๐ŸŒพ Community Growing ๐ŸŒพ

Alex and his team at Mubare Biodiversity Conservation have been working hard to build partnerships and share knowledge of sustainable growing methods within the community in the Mubare area of Uganda.

If people can come together and produce beautiful, organic food together and for each other, then this takes pressure of the need to hunt animals in the nearby national park, creating high risks for both people and the last remaining mountain gorillas ๐Ÿฆ

In the final photo you can see the progress of the food forest the team have been working on at the MBC project site.

We are super excited here at OPCA to be visiting MBC for two months early next year to support their great work and help with the new volunteer program ๐Ÿ˜€ if you are interested in visiting this amazing site and helping with their work, then get in touch !

๐Ÿฎ Knepp Trip ๐Ÿท

Another amazing trip to this week. It is so nice to visit in different seasons and see how the wilderness changes throughout the year.

If you haven't heard about Knepp then you must check it out ! This incredible project saw generational farmers give up their destructive practices and give the land back to nature with a helping hand from free roaming horses, pigs and cows. Over time, it has been a joy to watch as nature takes over, fungi grow and heal the soil as the animals create habitats for others such as the turtle dove, nightingale and the purple emperor butterfly.

Living proof that if we step back and allow nature to do its thing, it can bounce back in unimaginable ways.

You can watch their latest documentary film or read the incredible book, Wilding by Isabella Tree.

๐ŸŒฝ Four Acre Farm ๐Ÿฅฌ

How beautiful are these photos ?? Growing food doesn't have to mean huge fields of a single crop where all wildlife is exterminated, food can be grown in a way that is super healthy for us and wildlife !

Check out to find out more about this awesome way of growing not just food but also community.

We recently visited to discuss an exciting new project in the making !

๐Ÿ† We Won ๐Ÿ†

We want to say a big thank you to all of our followers who took the time to vote for our film A Hop of Hope in the Film Festival. We have been voted the online audiences' favourites ๐Ÿ˜

The film celebrates the fantastic work of who have successfully reintroduced the rare Large Marsh Grasshoppers to sites across the South of the UK.

This is just a small part of the work being done by this awesome project who are working with communities to bring nature back to London and other areas. From beavers ๐Ÿฆซ to eels, butterflies ๐Ÿฆ‹ and maybe soon even storks, this great project is helping life burst back into our urban areas.

All of this work wouldn't be possible without their volunteers. If you want to find out how you can get involved, then check out their website to learn how you can help !

๐Ÿฆ‹ The Big Butterfly Count ๐Ÿฆ‹

It's the time of year when the UK butterflies are out enjoying the sunshine. Each year, the organisation holds the Big Butterfly Count.

This is an awesome opportunity for everybody to get involved in wildlife conservation as this citizen lead research project allows scientists to monitor butterfly populations and track how they adapt their range and behaviour in the changing climates.

Check out their website for more information on how to get involved and download your butterfly ID guide that will help you to get to know your local butterflies.

Here are some photos of two beautiful species I recently photographed on the Dorset heaths.

๐ŸŒณ Tree Planting ๐ŸŒณ

Alex and the team at have recently hosted one of the local schools in Bwindi to visit the MBC site to learn all about the work we are doing and get involved by helping to plant trees.

As part of the incredible work MBC is doing to help poachers move away from hunting, we are building a community food forest on the MBC site. Planting a mixture of indigenous trees, fruit and vegetables, the garden will be a place for wildlife, learning and community food support.

Would you like to support this work ? You can either donate so that we can host more school groups or you can come and help yourself with the new volunteer program, getting fully involved in the work at MBC. Check out our bio for more info or send a DM.

Well done to the amazing team at MBC for continuing this great work ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ ๐Ÿฆ

๐ŸŒŽ World Environment Day ๐ŸŒŽ

This year's World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan "Our land. Our future. We are "

" Earth needs a helping hand. The planetary crisis threatens to destroy our home and eliminate millions of species with which we share this beautiful planet. But this degradation is not inevitable. We have the power and the knowledge to reverse the harm and restore the environment - if we act now! "

You can help restore our planet by rewilding yourself, your garden and your community. Together, we can make a big difference ๐Ÿ™

It's World Turtle Day ๐Ÿข

I would not be where I am in my career today, or have had half the adventures I have had so far if it wasn't for turtles !

From starting as an intern at .cucphuong in Vietnam๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ, caring for rescued turtles, to managing sea turtle projects with in Malaysia ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ and Coprot Comunidad Protectora de Tortugas de Osa in Costa Rica ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ท

Working with turtles has been a pleasure, they are incredible animals with inspiring stories. I have been lucky enough to tell their stories around the world to everyone I meet.

I have been able to work with amazing people to protect them, and met hundreds of volunteers and interns who all fall in love with the world of turtles.

Every day is turtle day, but today is a day to say thank you to the animal that has bought me so much and my mentors in the field ๐Ÿข โค๏ธ

๐Ÿฆ Volunteer Opportunity ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Are you looking to make an impact with your next travel plans ? You can come and volunteer with Mubare Biodiversity Conservation!

MBC work with local communities in the Mubare area to support sustainable livelihoods. Often, these poor communities turn to hunting in the gorilla forests, creating human wildlife conflicts.

At MBC poachers are given an alternative income through tourism, sustainable gardening and through an incredible education program.

Volunteers can come and stay on the project and help out with MBC's work in the community garden and schools, whilst learning all about the local cultures.

This is an opportunity to not pass up !

With thanks to the great work by ,the founder of this awesome project.

๐ŸŸ Invasive Lionfish ๐ŸŽฃ

Have you ever heard of the lionfish ? These awesome fish are extremely beautiful and are incredible predators, a true joy to come across on the reef.

Unfortunately, outside of their native range (the Indo-Pacific) they can cause havoc in new areas. This is certainly the case on the Mesoamerican reef in Central America.

Lionfish have managed to invade this reef system as they were brought to Florida as aquarium fish, a terrible idea as they eat everything in the tank, people threw them down the toilet and put them into waterways, and the rest is history....

They have now spread all the way down Central America and into South America. The native fish have no idea how to escape these immense predators and there are no native fish who know how to eat them!

The Lionfish can rapidly reduce local fish populations, especially keystone species like the herbivores who control algae levels on the reef.

Conservation efforts are in place to remove the Lionfish from reefs and encourage restaurants to sell their fillets, a sustainable source of delicious fish.

If you ever see Lionfish on the menu, then help out the reef and enjoy some delicious, guilt free fish under the sun ! We certainly enjoyed making coconut Lionfish curries in Belize !

๐Ÿ™ New Fundraising Campaign ๐Ÿ™

OPCA is supporting Mubare Biodiversity Conservation to launch their 'Planting Our Future' program.

With just ๐Ÿ’ตยฃ580๐Ÿ’ต we can run a fantastic event that will welcome 100 local school children representing 10 different schools as well as 100 reformed poachers and family members.

The amazing community will come together at the MBC project site to learn all about wildlife conservation, sustainable living and growing trees! ๐ŸŒฑ

This money will allow us to gather 500 native fruit trees that will be planted on the MBC and in the local school compounds. This will -

- Increase local biodiversity
- Act as an educational tool to the community
- Absorb CO2, fighting climate change
- Provide food to people living in poverty

The event will give the community an opportunity to come together to build a better future! MBC will provide lunch and transport for students using this funding ๐Ÿ‰๐ŸšŒ

Donate to this fundraiser to create a long lasting program that will support local community members in Bwindi, Uganda and increase local forest cover, protecting mountain gorillas and other wildlife ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ

More evidence that the UK government has no interest in protecting this planet, only protecting their profits!

Make no mistake, we are angry!

The UK Government has launched an attack on nature and the laws that protect it.

Last week, the Government published outline plans to weaken crucial environmental laws. These laws protect some of our most vulnerable wildlife, green spaces, waterways and beaches across England.

The Government also announced further plans to create at least 38 'Investment Zones' across England, meaning housing and commercial developments could be encouraged to damage nature with little or no restriction.

Additionally, rumours have been circulating that the Government is also planning to scrap a vital scheme known as ELMS (environmental land management schemes) that would have supported our farmers and landowners to enhance nature.

Alone, one of these actions happening would be a disaster. Taken together, it is a clear and direct attack on nature, at a time when our planet is in crisis.

We have one simple request: tell your MP how you feel. Donโ€™t let the Government do this in your name.

Nature needs you now, more than ever. Become part of our e-action ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://bit.ly/AttackOnNatureFB
