One slight correction here, You can only be what you digest. Digestion transforms the foods we eat into our tissues, which constantly regenerate....the stomach lining is the first to replace at 4 days, Your bones take the longest, every 90 days...so in essence you have a new body every 3 months and you can work to improve the body you have right now in the next regeneration....Fascinating!!

Eating to live denotes some modicum of health, a consciousness about the foods that are being consumed and how they affect the person eating them. Selecting organic, fresh and or locally grown foods that are prepared fresh and healthy are best, Ayurveda takes all of this into consideration along with the actions that the food has in our bodies before, during and after digestion.~ Shelli Thompson

Sick and Eating | Health Pulse 11/04/2014

In doing research for my book, I was on google and this popped up, Interestingly enough, I don't have to give the author credit...because it was me. There is one correction: "So in essence the government will be subsidizing both the treatment of type 2 diabetes and the consumption of high frictose corn syrup". If forgot to add, "and passing the cost to the healthy people paying for insurance"...GOOD READ!!

Sick and Eating | Health Pulse We have heard so much recently about Health Care Reform and how all of the unecessary proceedures and tests, the greed factor and the lack of major competition are such an issue that will make reform very difficult.

We always have our basic Dosha combination, that does not change, it is ours for life.
What we observe is either balance or imbalance. Everything has an effect on our basic dosha type; what we eat, the season, the time of day, our thoughts, routines and the amount of rest we get.
What we need to address is the fact that these fluctuations of the dosha's in nature (ie: seasonal, daily, nutritionally, etc) affect the dosha's in our bodies. So in order to remain balanced if you were a Pitta (fire element) you would have care at the pitta time of day and also the season in order to remain balanced, no spicy foods, exertion mid day in hot sun for example. When we live Ayurvedically and take all of these things into account, (which becomes a habit) no need to figure The change in your dosha because you will be at a level of sattva.
There you have it~~ Health Simplified~~

Nobody is perfect, as soon as you realize that your family and the people in it have flaws, the sooner you will be on the journey to a happier relationship. Realizing not everyone is perfect is just the starting point. From there you have to work on acceptance of the way they are and understand that we can mold our children but we can not complete the artwork, that is for them to do. Acceptance and understanding are the keys here.

Offering today now that it is spring:
Excerpt from book~~
It’s even more fun to plant and grow your own food. A vegetable garden is a great family activity from inception to plucking that first fruit of your labor off the vines. Vegetables that your child would never dream of touching much less eating will be many times more tantalizing, when they grown them and actually harvest them for use in the kitchen where they have a hand in preparing the meal. It’s amazing how quickly their taste buds change when it comes from their own sweat equity.~~

Ayurvedic Nutrition~ Free Yourself from Counting Calories

When we understand nutrition in a more simplified way we can start to pay attention to how the food feels in our bodies, how it tastes, the texture and beautiful colors.

We start to view food in a different way and start to enjoy it for what it is, something to nourish us and enjoy, not a number that we are counting or a nutritional group we are eating from.

It’s an interesting concept for people just being introduced for the first time.

Having a peaceful mind can be quite a challenge in our fast paced world creating stress and stress is considered a main contributor of illness and disease. Ayurveda helps us to understand ourselves on a deeper level allowing all of us the opportunity to be actively involved with our own health and wellness. This deeper understanding allows us to live more consciously.
When we live consciously we notice the subtle changes of the seasons, we are aware of our environment and how we interact and connect with the elements that surround us and are inside of us, we are all that we see in nature, we are nature.

Natures most nutritious foods, looking at the beautifully purple plumb today.

PLUMBS:
As a child growing up in a warm climate, I used to climb the neighbors wall and feast on his delicious plumbs :-)

Plumbs are an awesome source of antioxidants that are found to protect the brain and the heart.
Ayurvedically they are Sweet, Sour/cold/sweet they pacify Vata and Pitta, vitiate Kapha (sour plumbs are Pitta vitiating). The taste ranges from sweet to sour with the different varieties.

With Ayurveda a balanced diet is not about balancing the food groups for nutritional value, it is about the balance within the body and the constitution of the person eating the foods. Every individual naturally processes foods differently. That’s why one person loves spicy foods and the next can’t abide by them at all. Everyone is different and each person is affected by the foods they eat differently. It is the concept of individuality and uniqueness that Ayurveda recognizes.~~Shelli Thompson
