This is the dam on my family property which has never been breached by excavator or natural causes in its 63 year history, as asserted in the attack letter published in the Crozet Gazette. Within the last year, we have had to remediate issues that came from upstream, and did so at the onsite direction and advice of DEQ and the Army Corps of Engineers. We have documentation from the County that no permits are required for this work, but we filed them anyway. Despite this fact, and purely because of my candidacy, I am accused of damaging the downstream and lack of proper protocols. Interestingly, this author has shopped his story to at least three news agencies and none of them took the bait because we welcomed them to learn the truth about our property and the reality of what our family has done here over 40 years. If anyone is interested in learning more, they should call me. I talk with White Hall district residents everyday about issues across the district but I won’t stand for lies about the work my family has done on fence outs, stream buffers, and protecting the micro- and downstream environment of this farm.

On Thursday, Nov 2, I was proud to join members of the League of Women Voters, and the owners of Mudhouse and Bluebird & Company, to welcome the Voting Equality Bus to Crozet. The Equality Bus Tour is drawing attention to non-partisan, grassroots efforts in support of the Equal Rights Amendment, which has been ratified by 38 states and needs to be formally adopted into the US Constitution.

On Saturday 10/28, the Earlysville Exchange celebrated its 9th anniversary with a luncheon for volunteers. I was honored to present a new recognition of gratitude from the community. The Exchange receives and sells or donates more than 6,000 pieces of furniture, housewares, and clothing monthly, assisting families in transition to downsize or to re-equip a household after a fire or other crisis. The Exchange provides job training and experience, and provides a gathering place and a family atmosphere, to build community.
So far in 2023, the Exchange has returned more than $20,000 to the community and more than $210,000 over 9 years! The Exchange proves the Power of One: Benny Clark whose idea it was 11 years ago, and the Power of Many: everyone who contributes, volunteers, and receives. For many successful days and years ahead, we all thank you.

My opponent and his campaign are accusing me of bribery and corruption, including taking money and selling my vote. This is an accusation of serious criminal activity in which I would never participate. Free speech is one thing; unfounded accusations are another altogether. I find this type of malicious behavior to be detestable. If voters have concerns about any donation to my campaign, they should read the information already provided or call/email me and ask. Contact information is easily accessible on my campaign page.

What a special Meet Ann Here this afternoon in Crozet! A 92 year old Crozet resident met me at the Mudhouse this afternoon to share her experience signing up for the Real Estate Tax Relief (RETF) program. She had heard the radio and read the print reminders of the upcoming deadline. She handed in her completed documents this past Monday and received a confirmation Thursday that her RETR waiver was complete and approved at 100%. The deadline for NEW participants to submit application and documentation to join the program is October 31. Please call Albemarle Office of Finance and Budget to request forms, ask questions, or for assistance completing the application over the phone. Staff is eager to assist - 434-296-5852 Mon-Fri.

The other donor being demeaned by my opponent lives on land under conservation easement in the middle of “downtown” Crozet. This conservation property protects water quality in Lickinhole Creek and provides a vista that passersby get to enjoy for free. The presence of this open space is a huge amenity for residents from Crozet Avenue to Old Trail. I am proud to be supported by people who help the White Hall district be a great place to live.

21/10/2023

It is shameful of my opponent to demean a 40 year resident of Albemarle County *who to my knowledge has never had a residential project before the board of supervisors* in any negative way. I have known this person for more than 30 years, since his children were in elementary school with mine. He has used his time and resources to renovate abandoned factories in Albemarle into places where businesses, including aerospace design, medical research, and creating constructed wetlands, have found incubator work spaces. The actions of this donor here in Albemarle County directly create high paying jobs for residents. This person is also a long time supporter of our public safety agencies, enabling improved facilities for training, so our first responders are better able to save and protect us all.

21/10/2023

As I have stated previously, in public meetings and online, I am very proud to be supported in my re-election campaign by people committed to the success of the residents of Albemarle County. My opponent is calling out two donors to my campaign, and disparaging them as “developers.” Is it because one lives on land in conservation easement, and the other owns rehabilitated factory space? Neither has brought forth a rezoning or special permit for residential purposes in the last 16 years, if ever. Both are devoted to the County and its success, and the success of the residents living within it.

Many White Hall district addresses have a mailing address of "Charlottesville," even all the way out to White Hall Village. Making effort before seeking office to learn the characteristics of the district you propose to represent shows respect for residents and voters.

20/10/2023

Don't ask Brad Rykal what he plans to do if he wins the race for White Hall district supervisor, ask his campaign manager. His campaign manager has personally made more than 40% of the donations to the Rykal campaign. Who are you voting for and who will make the decisions?

20/10/2023

I am proud that my campaign has received 93 donations so far. 66 of those donations came from people who live in the White Hall district, 25 from people who live in another Albemarle district (most with long term ties to the WH district), and 2 from people who live in the City of Charlottesville. Contrary to assertions by my opponent, not a single one of the people who gave to my campaign builds developments in Crozet.

Thank you to the Senior Statesmen for hosting a great candidate forum and to the other candidates who joined me to participate in the event. Showing up and participating with other candidates in events that are open to the public is a bare minimum when seeking public office. It is very important that voters have chances to ask questions directly of candidates in order to assess their skills and positions. Bea LaPisto Kirtley for Supervisor T.J. I am proud to have led the approval process for the Northside Library move and expansion to its current location on Rio Road. Public libraries are such an important resource in our community. By the numbers for Northside Library, 2013-2023:

• 1,992,591 visitors (there were a few months in 2013 that the door counter was apparently broken; this number is likely more than 2 million!)

• 4,744,919 items checked out, an average of 431,356 annually

• 100,775 items currently in the Northside Library

• 31,452 community meetings held

• 4394 programs attended by 113,671 people

• 150,188 people signing in to use library computers

• 19,437 new cards created

Crozet Library by the numbers. Fantastic!!

30/09/2023

The book brigade has been used every time there was a change in location for the Crozet library. From the Women's Club to the Coop to the Depot and to Library Avenue in 2013. A contingent of Crozet elementary children walked to the square to participate in the passing of books, hand to hand, creating continuity of a love of reading for decades in Crozet.

Ann and Wendy Saz celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Crozet library. Wendy was the longtime chief librarian at the branch and led the path to success for innovative programs for visitors of all ages.

As people age, it is important that they are not priced out of their ability to stay in their homes. As the costs of local government rise, property tax burden can increase beyond what people on fixed income can manage. I supported the changes last year and I support additional changes this year to make this program work for a broader range of residents who need it. I appreciate the work of the White Hall district residents to organize and bring this issue forward. Please speak at a BOS meeting or email [email protected].

I met recently with VDOT engineers and Free Union depot staff to look for engineering solutions to this dangerous corner on Advance Mills Road north of the bridge. I am working on solutions to improve safety for all road users.

We were in Earlysville tonight for the third town hall of the spring season. In addition to talking about changing the eligibility for the real estate property tax waiver program, which is coming up for public hearing on Wed, Apr 19, at 6 pm, residents related many stories about the rapid influx of development, population, and crowding which has changed the quality of life in Albemarle in the last five years. They encouraged board of supervisors members to hold developers accountable to reduce and mitigate the impacts their projects create for the greater community and the environment. Deputy Chief Walls presented statistics about public safety in the Earlysville area. Attendees expressed great support for our Albemarle County police officers and department at all of our recent town hall meetings.

First spring 2023 town hall last night. Thank you to ACPD Major Terry Walls and Captain Kevin Miller who stopped by to update community members about recent statistics for criminal activity in the area and to answer questions.

Thank you also to the many Crozetians who brought their questions and concerns about recent development applications and the tax rate.

A poignant comment: “This is like pouring water into a bucket with holes in it. If we need more staff and more public safety members as our population grows, why are we continuing to build more densely and bring in even more people, who will then need even more staff and public safety members to provide services to them?”

Another resident asked, “Why can we not pause rezoning until we catch up on services?”

Is this a question of local authority or local decision? I will find out.

Remembering our Fallen on Memorial Day. After fourteen years I could not stay away. I miss seeing the many family members of our fallen soldiers. Military families serve our community in so many ways.

Over the years of ceremonies, we all have learned so much about our history, been inspired by speakers from near and far, shared remembrances and listened to music.

Be well and be safe,

Opinion/Editorial: Price, Mallek, LaPisto Kirtley endorsed for supervisor 01/11/2019

Thank you to The Daily Progress for the fabulous endorsement!

"In the hotly contested White Hall District, Ann Mallek deserves a return to the board. She has built a reputation for constituent service and detailed attention to residents’ concerns.

Additionally, the kind of deep background knowledge needed to govern a complex county such as Albemarle has to be taken into consideration. Ms. Mallek has spent years developing expertise in county government — expertise that should continue to benefit residents.

She also has shown that she is willing to change her mind about issues when necessary.

The Daily Progress recommends Donna Price, Bea LaPisto Kirtley and Ann Mallek for Board of Supervisors."
