Just a reminder that the monthly Lancaster/Palmdale/Quartz Hill CERT meeting is this coming Tuesday, September 27th. Our guest speaker will be from the L.A. County Department of Animal Care & Control. They will speak about their preparation for a disaster and what animal owners should do to be prepared.
Although the address listed is on 30th Street East, the building is actually on Avenue L, just east of 30th Street East.
The public is welcomed to join us for the guest speaker presentation.

AV CERT will host a free Basic CERT Training course three consecutive Saturday's beginning February 19th thru March 5th, 2022 at Knight High School in Palmdale. Sign-up at https://www.antelopevalleycert.org/register
It is with deep regret we must announce that the multi-week AV CERT Basic Training class scheduled to begin tonight, January 13th, 2022, is cancelled due to the immediate needs of our local public safety sponsor during these difficult times.
We thank everyone who signed up for this class wanting to learn about disaster preparedness and the opportunity to serve the community with AV CERT. We apologize for such late notice as we were informed of the need to cancel all available and upcoming classes just today.
We stand behind our local public safety sponsors and their needs to care for the community first and foremost. We remain ready to serve the community when called upon by our local government and public safety sponsors. We hope to resume AV CERT trainings later this year.

* Slow down
* Allow extra time to get to and from your destination(s)
* Leave extra distance between you and the car ahead of you
* Gently apply the breaks to avoid skids
* Drive with your headlights and windshield wipers on to help
with visibility
* Make sure you and your kids are dressed appropriately for the

**ADVISORY** For residents living in the burn areas related to the Bobcat Fire (Valyermo/Juniper Hills areas) and the Lake Fire (Lake Elizabeth/Lake Hughes areas) there is a potential "Evacuation Warning" in place. If you live in these areas, be prepared to possibly be evacuated. IF this happens evacuation centers will be located in Littlerock, Castaic, and Lake LA.

We’re excited to begin offering Basic CERT Training again! Here’s a brief look at our cribbing instruction. CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. If a major earthquake occurred in LA County, professional emergency response systems may be overwhelmed. CERT training gives valuable hands-on disaster preparedness training. Like a flat tire, you may never need to change one because you can call a tow service, but it doesn’t hurt to know how to change one because cell service is guaranteed to work everywhere.

AV CERT is excited to announce our long-awaited & frequently requested upcoming BASIC CERT TRAININGS in October 2021 and November 2021! These trainings are free and a FEMA prerequisite to join and volunteer with AV CERT. These free trainings are also available to community members not wishing to volunteer, but desire to learn about disaster preparedness and how to prepare for a major disaster such as earthquakes, fires, and more. AV CERT members Derrick and Robert recently assisted a local K9 search group’s training at Jackie Robinson Park in Sun Village. Our members participated as role players acting as lost persons while the dogs attempted to locate them. We’re happy to partner with this wonderful group and assist them with their lifesaving training efforts. Last Tuesday, the City of Lancaster City Council invited AV CERT to their meeting. AV CERT was recognized for our volunteer efforts in supporting the City of Lancaster & Kaiser Permanente Mass Vaccination Site at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. Over 30 AV CERT members provided hundreds of hours of daily volunteer staffing in various roles throughout the full deployment of the vaccination site. We are proud of the generous time commitment from our volunteers. It was our pleasure to have served our community alongside the City of Lancaster and Kaiser Permanente. We look forward to our next opportunity to serve.
