Do hard things. They make you better. 💪🏼
Yes you can 👊
Sometimes your feelings don’t matter 👇
When it comes to fitness, I find that to be true most of the time.
“Unmotivated” and “Excuse” are best friends.
They trick you into comfort.
And comfort, if taken to extreme and never challenged, will rob you of joy.
So get after it.

I help dads and men run marathons and change their lives.
Growing up, I played lots of sports 👇
Lacrosse, ultimate frisbee but mostly basketball.
But in the fall of 2017 I got 3 concussions while playin basketball...
Which sent me into a deep depression ☹️
For 18 months I thought I should be able to bounce back easy.
But I couldn’t.
And it took miracles from God, immense support from my family, and some therapy to fully recover 🙏
And that is when I discovered distance sports.
I found triathlon and joined the college club team.
I found healing, relief, friendship and immense satisfaction from pushing myself farther than I ever have before.
Since then I solely focus on running long distance🏃🏽♂️
I’ve completed multiple half marathons, 3 full marathons and a 58 mile ultramarathon.
After having a daughter, and with one on the way
I found it hard to train for races and still find time to provide for and spend time with my family.
But then over time I developed strategies and tools that help me train and still be an awesome dad and husband.
And I want to help other men do the same.
So I got certified as a running coach and started Hype Endurance.
My mission is to inspire and educate busy dads, husbands to run marathons while becoming better men 🏆
If you want that, then I invite you to follow .hypeendurance and start crushing your dreams.

Watch for these mistakes… 👀
1. Comparing yourself to others without purpose
2. Not believing that you can
3. Not signing up for a race
Correct these things and watch what happens.

Husbands and Dads ⬇️
I trained for and ran a marathon in less than 5 months while still being an awesome husband and dad by using this 5 step process…
(copy it to do the same)
1. Identify and commit to a goal, being as specific as possible.
Example:
You sign up for the PHX Mesa Marathon and want to run it in under 4 hrs.
2. Define a start and end date to your marathon training block.
Note: Start and end dates makes you more accountable and more likely to train.
Training will only last for a temporary season of life.
3. Build a full-fledged training plan. A good marathon training plan includes:
- Speed workouts
- Long Runs
- Recovery Runs
- Strength Training
- Rest Days
- Recovery Weeks
A good training plan is sustainable (no burn out and it fits into your lifestyle)
4. Learn how to eat and hydrate before, during and after your runs.
Nutrition is a crucial element of endurance training.
It is hard to succeed without proper fueling.
5. Communicate your plans and goals with your spouse.
As a dad and husband, you have responsibilities:
- Kids
- Your home
- Your work
- Your spouse
Work WITH your spouse to help you win at home and in training.
I used this SIMPLE strategy for 5 months to run a 60 mile ultramarathon.
And became a better husband and dad in the process.

Hey Dads! I have a question for you. As I was thinking about the challenges I have faced as a dad and a runner over the past few years, a few common themes came up for me. I’m curious what issues other runner dads have come up against when wanting to train for a big event (marathon, half marathon).
Respond in the comments with any challenge that has been hard for you to overcome.
Things like:
Finding enough time to train w/ dad responsibilities
Not feeling guilty being gone for longer periods of time running
How to overcome the fear of signing up for a race
Lack of confidence in self to even train
The ins and outs of running (nutrition, training plan, form, strength training)
A huge thanks in advance!
🎉 It’s official. Just signed up for my first ultramarathon.

Emma Cowley is a fabulous person and athlete 🙌🏼
She was always asking questions and wanting to learn how to run better and run farther. She knew how to listen to her body and when to push and when to hold back.

I used to think running ruined peoples' knees.
Until I learned these 3 things:
1. The compression that occurs in your knees as you run brings more fluid to the joints to keep them lubricated.
2. Your body responds to stress on the knee and the muscles that support the knee with increased musculoskeletal adaptations (gains).
3. Running with proper form, and individualized intensity, and volume allows the perfect conditions for your body to strengthen the knee and avoid injury.
Knee injuries associated with running come most often from too much volume and too high of intensity without enough rest.
Because running is a low resistance, high impact exercise, it is extremely easy to overdo it, until you realize something hurts.
