The question we get asked the most is "How do you attract more birds to your garden?"

Well the answer is simple really. A few minor changes to your garden layout will bring an incredible diversity of birds into your backyard. The correct bird feeders, correct placement of feeders and water sources, bird friendly landscaping and pets friendlyness all encourage birds into your garden.

Part of our mission at Dan the Bird Man - in conjunction with Bird Diversity Consultants - is to promote increased awareness about sustainability and conservation. Unregulated development, exponential population growth and reliance on unsustainable energy sources already puts us well past the global objectives to slow climate change. While a shift to renewable energy sources is obviously needed, it is important to implement such efforts with minimal long term impact. Birds of prey and large terrestrial species such as cranes, bustards and korhaan are particularly sensitive to wind farms. By making regular observations at proposed wind farm sites, as part of environmental impact assessments, we contribute towards efforts to reduce the dependence on unsustainable energy sources and to find ways to mitigate the impacts of turbines on high-risk bird species.

Owls have an incredible allure about them and they're relatively easy to attract to your garden with the installation of a simple owl box. Owls will use these structures as nest sites and typically are faithful to it for multiple successive seasons. Moreover, outside of the breeding season, owls almost always remain in the vicinity of their nests implying that the birds can be seen in your garden year-round.

Featured here is our Spotted Eagle Owl box in accordance with specifications. At a cost of R600 including installation, owl bedding and yearly maintenance - it's a steal for the enjoyment these incredible birds will surely bring to your backyard.
