It’s March 1st and in honor of this day, HPD would like to shed some light on Self-Injury Awareness Day. This is also known as self-harm or self-mutilation which is the act of deliberately harming oneself as a way to cope by cutting, burning, scratching, and/or hitting. If you or anyone you know engages in self-injury, we encourage you to seek help and support to find healthier ways to cope with your emotional pain, distress, and trauma.

Rosa Parks was known as the “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement” because she was one of the most important citizens of the 20th century. Parks helped initiate the civil rights movement when she refused to give up her seat to a white man in 1955 on the Montgomery, Alabama bus. ✨

She is best known for her work and influence on racial justice, criminal justice reform, and women’s rights. She is a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz working in the History of Consciousness Department and a former director of the university’s Feminist Studies Department. She was also an active member of the Communist Party and Black Panther Party. She is most famous for her involvement with the Soledad brothers, who were accused of killing a prison guard. ✨

Jazz Thornton was born in New Zealand, on March 29, 1995. Her first attempt was when was she just 12 years after suffering from years of s*xual abuse. Thornton's primary focus is to advocate for those with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts all around the world. She is co-founder of Voices of Hope, which provides help and hope to those struggling with mental illness. Close to 800,000 people die from su***de every year. Remember if you or anyone you know of is suffering from suicidal thoughts, please reach out for help. YOU ARE IMPORTANT AND LOVED.🤍
