Intricate Braids
Braids were used to signify marital status, age, religion, wealth, and rank within West African communities. Nigerian housewives in polygamous relationships created the style known as kohin-sorogun, meaning “turn your back to the jealous rival wife,” that had a pattern that when seen from behind was meant to taunt their husbands’ other wives. If a young girl of Senegal’s Wolof people was not of marrying age, she would have to shave her head a certain way, while men of this same group would braid their hair a particular way to show preparation for war and therefore the preparation for death.
Beautiful Dutch braids with extension 💗🌈
I believe hairstyles are there to share, I also believe knowledge and history is there to share! Learning about the history of hairstyles is a way of respecting the hair you wear as well as other cultures. Knowledge is key 🔑

Did you know Cornrows were used to help slaves escape slavery?
Slaves used cornrows to transfer information and create maps to the north.
Since slaves were not allowed to read or write they had to pass information through cornrows.
It is believed to have originated in Colombia, South America where Benkos Bioho, in the late 1500’s came up with the idea to have women create maps & deliver messages through their cornrows. They were also called “canerows” to represent the sugarcane fields that slaves worked in.
One style had curved braids, tightly braided on their heads. The curved braids would represent the roads they would use to escape.
Also in their braids they kept gold and hid seeds which helped them survive after they escaped. They would use the seeds to plant crops once they were liberated.
Cornrows was the best way to not give back any suspicion to the owner. He would never figure out such a hairstyle would mean they would escape or the route they would take.

What your goal length?
Mine would be mid back again. Once upon a time I had thick, curly mid length hair. I got pregnant 14 years ago and decided to have it cut off to my chin (against the hairdressers wishes) I cried for a week! It’s never grown that long since, however I vow to get it back hence the reason I stopped blinding my ends as it makes it snap!

Every 6 weeks or so, For quite a few years now I have the pleasure of making these 2 beautiful sisters feel fabulous. 💁🏽♀️💁🏽♀️
We do a trim, and a natural hair style of their choice that they will maintain with a silk bonnet at night.
We talk about how amazing their hair is and all the fabulous things they are able to do with it! It’s important that mixed heritage children learn about their hair, have positive language when maintaining it and learn how to love it.
it’s also a bonus when the person talking has the same hair is able to be able to show them that representation 👩🏽🦱👩🏽🦱➰➰
If you have mixed heritage children, that struggle with loving their hair, send em over and I’ll make them feel amazing 😘
