Junior Master Gardeners, Matt & Luca, supported our local agriculture community & our school garden by participating in opening day for the Euharlee Farmers Market. The boys will be tending to the school garden over the summer and making sure nothing goes to waste, while also raising funds for next school year’s new crop of Grow Getters!

Please join us in celebrating six hard-working students who “dug” deeper into agricultural education this school year. Along with intense, hands-on lessons, they also had homework and had to complete community projects along the way. In addition, these kiddos have been working together to design an outdoor learning space. Stay tuned next year to see what they come up with! Congratulations to our first official Junior Master Gardeners!

We ended the 23-24 school year with a garden feast! Ms. Shirley and Ms. Carol treated us so well! Thank you Ms. Shirley for making a memory book for our students and always making sure that we have the best experience! Thank you to Ms. Autry, Ms. Valerie, Ms. Dana, and Mr. Mike for all the hands-on help throughout the year, from your smile to being on your knees next to a student.

Gardeners, take all that you’ve learned and get your hands dirty. Help your families get their hands dirty too! 🪴

We want to say a huge thank you to the Woodland High School construction class and the Bartow County Farm Bureau for making it possible for all students to access our initiatives. WHS students did a fantastic job building our new wheel-chair accessible garden bed!

With the help of Ms. Shirley, our Junior Master Gardeners:
🫛analyzed vegetables for color, texture, and taste
🥦analyzed seed packets to determine whether certain vegetables were cold season or warm season crops
🥒described how to know when certain vegetables are ready to harvest
🥬analyzed food labels for nutrients.

Our Master Gardener volunteers, Shirley Andrews, Mary Ellen Edwards, and Carol Ferguson, prepared a fruit 🍎 frenzy for our Junior Master Gardeners this week.

Students explored color, shape, size, and quantity of each fruit and its seeds, along with a taste test 🤤. They finished the afternoon by making pomanders 🍊 that smelled amazing!

Thank you ladies!!!

Our Junior Master Gardeners have been busy with winter planting and our Grow Getters have been busy with spring sowing. Check out all the hard work!

Huge thanks to our Bartow Master Gardeners Association for broccoli, Brussels sprouts, & kale, and thanks to Sims Bark Co. for mulch! We couldn’t do this without our partners and volunteers!

THANK YOU for donating your water💧 jugs for our winter sowing project. Our gardeners sowed flowers 🌺 , greens 🥬 , and cruciferous vegetables 🥦 ! We’ll keep you updated on their success.

You’ll also notice that we’re working on adding mulch to the garden in an attempt to lessen maintenance around the beds, and to help lower soil temperatures this summer.

Our gardeners are going to try winter sowing this year and we are in need of clear gallon jugs. You can drop them off at EHES or give them to April West in person. Thank you for your support!

Ms. Shirley prepared an insectuous snack for our Junior Master Gardeners where students drank from a proboscis like a butterfly🦋, soaked up their food like a fly🪰, and used tweezers to pick up food like a beetle🪲.

We would like to thank Ranger, Kari Soeder, with the Allatoona Corps of Engineers and Paul Pugliese with the UGA Extension Office for providing education on our native pollinators! Our gardeners learned all about honeybees along with how some insects are good and others are bad. We are so grateful for our partners in education!

Did you know we have the BEST volunteers? We really do!

Our Euharlee Grow Getters collected pollinator seeds from our very own garden as well as from locally-sourced native pollinators. Students created seed packets for purchase for $2 each.
These are for purchase in the EHES front office.
