I honestly want to have a whole IG live with some of the peeps in my network on this topic because it's so damn cathartic to air how indoctrinated some of us became in this era 😂

Someone even mentioned it to me as a cult, and I was like 👀 "nooooo, but it actually was."

It had us hustling for $10k months. Coaches telling us it was mindset blocks if we didn't land a client. Pricing things based on nothing but audacity. It was S**T.

But it taught me what I don't want to see from myself in this space, and I guess for that I'm grateful 😂😭🫠

I work with human-centered businesses and organizations.

People who have felt, seen, or been through something that has changed them or the people around them.

I work with people who either never want to feel a certain way again or are fighting to ensure that everyone experiences the abundance they've gotten a taste of.

But they can't achieve these things without telling their story.

They can't connect with their people (the ones who know them and don't know them yet) until they show them they understand.

Doing this is not easy. But it is necessary.

And I consider it such a gift to work with them as they do that. To craft words that honor and uplift who they are while ensuring their creative expression stays wrapped in freedom, care, and love.

It's no secret that the online business industry is changing, fam. We’re all up on game now and want something different.

“YoU nEEd SuppOrt” 😩

I know your mind probably went there after my post the other day about how the businesses doing the damn thing well have support.

Like, “of-fu**ing-course I need support, Makeda. I have 67 tabs open and can’t even locate which one is playing music.”

Two things:

First - chill with the attitude. My kids bring enough of it to balance out you, me, and the worst characters from any reality show (looking at you, Jackie)

Second - I want to make sure you’re not thinking of support like I used to for the first two years of my business.

If you were anything like me, you thought for small or micro businesses online, the extent of “support” meant a 🦄 VA.

As a former Virtual Assistant, let it be known that I’m not throwing any shade. There’s absolutely a place in business for those who excel at being a Jack or Jane of all trades who execute your detailed plan.

But after seeing the bts of some stable af businesses, if the strategy is off, executing a flawed plan just replicates the problem.

Now when I say you need support, I’m talking about big-picture, longevity-minded support. Copywriters, CFOs, COOs, and the like who are by your side to think past this month’s to-do list and focus on your business’s wellness and future.

So when you’re feeling choked by the responsibility to “show up,” and no amount of IG followers will make waking up at the crack of dawn to get your Don Draper on worth it…

Call for proper reinforcements.

Comment what the one task taking up way too much brain space every month is to give you an idea of where to look for help first.

Maybe this is or isn’t the bombshell you were looking for.

But if you were anything like I was in the early days of my business, you’ve probably assumed that there are certain services that aren’t for “small” businesses.

Like me, you’ve probably told yourself that having someone like a copywriter, marketer, or CFO on your team is reserved for soul-sucking CEOs like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk.

But I’ll tell you this. It’s not just demons outsourcing.

I’ve worked with ✨ soul-centered ✨ service providers who really care about the work they’re doing.

People who have full-on sale-void convos with every person in their audience. People who remember birthdays without having to get the FB notification.

People who care just as deeply as you do.

My point is that getting the support you need isn’t off-limits or too extra. It's necessary for your longevity.

You're kind of tired today.

It's Friday and it's meant to be a day where you shut off your computer by 3pm and go play with your kids, maybe get a massage or even just go get a drink at that new place your friends have been about.

But that's not happening for you today (again.)

Your business has gotten BUSY 🥴

And you don't want to complain, because it's technically a good problem to have...but you're still drowning.

You're taking care of your clients & you're focused on the next offer you want to roll out but you're also sitting here, on a Friday, staring at your social media. Wondering wtf you can say to your audience so they don't feel like you're ghosting them.

You're wondering wtf you can say to your them that is in alignment with how you want to show up.

You're looking at your email list wondering what you can say that makes them feel like they know you while ALSO educating them and (let's be honest,) keeping them hot + ready for conversion.

You're staring at your blog that hasn't been updated in 6mos wondering when you'll have time to write something that's actually thought out and not just thrown out.

You're wondering if you'll EVER have the time to commit to content the way you did in the beginning.

First of all, stop s**tting on yourself because like you said...this is a good problem to have. And the answer to it is surprisingly simple: you don't ever NEED to have the time to commit to content again.

You don't ever need to worry about showing up for your audience on SM or emails or blogs anymore because you've gotten to the point where you can get the support to do it for you.

You're at a place in your business now where you're READY to stop guilt tripping yourself over showing up.

You're at a place now where you can show up when you feel like it and do what YOU want the rest of the time. Like giving full devotion to your clients. Like closing your laptop at 3pm, playing with the kids, getting the massage and getting the drinks.

You just have to own that you're ready for help. Own that you're ready to make your business work FOR YOU rather than the other way around. Own that you're in charge, and then take actionable steps!

I can (and probably still will) spend my time writing out content that tells you how to write good copy but let's keep it 💯 with each other...

You don't want that.

Even if you COULD write the best fu**in copy in the world, you're not looking to sit down for a set amount of hours every month to write it.

Cuz that's not what lights you up.

You're also not wanting to check copy tips on your phone as you take 30-45mins out of your day to come up with a random caption.

You've got other s**t to get done.

And you definitely don't want to have the awkward "wtf" convo with your VA or random team member who got burdened with the task of content creation (which is completely out of their wheelhouse) on why it is they didn't use your brand voice at all.

In all honesty - you just don't want the extra stress.

If you gave your audience a quiz at the end of 1 piece of your content, would they be able to tell you wtf it was about? Or would they look at you the way Cassie looked at Rue on Euphoria last week? (spoiler: girl was shook)

Remember, confused buyers don't buy. Your message needs to be absolute clear.

👉🏽 Talk to one person
Are you spreading your net wide and trying to talk to any and everyone or are you getting real specific and talking to just one specific person?

When you get specifically intimate about who you're talking with, your message cuts through all the noise and pulls out who its meant to. And when that person feels seen ...🤯

👉🏽 Have one goal

Let’s talk Brand Building Content or as I like to call it…

Content that gets the people going (Jay Z and Ye anyone?) 🎤

But it’s true.

Brand Building Content is the content that’s helping you keep your business running even when you’re not in *active* launch mode.

Last week, I ended my biz. 

As I knew it, anyway 🤪

Because it just wasn’t working anymore. I had quit my 9-5 almost 2 years ago to get out of the rat race only to hop into the entrepreneur rat race. 

It was wiggidy-wiggidy whack, y’all and I was just not up for it anymore. 

So I took a look at my services. I took a look at what I had learnt over the last two years and I realized that nothing was in alignment. So I deleted it ALL and started from scratch.

So allow me to reintroduce myself to all the new followers as well as to the OG’s.

Well, hello 2022 🎉

There’s a lot of memes going around saying 2021 was a rough one but for me, 2021 was growth.

I became intimately more AWARE of the power I had and although at times (and even now) it became overwhelming, I’m excited that 2022 will see me learning how to better wield it to call in the results I want to see.

I’m excited, y’all. Nervous. But really fu**ing excited.

Is preview text important when it comes to email marketing?

Absolutely! Previews are EVERYTHANG 😎

I mean think about it...are previews at the movie theater worth coming early? (if you say no, unfriend me)

Don't previews of a product make you more enticed to buy it?

Personally, by seeing previews of my husband's baby pics, I got a sneak peek into what my babies would be like and I took that s**t to the bannnk!

Jk...not jk?

But for real! Your preview text is how you up the ante of your subject lines and ultimately increase your open rate.

If your subject line intrigues them, the preview text should pull them all the way in.

And let's say you're having an off day! Maybe your subject line didn't intrigue them but that preview text hooked them...that counts too.

When used effectively, preview text can really play a key part in getting the eyes of your content on your audience!
