I Was POISONED This is SERIOUS!
Over the years, I started to accomplish many of my homesteading goals - raising chickens and sheep🐑 🐔 - growing a garden that produced 🥕 learning to ferment and can🫙, making homemade cheese, yogurt & butter, but I always found making bread was hard and I got frustrated. It was too messy , my bread turned out flat after cooking - I just
could not get it!
Homesteading skills take time and practice. If you are new at this or maybe have been around a while, don't be hard on yourself. Pick one thing you want to perfect and keep perfecting. When that is checked off the list,it is time for something new.
That is what I did with sourdough bread making. I actually started making rolls from the dough in muffin tins first and then graduated to the actual loaf. It only took a few tries and I figured it out. Don't ever give up on things that may give you a little trouble. You WILL find a way to make them work for you. Persistence really does pay off and it feels 👍 great!

It's that time again! Did you know February is National Sweet Potato month? Let's grow our own sweet potatoes instead of buying them. It's soooo easy.
The bottom of potato will start to develop roots and the top will start sprouting little plants called slips. When 6-8 inches long, break off and sit in jar of water so they can root. When soil temps are about 65 degrees and temps don't go below 50, you can plant in the ground.
Did you know that each sweet potato slip that grows from the potato gives you a couple pounds of potatoes per slip? And the long flowing vine type greens that grow from the plants throughout the heat of summer are a highly nutritious addition to meals. They are especially great to have around when your other greens in the garden stop or slow down because it is so hot. I love the leaves sautéed with some ghee or butter.
My favorite way to eat sweet potatoes are just to bake them whole in the oven and cut open and cover with grass-fed butter . Tell me your favorite way to eat sweet potatoes.

Gobble gobble🦃 Turkey eggs are very distinguishable because they are bigger than a chicken egg and have speckles all over. Late winter, early spring is the time to start collecting our turkey eggs for the incubator. A turkey hen will usually lay one clutch of eggs per year. A clutch can be anywhere from 4 to 20 eggs.
I raise many of my turkeys for meat, so this insures me I will be getting young ones in 28 days. However, I still love to let mother nature do it's thing. I will let my hens go broody (in our sheep barn between some straw bales where it is a safe and distraction free area)after I collect the eggs for myself.
Nothing is better than coming outside and finding momma walking around teaching her babies how to forage.
If you are wondering, turkeys eggs taste similar to a chicken egg, but much bigger.
