We are pleased to announce that Stacy Maghakian has accepted the position of Interim Principal at Mascenic Regional High School for the 2024-2025 school year, while Dr. Pogorzelski assumes the role of Interim Superintendent of Schools. Ms. Maghakian finished the second part of the year at MRHS as assistant principal. A huge thank you to those who were on the interview committee and contributed to this important decision. We are grateful for the continuity during this transition to the new school year!
Education has been a cornerstone of Mrs. Maghakianâs personal and professional journey. In addition to growing up in a home with both parents in education, she herself has been in education for almost three decades. Her roles varied from a tutor, classroom teacher, substitute, coach, paraprofessional, custodian, volunteer, mentor, and administrator. She considers herself a lifelong learner and is eager to continue her journey as a part of the Mascenic Community. She currently resides in Milford with her two young daughters and enjoys reading, gardening, decorating, and spending time with friends and family.
In the next few weeks, Ms. Maghakian will convene a team to interview assistant principal candidates.
We look forward to the 2024-2025 school year!
To say Mike Smith has made a significant impact on our students and athletes is an understatement. Thank you for 25 years and for the legacy of Mascenic athletics you are leaving behind.
Mike Smith is retiring after 25 years of coaching cross country, indoor track and field, and spring track and field. He made Mascenic Cross country a power house in Div 3, winning 10 state championships (boys cross country has won 8 state championships and girls cross country 2 state championships) plus many individual track championships.
When the new elementary school was being built, Mike worked with Hutter to plan and create a cross country course that is utilized for the Viking 5K, our home Cross country course and used by many community members. He also helped start the running club in the elementary school that has introduced hundreds of kids to running. He also provided opportunities for athletes to compete in the Junior Olympics locally, regionally, and at the national level.
He can often be found working on maintaining the cross country course during the summer months. He has Significantly impacted the running community in the region including the Monday night Grinder, Thursday Night Viking runs and track workouts. other community running events and the Viking 5K.
He also has been an active member of the NHIAA track and field, and can be heard commentating on NH cross country and track and field broadcasts.
We canât thank Mike enough for all his dedication to Mascenic Cross Country and Track Athletes. He has won more state championships than any coach at Mascenic and we wish him well in retirement. đ¤
