Looking south down the runway on Feb. 12th, 2015.
Looking north on Feb. 12th, 2015. Heavy ice ruts and pavement is starting to show. Ski equipped aircraft use caution. Will keep watch and post when the snow is gone and I pull the Husky out of the Danner Hangar. We will miss the snow but so anxious to go flying.

Started July 4th,2014. Burning South of Stanley airport. Check current TFRs.
Fathers day fly in at the Smiley Creek Airport. I hope we can have a fly in at our airport here in Stanley at some point.
Snow has melted off runway. Still snow on road to Airport. Muddy and soft south of pavement, as is edge of pavement. Freezing at night so hard early between 630 and 730AM.
Airport has several inches of snow remaining. Picture taken 4/13/2014
Stanley airport is reopen. Note TFR just to the south ( and of course east, north and west for other fires ). Redfish fire is 70% contained. Fire meeting tonight at 7 at the Stanley Community Center.
Typical summer traffic. Lots of gopher holes at south parking. North parking has been oiled with dust abatement.
With the thin snow pack this winter I expect the airport to open sooner then usual. I saw a cub with skis doing a run upstream to the south on the runway but watch out foot traffic has left some big ruts.

Most of the fire traffic is gone. The south parking has been beaten up pretty bad. Here is a letter I wrote to Gary Mcelhenet with the Idaho Dept. of Aeronautics:
Hi Gary,
I wanted to write you about our local Stanley Airport (2U7). As I'm sure you're aware the Forest Service used our south parking on the Stanley Airfield as a heli base for our large Halstead Fire. I finally had an opportunity to view the area since the firefighters have evidently pulled out, or at least opened the area up for public access. There was much heavy traffic of helicopters, support staff and multiple camp trailers. As you can imagine the south parking area and its access in front of Danners place was hugely impacted by the traffic. The south parking is very important to our town and its pilots, plus it is important to the influx of charter service in the summer. Aircraft parked in the north area are exposed to much more wash from charter and occasional users. Life flight also uses our airfield often ( see enclosed picture). It is also not unusual for the north parking to fill up, especially in the summer months. Pilots simply won't utilize our city businesses if they are unable to secure their aircraft. The dust abatement has helped very much and of course the paving of the north part of the airfield has helped also. Perhaps plans are all ready in place to rehabilitate the south parking by either the Idaho Dept of Aeronautics or the Forest Service with the healthy native dry land grasses which were in place before the Halstead fire.. My experience with grass seed planting in that area has demonstrated to me that putting seed in the ground now gives it a chance to germinate before the harsh winters set in. Since this is a time sensitive effort I wanted to see what if anything was being done and to also offer to plant grass seed with my equipment if that would help.
I am certainly glad the Stanley Airfield was there to support the efforts on the fire.
Thank you for any help and resources your able to gain for 2U7.
You may email Gary to offer your comments at: [email protected]
Thanks for your support of the Stanley Airfield.

Pilots take caution of the transition between the pavement and grass on the sides of the runway. It is rough and rutted. When landing upstream to the south I use the grass on the east side of the paved strip, but keep in mind, I'm in a Husky.
Stanley Airport is open and dry. Idaho Aero paved the north third or so of the runway last year. Be very carefull of afternoon flights into Stanley because of density altitude and the afternoon crosswinds are usually very strong. Courtesy shuttle is available when I'm there on 122.925 or 208.774.8343
Still under snow, keep checking back
