For the second week in a row, a Longknife Trooper was selected for the Regimental Trooper of the Week! SGT Maria Valle from 3rd Platoon, Quicksilver Troop. SGT Valle was tasked with the NCOIC duties for SPC Vanessa Guillen’s funeral which included escorting our Fallen Comrade during the entirety of funeral procession, providing honors at the grave site, presenting the flag to the next of kin, and giving condolences. She was able to learn, train for and execute those tasks with less than 72 hours notice. SGT Valle is the first E-5 to serve as the NCOIC for a Full Honors Funeral.

SGT Valle is an 11B and ATGM Gunner in Quicksilver Trooper. She is from Los Angeles, CA and joined the Army to improve herself and be a part of something greater

Longknife Squadron would like to congratulate SPC D'Varis Johnson from Quicksilver Troop for his selection as the Squadron and Regiment Trooper of the week. SPC Johnson
was returning from dinner on Thursday, August 12th,
when he witnessed a truck enter the highway and roll
over multiple times into a ditch on the side of the road.
He immediately pulled over to assess the situation, call
911 and provide aid to the wounded driver. While
waiting for first responders to arrive, he applied a
pressure dressing to the wounded driver's head to stop
bleeding sustained from the crash. SPC Johnson's
actions led to the man being safely and expeditiously
taken to the hospital to further assess his condition.

SPC Johnson is a 19D Cavalry Scout. He is from Golden, CO and plans to serve in the US Army for the rest of his career. He will be moving to Fort Carson, CO at the end of the year to further his
career.

Hello Quicksilver Troop! We hope you and the families are doing well. We are looking to have an evening in for the spouses, and as always, children are welcome! We would like to connect with everyone, discuss some upcoming fundraising opportunities and a hospitality team. Just a relaxed evening to get to know some other spouses in the troop. The 3rd Cavalry Regiment represents Fort Hood and the entire U.S. Army as they pay final respects to Spc. Vanessa Guillen during her funeral in Houston on Saturday.

Today we remember Specialist Vanessa Guillen as our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with her friends, her Army family, and the Guillen family during this difficult time. Vanessa was the embodiment of hope and promise, and everything we aspire our Soldiers to emulate. She was taken away too soon, but her memory will be honored through enduring change because of the movement started in her name.

MAIN GATE OUTBOUND TRAFFIC TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED

The Bernie Beck Gate traffic pattern will be adjusted, starting this evening between 6 p.m., August 13, until 2 a.m., August 14, while the digital information boards on the Santa Fe Bridge Overpass are replaced. Inbound traffic pattern on TJ Mills Blvd will be impacted from 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. while outbound gates will be closed and traffic detoured to the Mayborn (Rancier Ave) Gate or Clear Creek Gate to exit Fort Hood from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

We would like to congratulate the Cruz family on the arrival of their baby girl! We hope the baby and mom are both recovered and feeling well.

August 7th is recognized as National Purple Heart Day. Thank you to all the Recipients of the Purple Heart, a true symbol of strength, courage, and resiliency.

The Purple Heart remains the oldest military award and is awarded to those wounded or killed in action against an enemy of the United States. On behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and a grateful nation, I salute those great patriots who bear this honor.

We are beginning Flashback Fridays, back to a time before COVID-19! Since these events occurred before the COVID-19 Pandemic, you will notice our Troopers are not using the precautionary measures we now practice such as social distancing and wearing masks.
1LT Matt Gaynor, 1LT Matt Kreil, and 1LT James Peck were all promoted together from 2LT to 1LT. Since then, 1LT Gaynor and 1LT Kreil have continued to serve as Stryker MGS Platoon Leaders in Quicksilver Troop, and 1LT Peck has taken over a scout platoon in Nomad Troop. Great work gentlemen, Out Front!

Longknife’s Trooper of the Week is CPL Reignhel Samonte from HQ Platoon, Quicksilver Troop! CPL Samonte is a 92Y Supply Sergeant from Las Vegas, NV and plans to serve in the Army as a career. He plans to either become a warrant officer or commission as a logistics officer. CPL Samonte has been working to prepare the Troop for upcoming gunnery and field exercises by ordering and distributing critical supplies.

This week he also an inspection of his supply room's records management system, attaining the highest score in the Squadron. He created and presented a Leader Professional Development class on the proper management of hand receipts and property to all of the Troop's sub-hand receipt holders. CPL Samonte routinely mentors and guides the other Longknife supply Troopers, ensuring that everyone is able to execute their duties to the best of their abilities.
