SINGER SONGWRITER WINNER 2022 ANNOUNCED
Nick Paschenda is a psychotherapist and a songwriter from Würzburg, Germany. This award winning song was inspired by a patient who left a deep impression on him. "He was in his last stage of life and was fully aware of it. He made sure that each of his loved ones knew how he felt about them. When he passed away, he left this deep gift as a question: to whom have you not yet expressed your love?". For Nick, songwriting is a way to process all the stories and feelings people share with him. We hope you all enjoy this song as much as we have at the UKSC. Congratulations Nick.

UKSC judge Belle Humble said in one of her interviews,
"Creating music to me is more than just a means of expression because once it’s out it in world that piece of work has the potential to connect with anyone. I believe that music and words have their own power and once we as the creators have done the job, in a sense we have to let that creation go and do it’s thing. The songs are able to take on a life of their own."

: My track is online. Can I link to this??
A: Yes. You can enter it as a song link, instead of uploading an MP3. The track should be publicly available - i.e. it should not be private or on a site where payment, log in or membership is required. NOTE: We do not recommend linking to songs on a platform that has a sample of the song but requires payment or membership to hear the full track as judges may only listen to the sample in this case.

Singer-Songwriter and concert/jazz pianist Younee, from South Korea, was a UKSC Finalist who caught our attention with her song entries. She was invited to London to meet with UKSC directors and record with our producer and judge Richard Niles in his London studio. BBC TV and BBC Radio appearances were soon set up, London gigs were arranged, and a UK tour and a USA tour followed. She also co-wrote an award-winning song with Richard Niles. Younee has since enjoyed a very successful musical career in Korea and Europe and she now lives in Germany where she is very well known and described by the media there as "a musical phenomenon". As Younee says: "It all started with the UKSC".

UKSC judge Stuart Epps said in one of his interviews,
"Being a great singer, songwriter, and musician – if you have all those 3 that’s very, very rare but that’s definitely going to get you somewhere. That’s for sure. If you’re a great singer, songwriter and a great performer that’s when you get the greats.
But also, extremely important and just as important, if not more important, is determination, having an inner strength and a wanting to succeed in the business of music. To have it happen. To make it big. To question everything, really."

: Can songs have more than one writer?
A: Yes. If there is more than one writer, all co-writers should be listed on the entry form in the "Written By:" area, with each name separated by a space and a slash like this - "Name One / Name Two / Name Three etc". An image search on the web will show many examples of co-writers' UKSC Certificates. Co-writers names will appear on certificates and in results exactly as listed. See the Contest Rules (songwritingcontest.co.uk/rules) for more details about co-writers.
