ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR, March 4, 2024 - The Department of Education (DepEd) Zamboanga del Sur Schools Division, under the leadership of Dr. Jeanelyn A. Aleman, CESO V, proudly announces its participation in the 2024 International Women's Month Celebration. With the theme "We for Gender for Equity and Inclusive Society," the division launched its commemorative program at the DepEd Teachers Center, following the morning's Flag Raising Ceremony.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Retired Director II Marichu Malate-Atay from DTI Zamboanga del Sur, a distinguished assessor of the Carrier Executive Service Board. Director Malate-Atay delivered an inspiring keynote address, shedding light on the significance of gender equity and inclusivity in our society.
This celebration marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing commitment to championing the rights and contributions of women in Zamboanga del Sur and beyond. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, we strive to build a future where every individual, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.
The Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System is delighted to announce its partnership with the City Savings Bank, Pagadian, under the leadership of Mr. Henry Espanol, Business Branch Head. For the second consecutive year, the bank will provide prizes for the Trivia contest held every Monday during the Flag Raising Ceremony, leading up to the culmination day on March 27, 2024.

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED | 102nd Infantry Brigade Neutralizes WMRPC Secretary Aprecia Rosete a.k.a. Bambam
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay— February 27, 2024 — In a decisive tactical operation, troops from Task Unit Terminator, led by Lieutenant Colonel Terrence Ylanan, under the 102nd Infantry (Igsoon) Brigade, 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Philippine Army, successfully neutralized Aprecia Rosete, commonly known as Bambam, the Secretary of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the CPP-NPA-NDF (CNN) at Brgy. Malagalad, Dumingang, Zamboanga del Sur.
Aprecia Rosete, alias Bambam, hailing from Loreto, Agusan del Sur, was responsible for orchestrating atrocities in Zamboanga Peninsula, including extortions from local and international investors, the murder of innocent civilians, and sabotage by burning heavy equipment of the critical infrastructure and investment projects that resulted to more than 30 warrants of arrest.
Among the items captured at the encounter site were one AK47 with two magazines, one cal.45 Pistol with one magazine, and other personal belongings.
Lieutenant Colonel Terrence Ylanan, the Commanding Officer of the 53rd Infantry (Matapat) Battalion and Commander of Task Unit Terminator, assured necessary assistance for the burial of the demised NPA leader and locate her family somewhere in Agusan del Sur.
"Our troops exhibited exceptional courage and professionalism in executing this operation. This successful neutralization underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. We will ensure that the body of the late Aprecia is treated humanely and returned to her family," Lt. Col. Ylanan said.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Elmer B. Suderio, the Commander of the 102nd Infantry (Igsoon) Brigade, commended the troops involved (53IB, 97IB, 10IB, 106IB,1st ISU, 1st MIB and other support units) for their dedication and bravery in the face of danger. However, he expressed sadness over the loss of life.
"While we celebrate this victory, we cannot overlook the fact that Bambam's demise could have been prevented if she opted to surrender. We mourn the loss of life and remain steadfast in our commitment to preventing such incidents in the future," Brig. Gen. Suderio emphasized.
Major General Gabriel C Viray III, the Commander of the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, extended his congratulations to the 102nd Infantry Brigade for this significant accomplishment.
"This operation marks a critical step towards dismantling the entire Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee that will eventually allow unhampered delivery of basic services in all remote areas of Zamboanga Peninsula. I commend the bravery and dedication of the troops involved. Your sacrifices and hardwork have finally paid off." Maj. Gen. Viray III said.
Lastly, Lieutenant General William N Gonzales, the Commander of the Western Mindanao Command PA, praised the Tabak Division for their relentless efforts in combating insurgency and ensuring that justice has been served.
"For more than five decades, the insurgency in Zamboanga Peninsula has plagued our region. With this victory, justice has been served, marking a significant milestone in our pursuit of peace and stability. For all the atrocities Aprecia Rosete alias Bambam brought to this region, we are now liberated and can move forward towards sustainable development," Lt. General Gonzales affirmed.
The 102nd Infantry Brigade, in collaboration with partner agencies and local communities, remains steadfast in upholding peace, security, and prosperity in Zamboanga del Sur and the entire Peninsula.

Government Troops Transported with Due Respect the Remains of the Late NPA Regional Secretary
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay — February 28, 2024 — In a display of compassion and respect, combined troops under the 102nd Infantry (Igsoon) Brigade, 1001st Infantry Brigade, the Philippine Air Force, and the ZDS Police Provincial Office facilitated the dignified transport of the cadaver of Aprecia Alvarez Rosette a.k.a. Bambam, the slain NPA Secretary of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee. The tragic loss of Rosette transpired during an armed encounter with troops on February 27, 2024, at Brgy Malagalad, Dumingag, ZDS.
The body was transported with due respect via the Philippine Air Force's S-70i Blackhawk Aircraft to her hometown in Loreto, Agusan del Sur, where it was received and assisted by the 1001st Infantry Brigade, which has jurisdiction in the area. This operation exemplifies the government's commitment to treating all individuals, regardless of their affiliations, with humanity and dignity, even in death.
"Our actions in facilitating the transport of Aprecia Alvarez Rosette's remains underscore our dedication to upholding human rights and humanitarian principles," Brigadier General Elmer B Suderio, the Commander of 102Bde, said.
"In extending condolences to her family and loved ones, we reaffirm our commitment to compassion and respect in all circumstances." Brig Gen. Suderio added.
The government troops, in close coordination with local authorities, ensured the swift and secure transport of the cadaver to its final resting place, demonstrating the government's unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and order while upholding the values of compassion and decency.

Hon. Victor J. Yu Presents 1 Million Pesos Reward Money to Civilian Informant
IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay - March 1, 2023- 53rd Infantry (Matapat) Battalion's civilian informant that lead to the successful neutralization of the Secretary of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), received a 1 million pesos from Hon. Victor J Yu, the Provincial Governor of Zamboanga del Sur and Chairman of ZDS PTF-ELCAC in Pagadian City.
The civilian informant, whose identity remains confidential for security reasons, played an important role in providing vital information that led to the successful operation resulting in the neutralization of the CTG's high-ranking official.
"Dili nako maantos nga mutan-aw na lang sa mga terorista nga nagpadayon sa pagdaut sa among komunidad. Ang ilang pag-abot nagdala og kahadlok ug kalisod sa among mga panimalay. Mao kini ang nagpukaw sa akong determinasyon nga magbuhat og aksyon, bisan pa nga kahibalo ko nga ila kong dumtan. Ako ning gibuhat aron masiguro ang kalinaw ug kahapsay sa among pagpuyo," the civilian informant said in bisaya dialect stating how determined he is in providing information of the whereabouts of the Communist Terrorists for the sake of peace in their community.
Governor Yu expressed his deepest gratitude to his constituents, emphasizing the invaluable contribution made towards safeguarding the peace and stability of the region. He reiterated the government's resolute stance against all forms of terrorism and assured continuous support for efforts aimed at upholding peace and security in the province.
The presentation of the 1 million peso reward symbolizes not only appreciation for the civilian informant's bravery but also serves as a testament to the collective resolve of the community in defeating terrorism. Empowering Barangay Tanods: 53IB Joins Collaborative Effort in Legal Education Program
Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur - In a concerted effort to bolster peace and order within local communities, the 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) of the Philippine Army, in collaboration with Local Government Units (LGU), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the provincial government, conducted a Continuing Barangay Legal Education Program (CBLEP) on February 27, 2024. The event took place at the Municipal Gym in Barangay Gumahan, Josefina, Zamboanga del Sur.
The program, aptly named "Reinforcing the Roles of Barangay Tanods as First Responders and in Crime Scene Preservation," aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to enhance their effectiveness in maintaining peace and order within their respective barangays.
Covering a comprehensive array of topics including Basic Patrol Operations, Information and Intelligence Report Writing, Basic Ex*****on of Arnis, Basic Combat Skills, and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism, the training program witnessed active engagement from two hundred eighty (280) Barangay Tanods.
This collaborative initiative underscores the commitment of the 53IB, local government units, the DILG, and the provincial government to empower local communities and ensure the safety and security of all residents of Zamboanga del Sur.
