7-13th April is Dog Bite Prevention Week

🐶 Dog bite warning signs 🐶

Recognising the warning signs that a dog may bite can make a big difference to the outcome of a dangerous interaction with a dog.

Most dog bites happen around dogs that we know. According to a study published in 2018 in the Journal of Veterinary Medicine, “the most common context of a dog bite is related to interacting or attempting to interact with the dog (e.g., stroking, playing, handling, and restraining); however, in many cases, the dog approached the victim.”

Subtle warning signs that your dog is feeling anxious or uncomfortable include:

Yawning
Turning their head away
Licking their lips
Looking away from you and seeing the whites of their eyes, avoidance
Having a tense body
Lowering their body
Tail tucked under
Lifting their front paw
Trembling

Signs that a dog may bite to look out for:

Stiffening
Lifting their lip
Staring at you intently
Growling at you
Snarling
Snapping
Baring teeth
Lunging

If your dog shows any of these signs at all you should remove them from the situation that they are in. You should never punish you dog for displaying any of these signs. If you ignore the subtle warning signs that your dog gives you their behaviour could escalate quickly, and they could resort to biting.

Kendal Shepherds ‘Canine Ladder of Aggression’ is an excellent infographic that shows how dogs communicate their feelings or discomfort in a situation. Listen to what a dog tells you.

*** 👀 NEW IN! 👀 ***
From these look like the ultimate treat dispensers for those dogs who don’t interact with the traditional balls as most dogs do by trying to crush them to break them instead of rolling them and interacting with them as they’re designed for… (can you tell I’m talking about Sango?! 😆🫣🙄) I must confess I left it in the shop but I will be posting a video asap but I can’t see how he can crush or rip it apart so, watch this space for our verdict or better yet, come on in and see them in person! 😀🐶

Please keep your dogs on LEASH and UNDER CONTROL near live stock.. don’t risk their lives, and farmer’s livelihood.. livestock have the right to graze in peace.

Spring is just round the corner 🐑🌸☀️

While enjoying the outdoors, please remember to keep your dog on a lead 🦮 particularly when there is livestock nearby 🐏🌱🐮

When dogs chase or attack sheep and other farm animals, it not only causes severe stress, but can lead to abortion, injury and death 😢

No matter how well trained your dog is or how much you trust them, if around livestock their natural instincts can kick in‼️

The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2021 means that owners of dogs found chasing or attacking livestock can face up to a £40,000 fine or up to a year in prison. The farmer also has the right to shoot a dog that is worrying their animals 🐑

Meet Riley 💞

Riley is a 1 year old shepherd collie mix breed who has been exhibiting a lot of Reactive Behaviour recently.. particularly on walks… together with his lovely paw-rents 🐾 we are going to be working together to hopefully teach Riley better ways to cope with what we call ✨ big feelings! ✨

Reactivity is an extremely common behavioural challenge that more and more pet owners are experiencing.. the potential contributing factors endless!

Every situation and animal is unique.

Please don’t be afraid to reach out to a pet professional for support.

Meet Gino!

Gino is an approximately 2 year old medium to large sized mixed breed.. Gino is such a loving soul but has spent NONE of his life so far with a family of his own... despite not being on the receiving end of much - he has SO MUCH LOVE TO GIVE 💞❤️

Gino is dog friendly, child friendly & has a very happy go lucky demeanor. To date he has never had any issues with people.
He currently plays very well and lives with other dogs in kennels.
A foster or foster to adopt home for Gino would be AMAZING. Gino would need a patient kind of person to teach him to be clean in the house, how to walk on a leash and other basic domestic skills, however he is so smart this shouldn’t be too challenging. He also has a full team of support behind him.
Gino has spent his whole life as a stray/kennelled.
Gino would need minimal grooming, but daily exercise and a secure garden would be a bonus.. but could settle anywhere with the right routine.

Gino is not in my care but I said I would post him to spread the word as he has had no luck so far.

💛 Fully Vaccinated
💛 Neutered
💛 Dog Friendly
💛 Child Friendly (no super young children as a general precaution)
💛 Comes with life time backup & support

Adoption Terms, Conditions & Standard procedures apply.

UPDATE - FOUND 🙏

‼️‼️ MISSING CAT MOFFAT ‼️‼️

This long haired female indoor cat has escaped her home across from The Star Bar Moffat.. please can everyone check their garden sheds and keep an eye out, it’s cold and she is not used to being outside so will likely of taken up refuge somewhere.

Pepsi is 11 years old, neutered, is not wearing a collar - has a medical condition which means she needs to be home, she is friendly and good natured and can easily be picked up. She is quiet and timid in nature.

Please if any sightings contact Marie Cannon or message the page IMMEDIATELY 💜
