Stout Typographical Society is run like a small printing business at UW-Stout. Students get hands on STS is one of the oldest organizations on campus.
Stout Typographical Society (STS) is a student-run organization for students who are interested in printing, graphics, and communication areas. Established in 1926, STS was originally created to print The Stoutonia, the campus newspaper. STS consisted of 30 male members, and was run like a fraternity. Hello everyone! Come join us tonight as former program director for the Graphic Communications program and former STS advisor Ted Ted Benson will be giving a demo on re-screening screen printing frames.

Thank you everyone who came to last weeks meeting!! Tonight, we’re screen printing crewnecks for the SCFR club!! We will meet in Comm Tech 202 at 6pm. After the general meeting, we’ll move to Comm Tech 130 to begin screen printing. Hope to see you all there!

Finished off the last day of our trip with Fujifilm and Darwill! At Fujifilm we learned all about their different presses and specialties; and at Darwill we really got a great overview of their workflow process! Then we hoped on the bus for the long trip home! This was an amazing trip and we want to thank all the companies that allowed us to come and tour their facilities. Thank you from all of us at STS!!

Day 2 was amazing! We started off at Specialty Print Communications where we learned about personalized products and mailing. Our second stop was at the Government Publishing Office and learned about a different side of publication and the bidding process for their jobs. Our last stop of the day was at GFX International, here we learned about branded environments and data technologies. We had a nice dinner at Rack House and stuffed ourselves on brisket and pulled pork!

Started the 77th Annual STS Industry Trip with a bang! At 2AM we left UW-Stout to get to our first company Identco where we learned about different types of labels. We then went to Lake County Press where we learned about all the different types of services offered. Afterward, we went to Nosco both their Gurnee and Waukegan locations learning about packaging and literature. We ended the day off with a lovely dinner at Armand's Pizzeria and succeeded in escaping Sorcerer's Secret Mastermind Escape Room with 12 minutes to spare! We have some smart cookies in our midst!

We have some colored t-shirts we will be providing but feel free to grab your own if you have a specific color in mind! If you want to make more than one you can for $5, Comm Tech 124 Wednesday at 6. This is also a great opportunity to experience STS if you have been considering joining!

Our Story
Stout Typographical Society (STS) is a student-run organization for students who are interested in printing, graphics, and communication areas. STS is one of the oldest organizations on campus. Established in 1926, STS was originally created to print The Stoutonia, the campus newspaper. Stout Typographical Society has always given students an opportunity to learn more about the Graphic Communications major. STS strives to give all members a chance to do production work, have substantial involvement in all printing areas, make friends, and learn the basics of teamwork. STS has always worked with local businesses, on-campus departments, student interest groups, and clubs to raise money for their end of the year field trip. This field trip allows STS members the chance to meet with potential employers and see how the "real world" works. STS has changed a lot since 1926, but the quality of the products and the original concepts are still the basis for how the organization is run today. While the organization still focuses on the Graphic Communications major, STS welcomes all majors across campus.
