RELOCATING HEADQUARTERS OF IOC's TO THEIR OPERATIONAL BASE IS A DECISION IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

The recent called by the chairman of central zone comrade Clever Inodu, directing IOCs operating in the Niger Delta Region to return back to their base is a welcome development that requires no further delay or extension.

We cannot deny that peace was elusive before now which made most of the companies operating in the region to relocate to a safer place while their base is located in the Niger Delta Region. The story has changed in the years past, following the presidential amnesty policy granted to the Niger Delta militants whom were legitimately demanding for justice, equity against oppression, marginalization, neglect and denial in the last 30 to 40 years.

It is wrong to allow IOCs headquarters to remain outside their operational base, as it will hinder cordial interface between host communities and management of the company. It is on this note, I want to support the recent presentation made by the chairman of IYC Central zone, directing multinational corporations to return back to base. They have initiated various reasons why they cannot return back to base. But we must tell ourselves the truth that there is relative peace in Niger Delta Region. If these companies are fulfilling their corporate social responsibility, I doubt if they would have come up with insecurity as a major reason why they relocated to Lagos, Abuja etc.

There is peace in the Niger Delta Region. So we do not want the IOCs to hide under any reason to continue working from a distance. They should come closer to the host communities. Some have been in Lagos and Abuja accessing what is happening in the base, it is completely wrong. The headquarters should be located where their base is.
