We are always on the lookout for vintage bicycles. Some can be restored, and given new life, however some will donate their components for other projects.
If you have any old bicycles collecting dust in your garage that you might like to donate to us, please reach out via Private Message.
Please include a pic or two of the bikes.
Still working on my Urban Assault bike.
This 26" Huffy Cranbrook bike has been modified with a 700c wheelset with a Sachs 5 Speed hub. A broken and hard to find shifter has slowed progress for quite a while.
Planning to paint the bike a Marigold Yellow, with Black and Charcoal Gray components.
Can't wait to see the final result!
Rescued this one from the back of a scrap truck about 7 years ago.
Wonder if the new owner is still enjoying it?
Does anyone remember the "Black and White Challenge"?
The concept was to post 10 B/W photos of things that represent your life, over the course of 10 days. With no captions.
Here was one of the photos I submitted.
The weather finally broke from the heat wave. And the temps in the low 80s presented the perfect opportunity to pull this Schwinn Speedster out of storage, air up the tires, and hit the SRT.
Still very much a work in progress, this bike will be getting a new wheelset, and perhaps a fender delete. As well as a much-needed detail and polish.
As it sits in this photo, is a very rideable bicycle. And rather than allow it to collect dust while awaiting those mods, I will put some trail miles on it.
Stay tuned to see the progress on this classic!
Another bicycle built from the parts bins at Jaybird Re-Cycling.
This Mongoose Fling 20" BMX bike was prepped and sprayed with a fresh coat of paint.
The vintage white Comp III style tires really make this bike pop.
It has a 46 tooth sprocket off a 26" cruiser, and a long arm crank from a vintage 10 speed.
Here are a few vintage ladies bikes that were rescued off the back of a scrap truck. Waiting to be turned into something cool.
The one on the left is already on its way back together. Progress photos coming soon!
Our primary focus here at Jaybird Re-Cycling is to find a new life for, or to re-purpose old bicycles. To make something cool, and useable out of an object that was destined for the junk pile.
Here we are mocking up a "gravity bike". Built specifically for coasting down a long, steep, and windy hill. Usually at a high rate of speed.
This one uses a 20" frame, but with 18" wheels and tires to get it down low. The frame is flipped upside down, and the seat tube is utilized to mount counterweights to keep it planted.
This one is only in the beginning stages, so stay tuned to see future progress.
The worst day in a bicycle enthusiast's life is the day that your scoot is stolen.
This 1961 Schwinn Streamliner went missing from a friend's porch a year ago and we are still on the lookout for it.
Never leave your bike outside overnight.
Never walk away from your bike when in public spaces.
Always use a bike lock.
Always copy down the serial numbers from the bottom of the frame, and take a few photos to help identify the bike in the event that it does go AWOL.
This Dyno was given to me a while back. It was a complete bike, but the finish had pretty severe damage.
Proceeded to do disassemble & clean it. And repaired the finish with a fresh paint job.
In the end it looked and rode great! I sure hope the new owner gets some mileage out of it.
The bike giveaways run thru this page are by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
DO NOT... DO NOT... DO NOT show up at my shop without an appointment, and proceed to help yourself to the stuff on my property.
This is not a Free For All, and my location is PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Anyone caught tresspassing or stealing from my shop will be PROSECUTED!
And the free bike program will END!
We have a handful of bikes left from last week's free bike event. And I still need to find these a good home.
There were a few folks who expressed interest in multiple bikes for multiple kids. And since there are still bikes left, I would like to invite you back for a second pick.
The bikes I have ready are shown in the photos. Reach out to this page via Private Message if you would like to arrange to come get another one.
Friday's perfect weather set the scene for a great jaunt on the SRT.
This orange Specialized 24" mountain bike was the perfect choice for the trip, and the setting sun really amplifies the color.

I put some trail miles on this vintage Panasonic road bike.
Rides great!!!
22" seat tube height
250.00 is a steal for a bike this nice. Not likely to be another example of a 40 year old bike in this condition!

Up for your consideration is this Dyno / GT Zoot Scoot.
Probably one of the nicest I have ever seen.
A bargain at 350.00

Another one from the Fred Will collection.
Don't you dare call it a "Rat Rod"...
I never was into road bikes all that much. But I have grown fond of this Trek 1220 ZX. It's aluminum frame and componentry, make it super light. There really is a significant rideability difference when you get on a higher end, quality bicycle.
Shown here at one of my favorite spots on the SRT, The old rail bridge right before Monocacy.
The bike has some chips, and scratches, but is in excellent mechanical shape. I cleaned and tuned it up, before putting 150 miles on it to "test" it out.
This could be your bike for 250.00. Reach out to me if you might like to own it!
I really lucked out when I acquired this 83 Redline 700P for my collection! I cleaned it up real good, and polished the chrome. Replaced the seat and grips with period correct repops. And purchased a set of OE Tioga Comp 3 tires.
I rode and enjoyed the bike for a number of years before selling it for some ridiculous money!
This photo op presented itself when I took it for one last ride on the SRT!
I owned this Dave Mirra 540 Haro for about a decade.
For a long time this was my go-to scoot. Even got to meet Dave Mirra once before he passed away.
This was one of the last rides I took on this bike before I sold it to a collector.
This Huffy Cranbrook is turning out to be a bitchin' street bike. Originally a beach cruiser style bicycle, I have been working on the rough assembly. 700c wheelset, with a 5 speed hub. Drop neck from a vinage road bike. Mountain bike bars flipped upside down. With climbing bars added.
Needs to have the shifter installed and sorted out. And a front brake added on. Also installing a long arm 3 pc. BMX style crank.
Once the mechanicals are sorted out, I'll break it all down for a proper paint job. Stay tuned to see what color scheme I end up choosing!
This 6 speed 20 inch bike was the second bike that I fixed up for the Eye On Pottstown Group Bike Raffle. Originally equipped with mountain bike style handlebars, and off road knobby tires. I changed it up a bit to be better suited for surface streets.
Hope the new owner is still putting some miles on this bike!
Presenting... The "S*k Chik".
Straight from the collection of Fred Will.
Anyone who says that girl's bikes are not cool can go suck eggs...
It takes years to create a patina like this. Why mess with Mother Nature. Cleaned everything thouroughly, and sealed all that beauty in a satin clearcoat.
The sun really enhances the color!
Found this classic just in time to rescue it from the scrap yard.
This one is from the awkward era of bicycles where they tried to make them look like motorcycles. From what I can gather it appears to be a 78-79 model Huffy.
It is currently in pieces at my shop, awaiting a paint job, and reassembly. Stay tuned to see the finished product!
This runt bike was a fun project.
Introducing... "The Sting-Runt".
It was the first bike I built that involved extensive metal fabrication. I started with a NEXT brand runt bike, and welded on the curved cantilever bars to the frame. The chainguard is legit Schwinn Sting-Ray part, as well as the handle bars, seat, sissy bar, and brake lever. The headlight is also a period correct accessory.
Once the fab was complete, I sprayed it a blue shade that was available on it's vintage counterpart. The decals on the bike were custom cut in vinyl to add the final details. I milled the tires down to mimic a SLIK, and a Brick. And even painted on the whitewalls.
Of all the bikes I have built through the years, this one has gotten the most love. I shared it in a Facebook group, called Rat Rod Bikes, and received nearly 500 likes. The bike is totally rideable, but not exactly comfortable.
I have yet to find this one it's forever home. Reach out to me if you would like to own it!
This bike was discovered out at the curb with a FREE sign hanging on it. Of course it was not as cool as it is in this "after" pic.
I relocated the brand new seat further back. The muscle bike bars cleaned up nicely from another bike. Brand new VANS handle grips. Tires from a Specialized mountain bike seemed appropriate. Aluminum BMX pedals were perfect for this build.
The components were painted either white, or left chrome. The wheels were cleaned and tuned, before painting them Gloss Cherry Red. And the frame was sprayed with Satin Navy.
It was a great bike to ride, and photograph. But I eventually placed an ad on Marketplace, where I found it's new owner.
I purchased this Schwinn Black Friday Krate on clearance at Walmart in 2008. It was a limited production Black Friday doorbuster special that went unsold until after the holiday season. I did not hesitate to buy it to add to my collection.
Although not a faithful recreation of it's vintage counterpart, it was close enough to turn heads, and grab people's attention when I would take it out for a ride.
Sold it to a vintage bicycle dealer who planned to add it to the inventory of his store.
I managed to get in one last 25 mile ride before the snowstorm! Thanks to my buddies Fred, and Crail for keeping me motivated to get out on the trail and ride my bike this year!
As 2020 draws to a close, I have to acknowledge that if it wasn't for my bicycles, and a few friends, I might have lost my mind in an "unprecedented" way.
Might have to test out my new thermal underwear, and head down to the SRT. When I drove past the park yesterday, it appeared to be cleared of all the snow.
Who wants to tag along for a brisk ride later today?
