Celadonite inclusions in apophyllite are known for creating visually striking green-colored specimens.
Celadonite is a phyllosilicate mineral in the mica group, typically green due to the presence of iron. When it is included in apophyllite, a hydrous potassium calcium silicate mineral, it results in green-tinted crystals or distinct green patterns inside the typically transparent or white apophyllite.
These inclusions usually form during the mineral’s growth, often in volcanic environments like basalt or vesicular lava flows, where apophyllite crystallizes in cavities (vugs) alongside other secondary minerals. The green hue provided by celadonite inclusions can range from pale green to more vivid emerald shades, making specimens highly sought after by collectors.
Celadonite in apophyllite is most commonly found in locations like the Deccan Traps in India, where both minerals occur in abundance. This combination creates specimens with a unique and beautiful aesthetic appeal, often used as display pieces in mineral collections. The celadonite inclusions can appear as fibrous, flaky, or cloud-like structures within the apophyllite, enhancing the crystal’s overall beauty and rarity.
