Grace Millane Murder Trial Exposes Dark Trend in Coverage of Violence Against Women

'The murder of Grace Millane in 2018 seized front pages of media outlets worldwide, with article after article fixated on details of her personal history. These details implied that the sexually violent nature of Millane’s death was somehow a product of her own actions, and this treatment is itself part of a much larger media trend in how violence against women is represented.'

https://thewire.in/media/grace-millane-murder-trial-media-coverage-violence-against-women

thewire.in The media presents female victims as culpable for their own brutalisation. For Grace Millane, this meant her sexual preferences were more important than the horror of her death.

India’s Role in Global Cyber Policy Formulation — The Centre for Internet and Society

The past year has seen vigorous activity on the domestic cyber policy front in India. On key issues - including intermediary liability, data localisation and e-commerce - the government has rolled out a patchwork of regulatory policies, resulting in battle lines being drawn by governments, industry and civil society actors both in India and across the globe.

critiques mainstream media reporting of cases of gender-based violence from an intersectional feminist perspective.

The language employed by the media in reporting gender-based violence is crucial in order to ensure that the society is more sensitive to survivors and upholds their rights and dignity. However, many media practices tend to perpetuate patriarchal mindsets and r**e culture. In this light, the toolkit is a media ethics toolkit for media professionals to employ ethical journalism.

The Cell For Studies in Media Law organized the 'We The Women' event, an initiative by Barkha Dutt on the 8th of April, 2019 at NLIU, Bhopal.

A program that we had very little time to prepare for and spent days working tirelessly to make it a huge success, has become an event that the entire college is talking about and we couldn't be prouder.
We worked like a well-oiled machine and the results are out there for y'all to see!

Credit must be given where its due and hence, a big shoutout to -

Iravati Singh for efficient management of the entire event, for coordinating with event heads and looking into each and every department.

Saahil Khare , Rohit Gattani , Vaibhav Shrivastava Divyam Sharma and Jhalak Shah for being amazing event heads with impeccable leadership skills.

Shreya Mohapatra , Arpita Pande and Singh who were glued to their phones and laptops the entire week, constantly coming up with ideas to publicise the event as widely as possible on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. They made sure the audience always had new and exciting content to look forward to. If your timeline was spammed by a hundred notifications from the Media Law Cell page, you know who to blame ;).

Shashank Chaddha , Priyam Jhudele Sukriti Jha and Priyal Reddy for constantly being on their toes on the day of the event. They are the reason why we could conduct the event smoothly without any unnecessary impediments.

Without a shred of doubt, we can proudly say that this was THE BEST OC EVER!

Another huge shoutout to our hard-working volunteers who worked tirelessly the whole day!

Shagun Singhal , Charvi, Mahek Gupta Vikramaditya, Himanshi, Ritik, Nupur Mishra, Shruti Mishra, Aman Vijay Singh, Unnati Bhadauria , Niyukta, Prakarsh, Utkarsh, Vidhi, Ronak, Vanshika, Lokesh, Nandini, Jeezan Riyaz Aadya, Tanya, Shreya Chandhok Koustav, Tejas Hinder, Venkatesh, Arushi Shukla Kriti Mahajan soumya singh , Mahesh, rakesh malviya, Himanshu Dixit, Harshdeep Singh Bedi and Simran Veer - TAKE A BOW, YOU GUYS! Y'all were beyond phenomenal!

We owe the next big thank you to Abhishek Solanki who came at the first call to help us record videos, even when we had to shoot late in the night.

Our Convenor Meenakshi Kumar couldn't be with us on the day of the event but made it a point to look into every minute detail before the event and lent her support and encouragement throughout.

Last but not the least, the NLIU student community that showed up in large numbers to support us! We may have missed out a few names but know that each one of you played an important role and we could have never pulled this off if it were not for your dedication and hard work! Each one of you deserves a pat on the back!

This has been an overwhelming and joyous experience for all of us. Even with the last-minute crisis situations, stress and constant pressure, we worked as a team and gave NLIU one of its best events, ever!

Here's to us, guys! We did it. :)
