Taworri Working Kelpies
Showing my working dogs in their day to day lives.
Taworri Tai.
Dropped these few out to there paddock and used the opportunity to give Tai a bit of work on non trainer sheep.
She handled them pretty well seems to be a bit hesitant with going all the way round on the clockwise side at times but when she does seem to head fairly cleanly both ways.
Pretty happy with how she it progressing and maturing. Have just started to use her around the farm for a few small jobs around the place.
Got the opportunity to work Ramulam kick and nap on some cattle over the weekend.
Nap (second video) has worked cattle before and here was being used to encourage another dog to work as well.
However Ramulam kick before this had never seen/worked cattle before and as you can tell by the first part of the video he was a bit lost as to what was meant to be happening but with a bit of encouragement and persistence he switched onto the cattle and started working them.
I was pretty happy with how he went about it for his first time as well showing strength/confidence to come in a move the cattle around.
Thanks to StockDogs WA for inviting me down, I had a good time working a few hounds and helping others to train a few of there’s.
Also thanks to James Carr from Shimmy Downs Kelpies for hosting us and allowing us to work his sheep and cattle through out the day.
Ramulam Luna getting around a few strays.
Luna is ear tagged for breeding when she comes in season to Ramulam kick.
At this stage there won’t be any pups available due to forward bookings already.
Fresh start this morning!! There is a dog out there!
Got some training in today the weather wasn’t great but got a break in the rain.
Pups are now 8 months old and I starting to put a bit more pressure on with implementing sides now.
Still a ways to go but happy with how they are progressing.
I don’t like to put a lot on to fast it’s a progress building the relationship along the way.
First video is taworri Lulu my brothers pup that I’m getting started for him.
She’s a pretty confident bitch pup clockwise is here no preferred side but will work on that as we progress.
Second video is taworri tai at the start there she blocked me out a bit hence the extra the pressure at the start of the video.
Her preferred side is clockwise.
I’m happy with both at this stage obviously lots to work on still but I think both will make good work dogs as they mature out and grow.
Bring the ewe lambs in to draft up.
3300 head in this lot.
Ramulam Luna, Ramulam kick and the bosses you g dog in the paddock and the bosses older 2 in the laneway.
Everyone
Dogs all having a run around the dam.
Showed the pups some sheep today happy with how they are progressing all showing some nice work in there and different personalities and traits coming through.
1st video is jerry sired by tumutvally Roy x station bred bitch
2nd is taworri Lulu sired by nap x ramulam Nala
3rd is taworri tai sired by nap x ramulam Nala
Moving a mob of ewes this afternoon.
I’d initially dropped Ramulam Luna and Ramulam kick out to start mobbing them up but they where fairly strung out so dropped nap out up the other end of the mob and left him to it.
When we got to the gate out of the first paddock I couldn’t see nap but continue on for a bit then once things wjere going along with the mob I’ve ducked back to other paddock to see if I could find him which is when I seen some dust of the crest of a rise drove over to see what it was and found nap with a little mob he’d some how found on his own away from the main lot and had been bring them along slowly behind me.
Never seses to amaze me what these dogs can do on there own accord!!
Mustering the wethers this afternoon.
Attended the Australian yard dog championships over the past week.
Was great to put faces to names I’ve seen on Facebook trialing pages and the such.
Only entered one dog Ramulam kick due to unfortunate circumstances.
Was very happy with how he worked and listened through out the our run.
Unfortunately we where beaten by time right at the end but still ended up with a 60/100 score and an overall placing of 28th out of a field of 104 dogs.
Can’t wait for the next one and hopefully have a few more dogs to enter!!
Good luck to everyone attending the National kelpie field trial this coming week.
A bit late but the last dump of photos/videos from shearing this year.
For those that are asking what happened.
Just when you think things are ticking along nicely! Ramulam Nala has the exact same injury that kick did but I don’t think the tendon is injured hopefully this time but she is certainly sore on it.
Think I’ve found the culprit though will be fixing that ASAP!!
Decided to throw caution to the wind and dropped 5.5 month old Taworri Jax (Ramulam Nala x Nap) out on this mob of ewe lambs that where poking along to see how he would react to more sheep and a mob.
Maybe of liked him to go a bit further to the head on the clock wise side naturally, he kept off his stico ot trying to cut in on a few and seemed lookinu at everything which was good, all in all I didn’t mind his approach for a young pup first time seeing this many sheep on the ground.
Other dog out there is Ramulam kick
Another week of shearing done, tomorrow off for me and the dogs tuen back mustering Sunday for Monday shearing.
Some more moments from the 2024 shearing.
Almost finished the Wether lambs with the ewe lambs to go.
Due to injury and a death in the camp these 3 have had to take the load on them selves.
I often get asked why i have so many dogs (most are still pups) and this is why cause a team of 6 very early go to 3 over night.
Naps on a few days rest with his eye so as to not irate it hopefully he’ll be back soon.
Ramulam kick, Ramulam Nala and ramulam luna have been berry busy and taking a well deserved nap whilst I back line some sheep.
Into shearing this week.
Really missing a certain little red bitch already and it’s only day 4
Ramulam Nala shifting a mob this morning.
I really like how this bitch will pull her self up and observe the mob and seemingly asses where she needs to be instead of constantly forcing.
Showed some pups sheep yesterday.
First video is a pup I’ve gotten of of a mate called jerry.
First time seeing sheep didn’t fully switch on but can see towards the end there he was starting to figure it out, will show him again in a few weeks and see how he develops.
Second video is taworri tai.
Really liking this bitch showing heading, cover and a bit of block but also willing to come onto her stock and move them.
I think she will make a good alrounder as she grows and matures out.
Her brother is showing very similar work though a touch more sticky but I think as he matures he’ll free up a bit and I’ll also keep him moving about so it doesn’t become habit.
Gave a couple pups a look at some sheep yesterday.
First video is a dog pup i got off of a mate, this was his very first look at sheep. Didn’t show heaps at the start but towards the end there could see he was starting to switch on.
Will give another look in a couple weeks
Second video is taworri tai, I’m really liking this young bitch her and her brother I have her are both nice and calm and showing good block and cover on there sheep.
I like how tai covers the sheep the walks in on them to move them I think she’ll make a good alrounder as she matures out.
Nap bring this mob of ewes out the paddock to go onto a pasture paddock and clean up some melons that are coming up.
RIP Wyndora ruby
You’ll be missed in the team as much as you frustrated me at times you where a great dog and good alrounder.
My pocket rocket!
Suspected snake bite.
One of those should really get this on video moments, stubborn suffolk ram vs nap.
You get the picture
Moving the ewe lambs yesterday.
Ramulam Nala working.
