Here's a list of what people usually tell me, when I ask if they would like to become their own boss and sell Avon products, and my responses.

🛑 I sold before and sucked at it.
💚 Me too! In fact, so many failed before. HOWEVER! Avon is under new management, and we are now able to use social media! Believe me, it opens up a ton of new customer contacts for you.

🛑 Avon tests on animals!
💚 False! Avon may have tested on animals before, but what company didn't, especially companies which started clear back in the 1800's? That's how things were done.
HOWEVER! Avon does NOT test on animals now. To continue to boycott a company for changing is wrong. Also, Snopes is not always right either, or their answers are extremely outdated. I am against animal testing myself, but I am proud of Avon for doing the right thing and stopping the testing. But if you don't support the companies who change, then what's the point of any business, or even a person for that matter, changing for the better, if they are forever paying for a past mistake they've made right?

🛑 I can't afford it.
💚 I had to think about this one for a minute. You can't afford FREE?
There is no sign up fee, there are no minimum purchases to maintain every campaign, unless you want to make money, which is the point. You don't even HAVE to purchase supplies such as brochures and samples. Avon gives you a free website, a free virtual office, and so much free stuff to make the cyber world a very easy, and very FREE way to do business. Did I mention free enough?
So there is absolutely no risk. If you don't make money and want to quit, you're out nothing. But if you do make money, it's all straight income for you!

🛑 No one will help me.
💚 Look, when I sold Avon before, no one helped me either, and I fully believe that's one of the bigger reasons why I failed. To be honest, I didn't even know I had an advisor back then! What the heck is an advisor?
But now I have a great advisor, Beverly Malloy-Avon Rep, and as an advisor myself, I am absolutely not going to pretend you don't exist.
I have a group for my team where we can discuss things, offer tips and assistance, and I even reward my team with really cool stuff for milestones reached. I'll be there for you! Just like the song. 😉

🛑 I doubt I'll make any money/there are already a lot of people selling in my area.
💚 This is a business, your own business, so whatever you put into it, that's what you'll get out of it. If you make a couple posts on your timeline, then just sit back and wait for the money to roll in...? Sorry, but you are going to fail.
If you never tell people what you're selling? You will fail.
If you maintain a negative attitude? You will fail.
If you ignore the advice and help you are given from your advisor and the rest of your team? You will fail.
Yes, you are selling Avon products, but YOU are your business. You decide how much or how little time you put into it. You decide your schedule. You decide your methods to reach, or fail to reach, your own goals. We can all hold your hand, and will gladly do so, but YOU have to be the one passionate about yourself, and then your products. It's the same with anything you try to sell as your own boss. Even as an author, we have to sell ourselves FIRST.
If you meet a seller who has a bad attitude, would you buy anything from them? I hope not!
So love who you are, then share your love of the products you're selling. So many people already love the Avon brand, and Avon is evolving to include more people than ever before. This ain't your grandma's Avon anymore!

🛑 I'm not comfortable going door to door.
💚 Cool! Me neither. And do you know how many doors I've knocked on since I started selling Avon?
None. Not one single door.
I do 98% of my business online. The other 2% I get by accident...sort of.
I have a really nice bag which identifies me as an Avon rep (and this bag is currently one of the rewards I'm offering my team!) and I keep a small amount of brochures and samples in this bag. People approach ME, asking for a brochure and samples. Yes, if they order through me and not the website, which I mention is possible now, then I have to deliver the items when they come in. But that's easy. They're already my customer, so there's no pressure!
I do offer a brochure and samples to people I catch staring at my bag, but who seem too nervous to approach me. You learn to read people, and who the heck says no to free stuff? Not many. There are also many other items you can get, or earn if you're on my team, which tell people who you are and will draw them to you.
This is the easiest business of the SIX I currently have.

🛑 I want to sell, but I'm a man, so I can't be an Avon lady.
💚 I mean, you still can, if you want to be an Avon Lady, but you COULD just as easily be what we all are now: An Avon Independent Sales Representative.
Avon has way more than just makeup. They have body and bath items for all, jewelry for all, and even clothes and fitness products!

Here's an interesting history lesson about Avon, which is especially intriguing to me, since I'm an author as well as an Avon Sales Rep.

In 1886, David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company, which would become Avon, in New York City.
As an unsuccessful book salesman, he had concocted a rose-scented perfume as a "free gift" to encourage people to buy his books.
The perfume was so popular, McConnell decided to abandon the book business and start a perfume company instead.
In 1897, McConnell built the California Perfume Company's first factory in Suffern, New York, which was conveniently located alongside railroad tracks for easy access to ship his products.
After his death in 1937, his son took over the family business.
The company changed its name to Avon in 1939 in honor of Shakespeare's hometown, Stratford-on-Avon.

Oh my wow.
My husband, God love him, has got to be the most naive person I know...well, except for my sister. I guess we can say they're equal then.
Anyway, I told him if you can make a broom stand up on it's own, you have magical (fictional) witch/warlock powers.
He tried it and couldn't get it to stand very long. I did it, and of course, it's still standing.
He was in shock. Stood there watching it for a good five minutes.
Granted, he doesn't use social media, but...REALLY?
He now truly believes I'm a magical witch.
His first words beyond the wows and OMGs?
"I knew it would be dangerous if I divorced you."

And all these years I thought he stayed with me cause he loves me.
