If you need a reminder…YOU MATTER. The promises you make to yourself and just as (if not more) important than the ones you make to others. It is not selfish to care for yourself first. It’s crucial for your well-being.

As we observe Women’s Equal Pay Day today, let’s not forget that this day only applies to white women. BIPOC Women must work much longer into the year to earn the same as their white, non-Hispanic male counterparts. This is not a women’s issue. THIS IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE.

Jealousy and envy are energy and time sucks. Stay focused on being better than YOU were yesterday, last month and last year. That’s how you win the race.

2,977 reasons to never forget.

I can still remember how broken, hopeless and tired I felt. Every morning that I woke up I was heartbroken that I was seeing another day. That was until I began planning my exit. It was well thought out, in a deeply depressed with a side of mania and a dangerous mix of medication and alcohol. I planned every detail down to the outfit and playlist for my memorial. From the moment I started planning it was as if a switch had been flipped and I had found my joy again. Knowing that I had a date set for my death finally gave me something to look forward to. My date was May 26, 2017. I had every detail worked out. I was just waiting for the last day of school when my daughter would be leaving to be with her dad for the summer. In my delusion I thought giving her the summer to heal would be sufficient. While waiting for my death date, I had a friend complete su***de. I got to experience the guilt and sadness of the people left behind. As devastating as it was, that loss saved my life.
I don't share this for sympathy but rather to make it clear I understand that darkness. I understand fighting every day to appear “normal” or “happy” while simultaneously wishes I would stop waking up. I want you to know you are not alone. I want you to know that if your loved one completed su***de, it wasn’t about you as much as the act is devastating to you and everyone they left behind.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Mont In honor of each person that has completed su***de or considered su***de, be kind to others and yourself. If you are struggling, please talk to someone. If you don’t have anyone close that you want to share with, please reach out to via phone, text or social

Did you know?

At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 and passed in 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.” The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. This was the culmination of a massive, peaceful civil rights movement by women that had its formal beginnings in 1848 at the world’s first women’s rights convention, in Seneca Falls, New York. The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.

Here’s to the women who came before us, those of us pushing forward and those coming after us!
