two fine saves to thwart Dylan Anderson and Josh Pike, and Logan Krantz had to look lively to keep his goal intact. Gradually ADM began to stamp their authority on the game and they finally took the lead in the 20th minute when Peyton Meier's well struck corner kick was headed down and in by Josh Pike. Six minutes later Peyton was cruelly felled in the penalty area. He picked himself up and calmly drove the resulting penalty into the bottom left corner of the goal. The Tigers then dominated possession and finished the first half well in control. The second half started with a flurry of chances for the Wildcats and Logan Krantz in the ADM goal was by far the busier keeper. The Tigers weathered this pressure and gradually regained control of the game. With only four minutes left they cemented their victory with a fine third goal. Nathan Pfiffner won the ball in the center circle and quickly lobbed it behind the opposing defense. Jacob Yanacheak raced in, beat the goalkeeper to the ball and calmly drove it into the empty net. A fine end to a great evening's play with Logan Krantz keeping his eighth clean sheet of the season. The tenth ranked varsity are now 11-4.

The JV squad finished the weekend activities with a successful trip to the Ankeny tournament. In the opening game ADM easily defeated Mason City 7-0. The first goal came after just three minutes when Ethan Book won the ball on the half way line and quickly played it to Peyton Meier. Peyton's quick cross field pass picked out Rhylan Stine-Smith on the edge of the box, and Rhylan's deft chip found the net off the back post. The second goal came six minutes later when Owen Kirk and Rhylan Stine-Smith played a slick give and go and then released Peyton Meier. Peyton waltzed round two defenders before tucking the ball into the goal off the left hand post. Peyton scored the third goal just before half time when he stripped the ball from a defender, ran into the box and then calmly fired the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal. The second half was much like the first with the Tigers doing a good job of maintaining possession and creating scoring opportunities. The fourth goal came ten minutes into the second half when Owen Kirk's diagonal pass found Matthew Lee on the left wing. Matthew cut inside and fired a powerful shot which the goalkeeper failed to hold and the ball eventually squirmed into the goal. The fifth goal was scored by Tom Hook when he exchanged passes with Mason Tolari before powering the ball high into the goal. Ethan Book set up the sixth goal with a long cross field pass to Chase Simons. Chase touched the ball back into the six yard box and Mason Tolari was quick to drive the ball home. The final goal was scored just four minutes from time when Peyton Meier swept down the right wing before cutting the ball back to Mason Tollari who immediately bundled the ball into the net. Dylan Ingram kept the clean sheet in the Tigers' goal.
The final game of the weekend was a fast and feisty affair against a much more experienced Des Moines East squad. The young Tigers scored early and then showed lots of discipline as they managed the game out. The only goal of the game was scored after five minutes when Carson Kay and Owen Kirk played a quick give and go before slipping the ball through to Peyton Meier. Peyton took a touch and then swiftly drove the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Skylar Hammers kept the clean sheet and the JV are now 8-3-1.

On a chilly but pleasant Tuesday evening the boys' soccer squad hosted Ballard on their senior night.
The JV played well and comfortably won 1-0, while the varsity were always in control and, despite some wasteful finishing, easily won 7-0.

The details:
In the shortened JV game the Tigers scored in the fifth minute and never allowed the opposition to threaten their goal. The solitary goal followed a fine left wing run by Rhylan Stine-Smith. Rhylan weaved past two opponents before crossing the ball into the penalty box. From there Skyler Hammers first timed the ball high into the net. Dylan Ingram had the shut out in the Tigers' goal and the JV squad are now 5-3-1.

In the varsity game all eleven seniors started the game and played for the majority of the game. The Tigers set a fast tempo from the beginning and created multiple, good goal scoring opportunities. In fact the shot total for the game was 38. However, as a result of some good goalkeeping together with rather poor shooting, it took until the twentieth minute for ADM to open the scoring. Jacob Yanacheak set up the opening goal when he sped past his defender and then skillfully cut the ball back to the in rushing Zaine Madren. Zaine then fired a powerful first time shot low into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Three minutes later the Tigers won a corner on the right side of the field. Zaine Madren's measured cross from the corner was powered goal wards by Josh Pike. The opposing goalkeeper could only punch the ball out and Josh leapt high to head the rebound back over the goalkeeper and into the top left of the goal. That completed the scoring in the first half. The second half began much like the first with ADM again enjoying plenty of possession and firing multiple shots on goal. The Tigers went further ahead in the fiftieth minute when Peyton Meier ran onto Wade Forret's deft diagonal pass. Peyton stepped inside his opponent before driving the ball hard into the opposite corner of the goal. Five minutes later ADM scored again when Ryan Sullivan won the ball in his own half and quickly passed the ball down the line to the speeding Jacob Yanacheak. Jacob's looping cross was then driven into the net by Payton Meier. ADM's fifth goal followed a slick give and go between Wade Forret and Josh Pike. Wade finished off the stylish move with a powerful shot high into the left side of the goal. Four minutes later the Tigers were awarded yet another corner on the right hand side. Zaine Madren and Peyton Meier worked a delightful short corner which resulted in a well struck cross from Peyton. Josh Pike then leapt high to drive a spectacular header well beyond the helpless goalkeeper. The final goal resulted from a fine through ball from Peyton Meier to Josh Pike. Josh swept beyond two defenders before cutting the ball back to Jacob Yanacheak. Jacob immediately tucked the ball under the goalkeeper and into the net. Logan Krantz celebrated his seventh shut out in the Tiger goal. All in all, a satisfactory display, but we will have to improve our finishing as the season progresses towards substate. There are tough games ahead. The seventh-ranked varsity is now 10-4 and next play at Carlisle on Friday evening.

The boys' soccer squad had a tough time hosting Bondurant-Farrar last night. In two very close competitive games, the JV lost 0-2 and the varsity lost 0-1.
The details: In the JV game the Tigers started out a little tentatively and fell behind after eight minutes but then started to dominate possession and dictate play. The first half finished with the young Tigers' squad well on top. In the second half ADM continued to enjoy more possession than their opponents but unfortunately again lost a goal and ended up losing a very close game 0-2. Skyler Hammers had another good game in goal for the young Tigers who are now 3-3-1
The varsity game followed a similar pattern to the JV game. The Tigers, unfortunately, lost a goal in the third minute of play and, despite out possessing and outshooting their opponents, they were unable to pull a goal back. Logan Krantz again played well in the Tigers' goal and the varsity is now 9-4. The next games are on Tuesday, May 11th when we host Ballard.

On a very pleasant Tuesday evening the boys' soccer squad hosted North Polk at Island Park.

The JV played well and comfortably won 3-1, and the varsity were always in control and won 4-0. The details: The JV fell behind after just five minutes of play but recovered and gradually began to control the game. Mid way through the first half Ryhlan Stine-Smith was clumsily knocked down close to edge of the penalty box. Owen Kirk calmly stepped up and powerfully drilled the resulting free kick into the bottom right corner of the goal. The opposing goalkeeper did not even get a chance to move. Five minutes into the second half the Tigers took the lead when Alex Venn dispossessed an opponent and lobbed the ball into the penalty box. Mason Tollari met the ball first time and quickly drove it beyond the goalkeeper and into the goal. The Tigers completed the scoring with twelve minutes to play when Skyler Hammers pressured the opposing goalkeeper and the ball broke to Alex Venn. Alex speedily hooked the ball first time into the gaping net. A fine, well deserved win for the rapidly improving young JV squad who are now 3-2.

The varsity game was a physical, fast paced affair. ADM opened the scoring in the third minute when the Comets' goalkeeper spilled an awkward Josh Pike shot. Jacob Yanacheak was first to the resulting loose ball and quickly bundled it into the empty net. Three minutes later the Tigers scored again when Jacob Yanacheak attacked down the left wing, got behind his opponent and deftly cut the ball back to Nathan Pfiffner. Nathan took one touch before curling the ball beyond the opposing defense and into the top right hand corner of the goal. A terrific and inspiring finish. Mid way through the first half ADM scored a third when Peyton Meier slipped the ball through to Josh Pike on the edge of the penalty box. Josh cheekily back heeled the ball behind the advancing goalkeeper and Zaine Madren raced into to tap the ball into the gaping empty goal. In the second half the Tigers enjoyed plenty of ball possession and created several good goal scoring opportunities but failed to add to the scoring until the 76th minute. Then Zach Schippers and Owen Kirk exchanged passes before Owen slipped the ball beyond the Comet's defense and Zack confidently drove the ball high into the top right hand corner of the goal. A good finish to a fine game for the 7-2 and seventh ranked varsity.

The boys' soccer squad had a successful, goal laden trip to Carroll onFriday evening.

The JV won 4-1 and the varsity won 5-0.

The details:
The JV played very well against a much bigger and more physical. Carroll squad. Matthew Lee set up the opening goal when he beat his opponent to the ball and sent a long pass forward to Tom Hook. Tom took a touch and then slipped the ball between two opponents to the speedy Rhylan Stine-Smith who outran two other defenders before calmly driving the ball home. The second goal was set up by a fine diagonal pass from Owen Kirk to Tate Hook. Tate then held off his defender before slipping the ball under the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net. The third goal followed a clumsy foul on Rhylan Stine-Smith at the edge of the opposing penalty area. Owen Kirk stepped up and expertly fired the ball into the top left postage stamp corner of the goal. A very fine strike. The final goal came after a fine Alex Venn corner. The ball broke to Matthew Lee who swiftly lobbed it over the goalkeeper and into the empty net. Carroll did score a consolation goal with three minutes left to play Skyler Hammers had a fine game in the ADM goal and the JV are now 2-1.

In the varsity game ADM had lots of ball possession and rarely allowed their opponents to seriously threaten the Tigers' goal. Josh Pike open the scoring in the second minute when he carefully drilled a free kick into the bottom right corner of the goal. Jacob Yanacheak added a second goal eight minutes later following good interplay between Peyton Meier and Josh Pike. One minute later the Tigers were three ahead after Dylan Anderson delivered a precise cross field pass to Chase Grove. Chase touched the ball past a defender before cleverly passing it inside to Zaine Madren on the edge of the six yard box. Zaine immediately drilled it below the goalkeeper and into the empty net. Five minutes before half time the Tigers added a fourth goal when Josh Pike was cruelly brought down in the penalty box. Zach Schippers calmly stepped up and drove the resulting penalty kick high to the right of the helpless goalkeeper.
Thus the half time score was 4 - 0. ADM then completely dominated possession in the second half but some wasteful finishing resulted in only one further goal. The final goal followed a powerful shot by Wade Forret which the goalkeeper failed to hold onto. Josh Pike was first to the loose ball and calmly lobbed it over the goalkeeper and under the bar. A good win but there will be tougher tests ahead. Logan Krantz had the shutout in the Tigers' goal.
The seventh ranked varsity are now 6-2 and host North Polk at Island Park on Tuesday.

The boys' varsity soccer team had a fruitful trip to Nevada on Tuesday.
The Tigers won an exciting encounter with the sixth ranked, and previously undefeated, Nevada Cubs 2-1 in overtime.
The details:
ADM started the game rather tentatively and gave the initiative to their opponents who scored the opening goal after just five minutes of play. The Tigers then slowly worked their way into the game and did finish the first half strongly. The second half began with ADM dictating the pace and creating chances. Owen Freeman in the Nevada goal was forced to make several good saves. However, it was not until four minutes from time that the Tigers finally equalized. The goal followed a long flowing passing move involving Carson Kay, Wade Forret and Jacob Yanacheak. Jacob drove the ball to the end line and then crossed it low and hard into the six yard box. Josh Pike was first to the ball and swiftly slid it into the gaping net.The goal certainly inspired the Tigers and when overtime started they quickly forced the Cubs to defend in their own half. The winning goal followed a series of corners. The ball was eventually cleared out to Peyton Meier on the right wing. Peyton did a nice job of skillfully controlling the ball on his chest and then firing in a long looping cross to the back post. There, Josh Pike leapt highest and powerfully headed the ball down and into the goal. A goal worthy of winning any game, and an exciting end to a very close contest. Logan Krantz had another fine game in the Tigers' goal.
The varsity are now 5-2 and travel to Carroll on Friday.

The boys' soccer squad had a tough time hosting DCG on Friday evening.

The JV lost 0-3 and the varsity lost 1-3.
The details:
In the JV game, the young Tigers' squad tried hard and played well but was overpowered by the older and more experienced Mustangs. Dylan Ingram had a steady game in the Tigers' goal.

The varsity game was a tense, fast-paced affair with both teams working hard to maintain possession of the ball and to create scoring opportunities. Both goalkeepers were kept very busy. Unfortunately, mid-way through the first half, the Tigers appeared to lose their focus, and three defensive errors in an eight-minute spell led to goals for the second-ranked Mustangs. In the second half, the Tigers quickly regained their composure and took the game to their opponents. The Tigers enjoyed much the better possession and managed to create multiple good goal-scoring opportunities. In particular, Josh Pike and Wade Forret were both denied goals when powerful shots from each of them struck the post. Then with 15 minutes left Wade split the opposing defense with a quick through pass. Josh raced in and neatly tucked the ball into the far right corner of the net. There was then a flurry of other chances. However, the Tigers, unfortunately, failed to score again. A disappointing result, but a good second-half performance gives the Tigers something positive to build on.

The next games are at sixth-ranked Nevada on Tuesday.

The Tigers take on DCG tonight at Tiger Stadium!

14/04/2021

The boys' soccer squad had a very successful trip to Gilbert on Monday evening. The JV played extremely well and comfortably won 2-1. The varsity maintained their recent form and defeated the second-ranked Gilbert Tigers 1-0.

> The details:
The relatively young and inexperienced Tigers' JV squad started a little nervously against their bigger and more experienced opponents. However, they worked hard to keep possession and rarely allowed Gilbert to create any kind of scoring opportunity.
ADM opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Dylan Ingram's well-flighted free-kick was headed on by Rhylan Stine-Smith to the speedy Tom Hook. Tom took one touch before crossing the ball to the far post where it was quickly driven high into the net by Tate Hook. A well-constructed score. Halfway through the second half, the Tigers clinched the victory when Sawyer Broyles slipped the ball between two defenders to the speeding Rhylan Stine-Smith. Rhylan pushed the ball beyond his opponent, raced forward, and coolly slipped the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Unfortunately, the Tigers lost a rather sloppy goal in the last minute, but the win was certainly well deserved. Skylar Hammers did a fine job in the Tigers' goal and the JV is a very creditable 2-0.

In the varsity game, the ADM Tigers relied on their ability to keep possession and to move the ball quickly. They did not allow their higher-ranked opponents to settle on the ball, or to dictate the pace of the game. This was certainly a very assured performance by our sixth-ranked Tigers. The only goal of the game came eight minutes into the second half. Dylan Anderson lobbed a beautiful diagonal pass out to Jacob Yanacheak on the left-wing. Jacob sped past his defender and raced to the end line before striking a perfect cross into the six-yard box. Josh Pike met the cross and calmly tapped it into the net. Another well-constructed score. The blustery wind did present a challenge to both teams. However, despite this difficulty, ADM was definitely much more accomplished at keeping possession and moving the ball quickly to thwart their opponents. A well-deserved win. Logan Krantz kept his 4th clean sheet of the season and the Tigers are now 4-1. But other stern challenges lie ahead.

The next games are against third-ranked DCG at home on Friday.
