The best group activities that I have tried.
Don't be mislead into thinking that we are going to talk only about writing activities in this post. But shall we start with them?
🖊️ Rarely do I begin a class without "How are you doing?" It is important to set the mood and see what the students feel like doing on a particular day. "Fine" is not the answer we are looking forward to though and I might also ask "Anything new? Have you watched anything interesting? What made you smile today? Tell me something you know that you didn't know yesterday." The list goes on. But at a particular moment when the imagination stops working and the group still replies with "Fine. Thank you!", I come to realise we need something else. I asked them if they would be up for a 7-day challenge. They had to write a diary every day and notice all the good things happening. 🗣️ 1-minute speaking. The name says it all. Set the timer and here you are, ready to discuss a random topic you will see at a flashcard. All the other students listen carefully and ask questions afterwards.
👥 One topic to discuss with a number of partners (mingling activities). Sounds not that exciting, huh? But in reality you have a chance to talk to people with different backgrounds and benefit from that by noticing the vocabulary you don't know and seeing the blind spots in your learning process.
