I've recently finished 'Untamed' by Glennon Doyle, a book that was recommended to me many times but it took a while to enter my life. I loved many parts of this book, but this quote really stuck out to me.
We live in a society that prizes happiness as the ultimate reward. We strive for a 'perfect' life that has been engineered by our conditioning. We steer clear of anything that doesn't feel like happiness. The thing is when life inevitably gets hard we get a sense that something is inherently wrong.
▫️But what if feelings are there to be felt?
▫️What if you aren't meant to be happy all the time?
▫️What if being frustrated, lonely, heartbroken, impatient, angry, is part of life and not a sign of deficiency or a flaw in who you are?
▫️What if feeling these feelings will not kill us but shape us into more interesting multi dimensional human beings?
Being with what hurts takes courage, but it also builds our character. It breaks us open into more authentic, raw versions of ourselves.
Be still and feel whatever needs to be felt. As Glennon says: life is hard but we can do hard things.
